Also important to remember this trophy is actually very important for us in our current situation.

1. We haven't won a trophy in years.
2. It puts us in the super cup which is an opportunity to win another trophy and really get over our hump
3. It puts us in pot 1 of the CL which means with any luck no group of death.
4. Be easier to get Pogba to stay and players to join if the club has the ambition to try to push to the next level this summer.

Also important to remember the last 200 fixtures we faced vs Villareal finished 0-0. Not mentioned yet, surprised.

Lets hope for a repeat of all those thrillers from around 2005. :nervous:

If we turn up and don’t choke we should easily have the firepower the give them a pasting. Be really interesting to see which United turn up though
The choking was a semi final thing. I can’t see it happening now. We have a real winner in Cavani as well

Emery has won more Europa Leagues than he can remember, and we always draw 0-0 with Villareal. So, I guess they'll win in penalties after a 0-0 match.

It's a one off match and anything can happen. I think Emery will seek to contain us but defending deep which we struggle to break down, he'll then look to score a goal on the counter and defend a 1-0 lead.

In these types of games we need to be at it from minute 0, don't give them a moment's peace, make them worried, nervous, hassle them.

100%. If its been two-legged I would be so confident, but anything can happen here.

Genuinely fell asleep during some of those matches

-McFred-

-Rashford Bruno Pogba-

- Cavani-

This would be my front 6.

Emery's Villareal conceded 62 shots in the last 5 games, averaging 12 shots per game. We need to be Clinical and recently we have kind of.

Hopefully we can do the job, and none of this slow start and second half comebacks!

PS, check out Devilswhistle.co.uk.

The team picks itself really. These are our in form/fittest players right now.

-McFred-

-Greenwood Bruno Pogba-

-Cavani-

Honestly, keeping Bruno, Cavani and Pogba fit is the biggest challenge. If all three are fresh for the game then personally I don't even think it will be close.

If United is really interested in Pau Torres, we'll get a first hand look at whether or not he's got the goods to play alongside Maguire.

Ole is going to have a really tough selection here, assuming everyone is fit.

How can you leave out Cavani given the form he's in right now? Does he leave out Pogba? Does he leave out Greenwood?

Issue here is that if Ole selects Pogba and plays him on the left it shifts Rashford to the right and we all know he struggles when playing down the right hand side.

i think Ole will stick with the McFred combination as he's done in almost every big match we've had since Project restart and the back four has already selected itself.

If we play like we occasionally do i can see them grinding out a 1 nil or a shootout. Equally if we play like we occasionally do we could score 3 or more

Ole’s first Villarreal test
 Best response, and one of the first.

Yeah, several have put Rashford on the left, but this is the more creative front four. If we knew they were going to hold a high line and give us room to break, then Greenwood on the right and Rashford on the left, IMO, would tear them up, but Emery should know we have trouble breaking down a crowded box.

We just have to pound it in for the first 30 minutes and score a couple of times. :wenger:

This. Have to be very cautious i feel. We should win on paper, but its a final so the stats go out the window.

Greenwood will get left out, be a good sub to bring on, I agree Mcfred will start, Pogba on the left, the rest picks itself

Can we even celebrate this trophy if City win the CL? This trophy simply need to be springboard to bigger things next year. We can’t be battling top 4, getting knocked out of domestic semi’s and playing secondary European competitions next year. We need to capitalise on the mess Madrid,Barca and Juve are in and establish ourselves as an elite side.
Why would we not?

I think it says a lot about how poor European club football is at the moment, It may not be the champions league....but we may well win a European trophy without even playing a good side. Granada were poor and the two Italian sides were average at best. Not seen much of them, but Villareal dont look that great to me either, well organised by the manager but no real stand out players from what I have seen, some good experienced ones and a couple of decent youngsters, but certainly nobody to be weary of from what I have seen.

Milan were alright I thought, gave us a tough tie.

Maybe we’re just actually a good side?

I dont know. I think we have played really well in 30min spells in each tie and actually been pretty poor the rest and that has been enough each time. I think Milan have some good players, a lot of them were missing and they were never really that threatening, thought the midfield two played quite well, but little outside of that, neat and tidy and little more at either end over the two legs.

I think there have been better sides each year including the year we won it.....most importantly, I think we are a better side too of course yes, we are a good side if we can perform consistently, the results have been excellent over the second half of the season, the performances sporadic in my opinion anyway. Comign from behind is encouraging, but lets be honest, the Milan game was typical in that the first half we were absolutely awful, but that is forgotten

Well I don't think so.

Ajax 2017 finished 2nd in their domestic league compared to this season strolled to a league title and in the Europa league they knocked out the current French league leader Lille and then Roma knocked them out.

Celta Vigo 2017 finished 13th in La Liga and it took John Guidetti to miss a sitter with the final kick of the game for United to win that semi final tie. Both Sociedad, Granada this season are better than what Vigo was then. United also needed extra time to overcome Anderlecht in 2017 a side that wasn't as strong as the AC Milan side faced a few weeks ago.

So many overconfident people here. We are slight favourites, sure, but we shouldn’t be acting like this is in the bag

They have a decent defensive setup and don’t concede too many. If things go well for them on the day and they can nick a goal, you never know. It’ll be especially difficult if we give away the first goal, as we have a habit of doing. They’re not the most attacking side but are pretty efficient with their expected goals lining up closely to actual goals.

I totally agree, and immediately after the games on Thursday I posted that we must not have a sloppy start, let alone concede a goal. But we are a far better team, and if we don't repeat the upper-mentioned mistakes, we can't lose.

United will win this for sure, have confidence guys we can whoop these spaniards 3-1 deffo.
Cavani and Pogba to score get your money on it now!

2nd and EL won't be a bad season at all. We have to seal this.

4-1 down at home against Celta after 58 minutes.
Lot of changes in that side playing today. May be saving players for the final. They're not getting top 4 this season and relatively safe in Europa League spots so they're probably going all out for the final.
