Was this our best Post-Ferguson victory?

We've had some good victories post Ferguson, this one is the best imo because it's a FA Cup final win against your rivals with 2 youth players scoring the goals, and we were the underdogs. Also we beat Liverpool in a classic to get here

Yes. Beating those cheats and stopping the double double is close to when we ruined Flopps send off earlier this season.

A rotten season when everything went wrong from an injury view point, we still win the FA cup and are in crappy Europa League is not a bad end.

Give ETH some time and let's build something proper

For me coming back from 2-0 down at the Etihad to win 3-2 when they had all the fireworks and confetti setup ready to celebrate winning the title against us was better than this one.

We had 25% possession and played without a striker in the hope we could outnumber in midfield. We basically conceded that before we started.

Was this ETH's most astute tactical performance, yes and was it the best execution of a game plan for a long time, yes. But anyone calling this our best post-fergie performance has accepted we're a mid table team that can start calling ourselves game raising cnuts Ala the Everton's and Wolves' of this world.

I'm delighted with the result, brilliant to win the FA Cup again and get into Europe (knocking the Toon out in the process and bring Pepe down a peg sweetens it) that will help us attract players for next season but jeez lets not overdo it.

Think the OP is talking about the result, not the performance.

I would say 100% yes.
Beat the champions.
Stopped the double.
Everything surrounding the club before the game.
No one giving us a chance.
Both goals by teenage academy players.
Knocking Chelsea down to conference league.
Ensuring Newcastle miss out on Europe.
Almost perfect!

Beating Liverpool and city to win it is significant. Teams have had an easier route to the Champions League Final before

For me - yes.

In many ways because this win followed our historical win against Liverpool (truly a game for the ages) and it solidified that overall run in my memory. I'll always remember our win against Barcelona in 1984, for example, but the fact that we got eliminated from the tournament in the next round does damage that game's legacy a little bit.

And beating the all-mighty City (who are still probably the best team on the planet, even though Madrid showed that they are beatable) when our team is in arguably our worst form during the post-Fergie era (and we've seen some shit during those times!)... in a pretty convincing fashion as well — it feels special.

Honestly, the thread title makes me somewhat uncomfortable... Reminds me of the RAWK thread when it was still fun to read the posts there...

Just self awareness of where we are as a team, beating a state run local rival who apparently invented football without being lucky or shit housing a win. Cap it off with the winning goal being an absolute peach and both scorers being academy lads…hard not to be positive today surely?

Also, we knocked Chelsea into conference league, Newcastle out of Europe and ended up on a better season than Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle and stopped city breaking another record to boot!

Had a similar conversation with my dad at HT today. I remembered beating Barca recently, that's up there...

Agreed. I am positive as well. Just think, going to far ahead of ourselves might give away a feel of smalltime-ness. But I guess the majority out there is against City as well so we should be fine in total.

Europa League win under Mou was bigger win but much less appreciated because it was more expected. Also this was against MUCH stronger opponent

This is the highest we have punched above our weight. Winning against City, after being shit all season was SENSATIONAL

2017 edges it for me.

European Cup>Domestic Cup.

Plus the UEFA Cup was the only trophy the club had never won.

Made us only only the 4th? club to win all 4 UEFA competitions and only the 2nd club with Bayern to win 10 different competitions.

Well it’s either this or the Europa, let’s be honest. It’s not the greatest pickings around.

Surely the EL is the more prestigious trophy. Best victory is very subjective.

2nd best. PSG away was inane
PSG battered us though, comfortably better over 2 legs. It was great because they’re such dicks but it was jammy. Felt like we played well for this win, they didn’t really create much at all and resorted to constantly just hoping Doku could do something for the whole second half.

Prefer this over EL victory by far, there was no jeopardy in that one, it was pretty much routine, this was epic.

This or that PSG CL game away - both wins relying on academy players

Recency bias - Liverpool in the quarters too

This, the PSG game and the Europa League win have been the 3 best moments post Sir Alex.

This trumps the Van Goal FA Cup because it was against the best team in the country and we had to beat Liverpool in an all time thriller to get here.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember the PSG win directly as I was only following the club passively at the time. From 2013 to 2021, especially during the second half of that, I was following football rather passively as a result of our shiteness.

For me, the 3 best moments would be winning the League Cup in 2023, the victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup in March, and yesterday. The Europa League win is definitely up there.

Fair enough, I wish you had been around to experience it. Despite it leading to nothing it was a truly incredible moment!

Not sure I prefer this to the Liverpool game. I know, better team and trophy on the line... but we had to win that one for the trophy too.

Can we just settle for most satisfying cup run since SAF?

Beat Pool, pissed on Klopp's farewell parade.

Beat City, pissed on Pep's record.

Amad and Mainoo with the winners. A bunch of other homegrown players also scoring.

Brilliant! Shame every game in between those two was piss poor.
Shithoused Coventry and ruined every neutral's day by doing so.

Yeah, I was of course a fan at the time (as I have been since 2010) but I wasn’t really following football closely at the time. It’s fluctuated, and it’s only in the past few years that I’ve been following football closely again like I was between 2010 and 2013. I don’t see any screenshots relating to football on my phone from that day or the day after.

I can be honest now, but before the final I was telling everyone we had no chance, but deep down, I knew we had a chance.
Internal reverse jinx.
