Film Venom | Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy is the new Nicholas Cage - bad actor who in the right movie can be brilliant.

What? Hes a brilliant actor. Cage aint so bad himself and, as Rooney says, it just that his resumè is bloated with a lot of rubbish films. Cant think of a bad Hardy performance - great in Inception, DKR, Dunkirk, Peaky Blinders etc.

Both Hardy and Cage are great actors. Cage has just said yes to so much garbage.
Agree that it seems he can never say no(Didn't he have money trouble not that long ago)but he is still garage in those garage films. He's performances are at times so shite that it makes people think he's actually doing all this bad acting ironically thus meaning he's really a good actor - The Wicker Man

Do you want hear a story about concrete ?

Like Cage I feel like Hardy has now got his shtick.

The Warrior - Muted muscle man

Mad Max - I'm sure he played the character as asked but it's still muted muscle man(Covered in dust)

Lawless - He's got a tooth pick in this one so there's that

This Means War - From the quick youtube clips he's shite in it.

Legend - The less the better I guess.

Dunkirk - I'm not watching a Nolan film until he fecks off Zimmer it's not fair on my ears.

The Revenant - Beard.

Venom - Muted muscle man with added super powers.

His filmography is turing into the movies I thought were brilliant when I was teenager. When was the last time Hardy did something interesting or did a film where he did murder million people ? It's the concrete film isn't it, that was he's last interesting film.

But as I said before like Cage when cast right he can be great - DKR(Which is genuinely a awful film), Bronson, Stuart A life Backwards.

Kind of feels he can't win here.

All he has to do is something a bit interesting and that it doesn't involve murdering(Not to much to ask is it ?). I still can't tell if the Locke was a good or bad film but I know I was glad it wasn't a super hero movie.

Take that back!

Your opinion is your opinion, to be honest. Personally think he was really good in Mad Max and Legend. Haven't seen Lawless, TMW and The Revenant so I can't share my opinions on those.

He's also great in Peaky Blinders and I enjoyed him in The Drop though I do understand the wider point about him having seemingly settled into taking a certain type of role - lots of intensity, intimidating body language and violence required. I thoroughly enjoy watching him do it though so I won't complain.

Not surprised really. Was hoping for a better movie considering the cast.

For me Cage is a better actor than Hardy. He’s able to carry a film whereas Hardy to my knowledge is unable to do so. Hated Mad Max, Legend was okay I guess but if this film is a huge flop then I think he should stick to support roles.

Not having it, it’s like none of you have ever watched Bronson. He is incredible in that role which again yes, muscle bound nutcase, but the butter scene alone is amazing.

Going to see Venom tomorrow but going by some of the early reviews it doesn’t sound all that promising.

Haven't watched Bronson... what is it about?

Hardy plays Charles Bronson ''Britain most violent prisoner''. Hardy is completely brilliant in the film(And so is Super Hands)and it's possible Nicolas Winding Refn best work. Also the soundtrack is

Charles Bronson is the most notorious prisoner in Britain, he is the self titled most violent prisoner in Britain and is serving a life sentence, he’s an artist. I’m sure his work has been portrayed in gallery’s, written books, fitness books, generally a nutcase, I’m sure at one point he had a column in a paper or magazine.

The film is a biographic and it’s amazing, well worth a watch and probably Hardy’s best performance in anything.

Some of the reviewers have suggested it's so much of a mess that it's fun, others are saying it's just a godawful mess. I'd love to pretend I'm shocked that this film turned out to be shit but I'm really not.

Tell us how you really feel

First half of the movie is utter shite. Nothing really happens, its unimaginative, the girlfriend is dick and it tries to be this dark brooding serious film. Second half you actually get the eddie/venom relationship people are praising which is funny and somewhat interesting. Eddie also becomes a different character in the second half, which is for the better, but its weird that he suddenly changes.

Its like they tried to make a serious and meaningful film but realised they have no ideas so reverted to the typical popcorn fluff, which is nothing new but at least its a bit of fun.

Just got back from seeing it, it’s rubbish, mostly down to the atrocious writing and dialogue, there are bits in it where I’m not quite sure if they were supposed to be funny but they were but the change from resisting to accepting each other is really quick and stupid.
Hardy is actually pretty good in it, and the relationship between Venom and Eddie is kinda fun.
Michelle Williams is wasted in this film, she does very little, her talents are wasted, she is somewhat of a nothing presence within the film. But if the sequel gets made which I think it is then I imagine she’ll have a bigger part going forward.

The teaser at the end tho, ooooft, my favourite villain outside The Joker and Doomsday.

First experience of 4DX, yeah never again, annoying as feck, trying to watch the film and you’re almost getting launched out of your seat.

Yeah, I had to try that with Dunkirk and it was fecking awful. Last time I've trusted one of my friends to book tickets for anything!

Just got back from seeing this. Went in with low expectations, but it was better than I thought it would be. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it.

For the carnage movie. I didn’t know there was one in the works, so to see that at the end was great for me. Carnage is one of my favorite villains overall, and I’ve wanted a carnage movie forever

Going to see it tonight. Honestly couldn't be less hyped if I tried. I'm very susceptible to review scores and this one is getting panned badly.

Only reason I'm still going is that the local IMAX theater makes you pay a deposit when getting a ticket.

Yeah that for me might be the best thing about the movie, I know they intend to build a Universe around this and at some point I’d imagine
spiderman will be involved, just hope with Carnage they maybe up the certificate to an 18 and hope they do it justice.

Will give it a watch sounds good.

I agree, it does need to be properly violent to capture Carnage’s personality properly. You would hope that at some point Spidey would be involved, but to be honest I’ve always been such a huge fan of venom that I wouldn’t complain about a universe being built around him :D

Yeah same although Topher Grace almost killed it for me completely in those Raimi Spider-Man’s. Will be intresting as I’m sure they idea I read is that it will be like this new DC Dark universe. Much darker and more adult themed.
Woody being cast as Carnage could be good as well, loved his little bit about the serial killer stick.

I've got absolutely no faith in their ability to construct a shared universe and to do any of the characters justice

I was hoping this would be good because of Riz. Hardy has been a sell out for quite a while now.

Feck me  there's a bloke near me that drives on his motorbike with a massive proper Predator helmet on and he's clearly put far more effort into that than they have promoting the film there.

EDIT: Desperately trying to find the photo I've got of the bloke next to me at traffic lights.

Guy Ritchie needs to make a Handsome Bob spinoff.
