Was Sanchez our worst ever transfer?

I might have terrible memory but wasn't Sanchez deployed up front rotating with Giroud at Arsenal?

He might have stood a chance if we played him there or as a support striker.

Arsenal was set up to support Sanchez (and Ozil), in tactics, in setup, on players composition. We didn't. We expect Sanchez to plug and play. Someone made a big mistake in evaluation of players adaptability to our tactics . Veron, Mahit, Kagawa were similar error, but they weren't not as expensive, didn't caused so much problem in dressing room, or could be offload with relatively little cost.

I expected him to score 20-25 goals per season, with many strong performances. Turn out he only manage 3-4 goals per season in average, despite being our highest paid player in the squad.

Even after he's gone he's still talking shit. What a waste of space. So glad to be rid of him

The absolute cheek of this clown  :wenger:

Didn't think we could have another expensive transfer go down in flames as much as Di Maria but here we are. They both stole a lot of money during their time here

Wow was that taken out of context? Because if it is not then that is very unprofessional and explains a lot on why he failed here. His attitude is 100% the sole reason for this. You cannot have a mindset like that and expect to be winning and successful.

He doesn't actually say what happened in the training session to make him want to leave?

Fact is, he was shite. Got dropped because he was shite and the media criticised him for being shite. That's football mate. If you're earning a lot of money and you don't perform people will call you out.

So the idiot wanted out on the first day, but still collected his ridiculous wages for years and stank the place. Shows how much he cared about playing football in his prime years. ADM at least picked up a fight and left.

I think the worst thing is his whole exit speech is really a WOE IS ME spiel.

It’s Lukaku all over again

The full transcript here in the below tweet. It's not anywhere near as bad and just shows what a toxic cnut Mourinho was.

It's always nice to be reminded that footballers are real people, with the same wants, needs, dreams and thoughts as the rest of us.

Not from the Sanchez interview but sheds light on the shit show under Mourinho and the current situation under Ole.

Sounds like he’s blaming everyone else except himself. His very first sentence was ‘I thought I had a contract with City’. That tells you all you need to know. He never wanted to be here but took the stupid money we offered. Hopefully the penny has finally dropped with the club that you sign players that want to be here, not simply offer them the best contract, otherwise you get situations like Sanchez.

He said he was liked to play for man Utd and he wanted to win.

He didn't and doesn't need to say that. He wishes it had worked out

wait, so you're telling me that utdreport tweet was out of context? I, for one, am absolutely shocked. Shocked!

Interesting comments from him. No issue with what he said. It confirms what many of us have been saying, that Mourinho's United was a toxic place where nobody enjoyed playing, and that translated onto the pitch.

Under Mourinho and especially VG we went through signing a real bad bunch of players who wasn't suited here/good enough/just after a big payday. You can have a toss up with ADM and Sanchez, but due to the sheer cost and how long he was here, Sanchez wins it easily for me. Thank goodness we have a manager who is doing due diligence in bringing in players and is working great for the club.

No wonder Lukaku and Sanchez clicked. Both wanted out the moment they seemed to sign on.

This..

I have no issue with what he said either. Mourinho had several journos fighting his corner too which brainwashed a large section of the fan base.

He is but reading the full comments just adds further background to what a mess the squad was in.

I can imagine that the Martial faction of the dressing room were not very welcoming because he dislodged him from the team when he was gaining momentum. However being so overpaid would be pissing everyone off.

Of course he was disliked. Thankfully it sounds like we're being more sensible with wages going forward.

very much this.

reckon his attitude didn’t go down too well with the squad, plus the money was on. They might’ve expected a bit more from him than they got and when it wasn’t forthcoming, they made it known he had a bit of work to do. I wonder how much the players supported him on the pitch, tbh. Not that he was necessarily entitled to it. Having said that, if players act like bitches, they should all be fecked off. Purely speculative reading between the lines, of course.

Modern football eh?

He brought that Arsenal mentality with him and got chewed up expeditiously, they don't build Gunner greats like they used to...

I'm sad about people mentioning Veron. He was a marquee signing in a different time in United's history. Getting a world class player from Serie A at that time was a major statement.

Veron's problem is that he was before his time at United. It's completely Fergie and the team's fault rather than Veron. United were still haunted by the success of the 4-4-2 (greatest midfield in history™) and how Madrid dismantled it in 2000.

Veron in a 3 man midfield would have been pure poetry. Alas Seba was the right player at the wrong time.

I agree.

Imagine a 26 year old Veron joining United in 2008 with Rooney, Ronaldo & Tevez. And heading that midfield 3 with Carrick and (an older more defensive) Scholes.

I'd love to have a crystal ball and know what would have happened. But I'm sure he would have been a roaring success. United had adopted a more 'European' style, had Quieroz & generally was more suited to his style.

So he never actually said he wanted to leave after his first day?

Journalism is so frustrating. You can see how people can end up hating players unfairly. People get misquoted so much and taken out of context - if the above post is correct he never even said that.

I wasn't a fan of Sanchez's time at United at all, but for Sky and the rest to twist it for no reason? very weird.

For me it's a toss-up between Sanchez and Falcao. Both utterly useless.
To be fair on Falcao he was good after he left us, he was no where near ready for first team football in the PL after that knee injury. He should have gone somewhere else for a season and I think he would have been decent for us. He certainly tried his upmost anyway

No he did, he said he wanted to leave after his first session but then he goes on to explain it was because of the negative atmosphere

I listened to a podcast a while ago with an ex pro basically saying Keane ended Veron’s United career. Veron was too scared to stand up to him and fight for a spot in the team which ultimately cost him.

I see, it's all a bit confusing i'd like to see a full transcript - other way it's not surprising. I'm glad we've stopped signing "stars" for their name only.

Throwing huge amounts of cash at people who don't want to play for us like Di Maria, Sanchez and Falcao will never work.

Nothing much to see here. The guy has a massive ego and can't accept that he's past it, so here come the excuses as to why he was such a humiliating failure here. There maybe is an element of truth about the club having a toxic atmosphere at that time, but still.
