Scarlet is better at playing Katie Britt then Katie Britt is at living as Katie Britt

Eh, SNL has sort of outlived its purpose, when reality is stranger than fiction these days.

A female GOP senator creating a misleading narrative about a rape & trafficking victim to promote to people the idea of voting for a guy who owes someone hundreds of millions of dollars for sexual assault is peak 2020s GOP
You left out the part where the policies she supports would have ensured the victim would have been turned away at the border. Beyond that, she voted against a bill (that would have offered victims like that woman avenues of assylum) that she was part of crafting on behalf of said sexual assaulter.

Someone's going to have to explain to me the GOP policies that are causing this.

I wonder if Fox news viewership is similarly changing.
Some of it is less policies and more politics. Republicans have been making a serious effort at organizing and spending heavily on targetting some of this vote. This article goes into it.

I think that particular thread notes some reasons. For example, minorities having views which are more conservative than people would assume, and older demographic which heavily voted Dems is dying out.

I won't be able to explain it but I would like to point out that "non-white" is an incredibly huge and diverse demographic (so much so that I'd argue it doesn't make sense in any other context than the "white" vote). Floridians of latin heritage will probably have very different motivations to Asian-Americans in California and so on.

Its in the thread isn't it? Basically they've always actually held conservative views which would see them align more with the Repubs on many key issues. But there's been societal pressure within their communities to continue voting for the democrats regardless of this, which may now be unravelling.

If this means the overt and massive racism of the GOP then yes "Societal pressure" is why there is such a clear line of support the GOP cannot get from black voters. Until they change their policy positions. I mean of course they can get a Candace Owens, or a Tim Scott or what have you. But you cannot hide the clear racism baked into the party base. Especially the MAGA base.

They literally tried to get thousands of black and brown people's votes tossed out on January 6th. And didn't care who they ran over and lied about with conspiracy theories in those states, and districts that are HEAVILY minority.

Now it is true. If the GOP actually tried and wanted to realistically reach out and abandon the racism and gerrymandering they have been operating on a national scale for years to curb minority voting power. There are some positions they could attract minority support for naturally, religious issues etc. But their overt racism is what keeps only a small minority from ever even considering GOP votes.

There is a decent portion of “non-whites” who are staunchly religious and very much into the whole anti- LGBT schtick.
It’s mostly the culture war stuff which I presume.

This is outrageous. I mean, what's next, a hearing with vaccine expert Andrew Wakefield on the efficacy of MRNA vaccines? I am so sick of how we let liars and crooks like MJT get so much power to utilize the halls of Congress for shit like this.
There has to be a tipping point when Congress should enforce rules in order to prevent this kind of shit. She is basically wasting time and taxpayer money.

There a few yahoos at the House of Commons in Ottawa, but I'm glad that our rules remain pretty solid to prevent our MPs from needlessly wasting taxpayer money on things like what Greene is doing.

Must see TV...

How many times has she done shit like this now? It's like this is her whole job. She apparently does nothing else but sit on panels throwing baseless accusations and spreading conspiracy theories. Seriously, how many times? And how much longer is this waste of time and taxpayers money going to be allowed to continue?

Pornhub suspends site in Texas due to state’s age-verification law

In the latest installment of the dispute between adult content websites and Texas lawmakers, Pornhub suspended service to Texans on Thursday arguing a state law infringes on adults’ rights to access protected speech.

Pornhub, one of the most visited websites in the world, sued Attorney General Ken Paxton last year to block enforcement of a 2023 state law that requires websites that host pornography to institute age-verification measures and display health warnings on its pages.

Pornhub disabled its website in Texas after the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the age-verification requirement in a ruling last week that cited a 1968 U.S. Supreme Court decision preventing the sale of obscene materials to minors. But the question of regulating minors’ access to online material has already been well established, legal experts say, and it stands in sharp contrast to the most recent decision from the 5th Circuit.
This is actually interesting. How far can these far right zealots push before they start getting voted out even in red parts of Texas. Porn is a multi billion dollar industry. Even these "religious freaks" watch it even if in secret. Now with this in effect not only Pornhub but any porn site now you have to at least have an account, or some type of login. Almost any of it is blocked now without that.

So all these far right, supposedly holy people have to go through more hoops create accounts and have traceable emails wives, or husbands might see etc.

Not to mention the arguments that this is unconstitutional

Nearly three decades after Stevens’ opinion, Texas lawmakers tried to impose age-verification measures online.

“We did all this. Everything that's been discussed here has already been discussed and resolved,” Eric Goldman, a professor at the Santa Clara University School of Law who specializes in internet law, told The Texas Tribune.

Goldman said the Supreme Court has already ruled on the regulation of online obscene materials in light of the Ginsberg case. He said the nation’s highest court determined that the internet is different from the offline world, and the two cannot be treated the same way.

He maintained Texas’ age-verification requirement is categorically unconstitutional because it forces all users to complete a mechanical process before accessing protected material, which can slow people down and act as a barrier to content. Goldman added it drags down the earning potential of publishers and adds costs to users who create content.
Texas is hoping that this new far right Supreme Court will just over rule the previous Supreme Court decisions with not even a new argument. Just change the ruling because there are more conservative judges.

If something can flip texas blue (and any state), is the lack of porn access

What’s the view here about Speaker Johnson? He hasn’t been bad, I guess. He actually is trying to work with Democrats.
