His managerial record is absolutely awful this looks to have disaster written all over it. Their 2 point off third ffs.
I'm not going to confidentially predict a success but his record is not that bad in context. Looks like John Eustace has been very harshly treated too.

Took over bottom of the table Derby and kept them up. Next season registered 55 points which would have been good for 17th all while under severe financial restriction. It was the 21 point reduction that took them down.

First half season at DC United didn't manage to improve a very bad team. Second season mid table.

He's managed in 4 different campaigns, improved his side's performances in 3 of them. He hasn't took anyone from last to first or anything as remarkable as that but he's not been awful.

Can't help but feel like this is gonna go horribly wrong.

Replacing a popular manager who was doing a good job just because the chairman/CEO wants a 'big' name is never a good way to conduct business and that'll have a massive impact regardless of whether Rooney is any good or not.
My best mate is a Birmingham fan. Theres a sense of ‘fixing what aint broke’ about it and it is already drawing comparisons to when they sacked Rowett for Zola and then won 2 of 24 games. A lot of their fans would be content with a comfortable mid table finish this season having spent many years chewing their fingernails into the last few games, and looking forward to building a squad further next summer.

on the flip side, the feel good factor since the takeover has been high and they are willing to back Rooney to continue that but there is a sense It will sour quickly if he doesn't hit the ground running.

Wazza never struck me as the type to go into management but fair fecks to him, he's giving it a proper go at some less glamourous clubs and by all accounts is doing a decent job.

Rooney, Carrick, McKenna all in the same league now - great to see former players/coaches building managerial careers

His record and what he has achieved at the relevant teams based on their contextual situations has been very good.

Still think it's odd they got rid of Eustace. He seemed to be doing a god job. Must be something else behind the scenes.

This line from the club statement.

A new First Team Manager will be announced in the coming days who will be responsible for creating an identity and clear ‘no fear’ playing style that all Birmingham City teams will adopt and embrace.
So he's basically responsible for the development of a whole new style throughout the club from top to bottom.

Best of luck to him.

Said it in the championship thread but Birmingham have got previous for this. I think Rooney could be a good manager, but it puts him under so much pressure

The fire crackles as the children gasp in awe. Snow begins to fall outside the window as your tale comes to an end, but the youngsters are still thirsty for more. 'Tell us about the two he scored against Andorra again Grandpapa' one child begs. 'No, no! The legendary brace vs Kazakhstan!' implores another. The oldest boy pipes up. 'Be quiet you two, Grandad tells those ones all the time. Go on, tell us the one you promised us last time - the penalty vs Slovenia...Grandad..G-Grandad?'

The rocking chair creaks to a halt. A serene expression is on your face and all of Rooney's goals flash before your eyes in your final moments as the children embrace you. His one World Cup goal. The legendary double in Minsk. That tap in against Liechtenstein. They know what's happening and are scared, but calm.

The last thing you hear as you slide into the black warmth of death is the youngest boy - old beyond his years, a football fanatic who spends every free moment outside kicking his battered leather ball against the wall. 'Dont be sad, he lived a hell of a life...in the age of Rooney.'

Indeed.

On the one hand, it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on at a club that isn’t a basket case. On the other, that weird statement from the club suggests that whoever wrote it has absolutely no clue as to how much is involved in achieving those objectives. This looks very much like “appoint a glamorous name and hope that some of the glamour rubs off on the club”.

Why would you get rid of a manager when you’re 6th in the league? Or did he just leave. His first game against Carrick.

Huh?

On topic, great to see him work his way up. Same sensible and down to earth approach that served him so well as a player.

Weird attempt at trying to be funny by ridiculing the national team performances from a player who at 18 years old was tearing apart Lilian Thuram in the Euros.

So the dream would be he gets Brum promoted in the next couple of years and Everton nicks him. He gets them into Europe and Man United nicks him?
Never gonna happen. I don’t think he’s all that as a manager. Probably will have a similar managerial career trajectory as Steve Bruce.

I understand this was probably said as an insult but Steve Bruce is no. 6 on the list of most games managed in the Premier League
That would obviously be quite a good career trajectory
And obviously he's an ATG author

I didn’t mean it as an insult in any way, Steve Bruce has had a very solid managerial career. I just don’t see Rooney ever reaching the elite status and managing clubs vying for top honours. Although with the way United are going..
