Absolutely not. You assumed we were going to do something that we never did. At the time of your post, we'd sold Elanga and maybe Teles for peanuts (after the deal almost fell through).

Why can't some of you admit you were played and join the others in the real world?
Still our best selling window since 19/20 revenue wise. If we sell Henderson, third best since 15/16. And those two other windows relied entirely on a single sale (Lukaku and Di Maria).

It's still pretty mediocre but there was an effort and some success at selling several players for a fee.

It has been an absolute farce.

Who do we really have left to sell immediately?

Bailly, Maguire and Van de Beek? We've not done too badly ultimately now Williams and Henderson have gone.
Players who gave no real future but are here technically or just out on loan but should leave this summer:
  • Henderson (until it's announced)
  • Maguire (would need to replace, with Todibo?)
  • Bailly
  • Donny
  • McTominay (would need to replace, with amrabat?)
  • Martial (would need to replace but always injured anyway so no difference).
Debatables/those who we should probably replace to get squad roles in line with wages or just realistically they won't get ahead of the 2 we have in their spots or those who might get replaced in a year:
  • Sancho
  • Pellistri
  • Hannibal
  • Fernandez
  • Varane (Saudi next summer)
  • Dalot/Wan bissaka (I think we still target a new RB next summer
Amad/Antony, Rashford/Garnacho and Hojlund with a new CF should be the front 3 options for probably 24/25. Casemiro, Bruno, mount, Eriksen, Mainoo and a new CM should be the midfield group.

If I had known the situation was already that dire, I would have advocated trying to sell Sancho this summer already.

Same issue than Maguire : Massive United fee so very high and unrealistic breaking even point but worth a try.
As much as I'd like to see Sancho finally coming good for us, he is actually surplus.
Should have been moved on this summer regardless of how dire the situation is

The United fan boom bust cycle. Blind optimism soon followed by the crushing realisation that the club is still run by pillocks and nothing has really changed

Would think most clued in supporters would know that latter and such optimistic thought will be well held back until the glazers and their business buddies are long gone from the club and replaced by competence.

I might be in the minority but this window has been half decent for me from a sales perspective. We used to sell players for nothing or let them run down deals, we’ve actually recouped some fees this year.

£20m for Henderson is OK. Pricing McTominay out of a move was the wrong move though.

Its not on the current regime that we haven't maximised the value of the likes of Henderson, Bailly and Elanga. Bailly should have been moved on a long time ago. Henderson should have gone after his Sheffield Utd loan and we'd have been talking £30-40m...but OGS failed to make a decision. Elanga probably wasn't too far off at £15m, but had there been continuity and stability at the club and not another summer of upheaval, he'd have likely been gone for £20m last Summer. Garner seems about right at £15m, arguably again we could have scraped another £5m with some clever marketing.

Still a decent pile of deadwood to shift...

Bailly
Maguire
McTominay
VDB
Martial
Greenwood

Add Sancho and Williams to the pile next summer.

26 years worth of debt!
The likes of Cole Palmer and Brennan fecking Johnson are going for 40m+ while we shifted Elanga, an actual international with PL and CL experience for 15m. Yeah, we are getting better...

Wish we could sell Maguire & McTominay to the Portuguese league but won't happen

Getting only £15M for Elanga was a bad deal
We would've definitely gotten more if we had sold him last summer. Sitting on his ass all year doing nothing surely didn't help his value.

Elanga doing good will maybe help United make better sales in the future. If there's an impression we produce PL ready players, there will be clients. Hopefully the young ones that were kept for the first team will have some minutes to show themselves and find some footing like he did.
