The new, new kid on the block apparently. 16 - year old player at Flamengo being touted by RM as the new Neymar. Today's Marca has a video of some of his goals.

Anyone know anything about him ?

Seen plenty of talk about us and Barca interested, how much of that is actual truth though I don't know.

I never know when to believe the hype on players like this, so many fail to live up to the expectations.

I will be watching closely though to see if he is as good as they say.

Sometimes the hype takes over but he can dance as well as Lingard ! What happened with RM's old new kid - Odergard (?) ?

What's with Brazilians and labelling everyone the new Neymar? Neymar was clearly a phenomenon which was evident with the fact that he was taking the piss out of that Brazilian League.

Besides, his play style isn't even similar to Neymar's in Santos. This kid reminds me of Ousmane Dembele a little, that being said the quality of defenders he's playing against is a shambles, will have to see how he develops.

He was the best player in the u17 South American Championships and the best in the u15s a couple of years ago. Vitor Eduardo and Vitinho both look good players from that Brazil u17 team as well

Every prospect in South America is the new whoever.

I think it's fair to say that Brazil has contributed many of the greatest individual footballers the world has known. So it's natural to anticipate the talent of the newer generations.

The "quality of defenders" argument is such a fallacy, always used to dismiss players outside the few elite leagues, so we can wait until they prove themselves in a bigger league and then cost 50x as much. Granted not every highly-touted youngster makes it, but only limiting our younger signings to players from a handful of top European leagues is short-sighted plus the success rate is comparable.

he just scored 2 goals against colombia today
but I always am skeptical of great 16 year olds.. sometimes its about earlier physical development etc

The Brazillian Wele :wenger:

Joking aside. I know nothing about this one.

You should not judge a player based in some youtube video.
If Vinicius doesn't break a leg he will probably be far better than everything you have in europe.
I'm not a kid and i saw Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Edmundo, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Adriano, etc, since the youth teams, and i can recognize a legit Brazilian talent by historical standards.

Vinicius Junior was top scorer and chosen best player of the South American U-17 last night.
Brazil won the tournament beating the local Chile 5-0.

Funny fact: Brazil won 12 of 16 South American U-17.
Only time we couldn't be in the top 4 and qualify to the WC U-17, Ronaldo Nazario was our 9.

Fair to say we'll never get our hands on him? (United)

^^ So they're getting Mbappe and this kid in the same window?

Really looks like they're making a shift to wunderkinds with signings like these 2. Makes it even harder for other clubs to compete as they'll have their pick of established talent as well as youth.

Looks like their plan yes, it's incredibly smart. Real will dominate world football for a long time if they go down this route. In every age group they have the best of the best.

Apparently Real Madrid has bid 45 million euro's for him. On his way to Madrid, year salary of 8 million. Says Globo Esporte and AS reported similar.

Those are ridiculous numbers for a 16-year old and also one who's unproven at European-level.

45m for a 16 year old who's only ever played in Brazil, and people say we spent crazy money...

We would have had him if it wasn't for that bastard Fred Luz.

"The talks didn't get far, because Fred Luz told them plainly that future discussions would depend on the immediate payment of a sum that would give them priority among offers of equal value. At that point, the Englishman, who thought it was going to be a piece of cake, left and didn't return."

Asensio - Mbappe - Vinicius front 3 :smirk:

Looks distinctly average based on that video and nothing close to Neymar level talent.

It actually looks like a constructed plan from them for once rather than their usual FM approach to the market. Fortifying whilst on top, across each level is the best possible method and something they've overlooked for years.

Seems Zidane has some genuine sway at that place because Perez is actually doing what he wants.

It really remains to be seen if it's absurd money. If he is a generational talent, the fee will be a snip. Furthermore, RM will have saved themselves 10's of millions in both wages and a transfer fee further down the line. Imagine if this kid is brilliant and remains there until he is in his 30's. That's a decade and a half of service and he'll pay back his transfer multiple times over.
