2009-2010,
Star Rooney #10 - Became our best player. Our main man, carry and lead our team well. Goals and all-around individual great performances. Consistently that good. Finesse. For sure, Rooney at his peak. His best season by far.

he was brilliant post ronaldo but kind of let down by sir alex's failure to properly replace ronaldo and tevez.

his understanding with valencia that season though:drool:

I often wonder what might have been if instead of Owen and Valencia we'd signed Robben and Sneijder that summer. Reckon we'd certainly have at least one extra league and/or CL in the trophy cabinet.

Possibly, but I still think we were on course for a special season until Rooneys injury against Munich in the first leg. It meant he missed that crucial chelsea game at home (where tbh a draw wins us the league).
I think with a fit Rooney we win the Munich tie outright and get to the final at least. BUt its all ifs / buts etc.

I have major gripes with Fergie's transfers during that time. RvP was inspired, but overall we never replaced our midfield players properly. It was a stop gap, constant shuffle, guess our midfield every game type situation....but we still ended up winning the league thanks to Fergie.

Must say that his overhead kick is one of the best moments I saw at Old Trafford. Just seen it again, the reaction on the bench is hilarious.

I can understand being delighted over all, but 'delighted' with last season and the season before? Seriously?!
I find it delighted in interesting way.. like yup he's done, every player will decline eventually, time to move on and someone else take his place.

Season before ~ In general, where is Rooney? Oh there he is... glad Martial and Rash saved the season.
Last season ~ Credits for trying. Past it. Broke the record, good end. Thanks for some of the goals.

Not delighted in fun-happy way.. if those make sense.

At the end of his press conference Jose said he thinks one day Rooney will return to the club, am I the only one who can't see this happening? Had he retired with us maybe but since he's left he's made it abundantly clear he's always been an Everton fan than a United fan which leads me to feel if he gets an ambassador role anywhere it'll be with them (where he probably will retire)

the ambassador thing was supposedly part of the huge contract he got with Moyes

Outside the UK, he is synonymous with MUFC. He'd be prefect for international ambassador duties.

Didn't seem like a legend returning today. Couldn't bring himself to say anything nice before the game, didn't even give the fans an acknowledgement.

Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
He played well today.
Could have been a very different game if he had put away that chance.
He looked gutted at the end seeing what has happened to his boyhood club.
Think Koeman will be sacked not too long from now.
Everton could do a lot worse than appoint Rooney player/manager.

1 pt from 3 away games against the probable title challengers isn't the end of the world after all.
Maybe they shouldn't have lost that way against spurs, but our score didn't reflect what happened.
It started the hardest way for them but they surely aren't relegation candidates.
They'll start climbing from now I guess.

Thought he did a terrific job given the circumstances today. He looked like a one man team most of the time for them... He really needs loads more pace around him to get the best out of him consistently, but he's obviously still a good player. Everton fecked up in not getting Hernandez, play him in front of Rooney and an actual pacey player out wide instead of spunking 45m on Siggy and they'd be way better for it.

He needs to play as a 9. No wait, as a 10. But wait, he needs pace around him. No,no,no, he needs to play in deep midfield.

I am so happy he is not our problem anymore.

Yeah, it's never actually his own shortcomings, is it? If he just had better players around him and a manager who knows how to play him, he'd be world class again.

I did enjoy our team being on the receiving end of his passes.

Best game he's had for us in about 3 year yesterday,we could of been in trouble if they'd played sandro or calvert lewin instead of him. From an everton point of view i thought he was awful. Happy he's not at our club anymore.

He was probably Evertons beat player, but its mad for them to be playing him as their CF, he just cant do that role, and hasn't been able to for years. He can contribute to Everton, but he isint a striker. Glad the crowd gave him a good reception - he's out record scorer. The only person who still thinks he should still be at Utd is Garth Crooks, and he's never right. Everyones happy.

Difficult situation, had they not been losing and then lost by a significant margin I think he would have given a little more recognition to our support.

He's trying to win their fans over still remember.

I cant believe people saying he was good, or decent, during that game. It's almost like they feel sorry for him, because it was insane how many times he literally just gave the ball away. His 'pressing game' was all but him standing hunched in the general direction of the ball and looking upset when we didnt pass it straight to his feet.

So happy when Davies was subbed rather than him, and really happy that he's not our problem any more.

It really is odd. I think it is because you can still see his class in all the unimportant parts of the game. But he is clearly finished at the top level. He also kept giving the ball away before being subbed off, to the point where he was actually finishing his own team's attacks.

I reckon he'll jack it in after this season. Last season he could keep telling himself that all he needed was a run of games, but I think it must be completely apparent now that the golden days are never coming back. A lesser player might stick it out for another couple of seasons, but with his money and profile he must be starting to think it's not worth it anymore.

Wasn't it always clear though?

He's never said otherwise to be fair, years ago there was an interview where he said he decorated his kids room in Everton colours.

I wouldn't have begrudged Rooney a visitors goal, same way that I was oddly pleased when Van Persie scored in the Europa League, and it would have been very interesting to see how he celebrated?

How much worse could they do?

I can see why people will disagree with me, but when he came off I didn't like how he just blanked everyone applauding him.

I get his loyalty is to Everton and he's supposed to be professional, but at least raising a hand in acknowledgement would have been nice. He came across a bit sour in blanking the standing ovation

Nah, I thought the same. I understand they were getting beaten, but even so.

If you think about the human element to this it must be tough for him. He's been playing with Giggs (retired at 40) Scholes (retired at 36) Ronaldo (in his prime at 32) Carrick (Still at United at 36) I could on. Meanwhile he's 31, he's had to leave United because he was nowhere near good enough to get into the team anymore, he's playing for a mid-table club, he's retired from England because he'd be a bit part player. That has to be difficult to take. I'm not saying it's come as a massive surprise to him that he's not got the same pace at 31 as he did at 21 but it must of been a shock to him how much he's gone downhill.

It certainly came as a surprise to me I was one of the idiots who was telling people to wait and see and how with Mourinho coming in Rooney could a brilliant number 10 and he'd surprise us. Then I finally got the time to Old Trafford and I saw him playing against Swansea and it was he was running with an invisible backpack full on bricks on his back he was so obviously slower than the rest of the players on that pitch it was actually sad to watch.
