What do you see happening with Gareth Bale?

He is one of Wales greatest ever players without doubt.
A very good player indeed. No question about that but he never reached to his full potential. At least that is what I think. Real Madrid could have been his perfect big club ending. I know he scored some goals and won Champions League / Spanish League but so have plenty of others who even did more for Real Madrid to achive that.

I was maybe using wrong words. He is one of better players in Wales history but not the greatest. I wonder if he even is better than Ian Rush or Mark Hughes (looking at their level when they played). Let alone Giggs.

I don't trust Zidane on this. There is no way Bale would openly refuse to play and jeopardize his contract with Real Madrid which is the cause of all this nonsense in the first place.

The more likely scenario is that Bale refused to get on the team bus unless Zidane promises him minutes on the pitch. Zidane is just making up shite now to paint a picture of Bale's unprofessionalism etc. so that they media get off his back.

I am fully with Bale on this one. He is one of their star players and parading him around like a mascot isn't in good faith. Let him stay at home if he isn't going to play.
You’ve contradicted yourself there. Refusing to go on the bus because Zidane refuses to play him more often is pretty much going on strike.

If this happened at Utd what would you say?

In my opinion he is the best Welsh player ever - I used to go to all the games when Rush et al were playing. Not the best career I would have to say Giggsy for the amount of medals for that.

Giggs was fantastic and also better over a longer period but for a clutch of 4-6 years or so Bale was something else.

I can't judge John Charles but he would have to be in the equation too.

You don't have to trust Zidane. You can check what players and fans think.

Sure, I don't think Zidane is blameless for the situation but the way Bale have been behaving is not what you want from a player.

His level was fantastic from late 2010 up to 2013 for Spurs. In his early years at Real Madrid he was getting 15-20 goals in the league and also that great goal in the Copa Del Rey final v Barca so look beyond the CL final goals and performances and there's plenty there. Dragged Wales to Euro 2016 and played well in that tournament although I thought Ramsey was their main man there.

So pretty good up to 2017 when injuries started to bite and now seemingly he's not bothered whether he even plays much for last 5 years of his career which is a big shame.

Bale will be remembered mostly as a guy who wasted his talent putting money over playing .

However i doubt he cares

Bale seems to have lost love for football with all that money in Real Madrid. Shame. But human nature. He could have been one of greatest Wales players. Now? Well, I don't think we never have to discuss about Giggs vs Bale.
Hehe, could have been? He walks that accolade pretty easily with Ryan Giggs and for top level there is no competition at all. Furthermore, I don’t really think he cares much about being the best ever from Wales in the grand scheme of things.... (which he knows he is already). Poor attempt at playing him down, Bale was a magnificent player before the madness started and it’s not like he’s only had one or two good seasons.

Let's consider that for a moment. If we told Sanchez at the start of the he would never be player, he wouldn't have a future here and hence he should feck off to another club as he isn't wanted, would you still blame him for such behavior?

Real Madrid have told him to leave as they don't fancy paying the money they have promised him through the contract. It's really in bad faith to parade him around as an extra, take him to games and not name him in the playing squad, putting him on the bench and not giving him any minutes. He is their highest paid player for god's sake and embarrassing him like this isn't going to erase the mistake of giving him the hefty contract. They should just shut up, swallow their pride, and just pay him what they owe him.

If I was Bale, I would bleed RM dry for being so unprofessional in the first place which I am glad he is doing. They have no business asking him to travel with the squad if he won't be played.

Not Bale mistake that Madrid decided to give him that contract. Bale should not budge and force Madrid to pay every single dollar they owe him for the contract.

He had a fantastic career so this notion that he won't be remembered fondly is just not true.

I can't even imagine how great it must feel being on 600k for 3-4 years doing nothing but training sessions and no pressure whatsoever. The dude is using Madrid like a fitness club subscription while getting paid a fortune. And has all the time to chase hobbies and do whatever the feck he likes. I don't feel sad for him, I feel jealous!
World class facility, nutritionist, trainer while getting paid to be fit. Insane. His day only last 3-4 hours max and he can feck off playing golf with his buddies. Definition of making it in life

Wales have only been to two tournaments. Quarter finalists in the 1958 WC. Drew their 3 group games and got knocked out 1-0 by an 18 year old Pelé.

Isn’t that a breach of contract if he says he does not want to play? Surely the contract would dictate that it’s his job to play and train whenever the club and manager needs him to.

I like that he’s fleecing Madrid but I think Madrid have a right to sue him on this occasion if he has refused to travel when the club or manager wants him to.

Yes they do have a right asking him to travel he has a contract and him refusing to do so is exactly what Madrid want him to do as it’s a breach of contract.

Imagine if this was Pogba or Ozil I’m sure half of you would change your tune.
Spot on.
While Madrid have certainly not handled this very well, Bale's behaviour and attitude has been inexcusable. He's getting paid a fortune, showing up for training is not enough, If your employer says you travel, you travel even if you don't play. He gets paids hundreds of thousands a week at a time when millions are losing their jobs and the world economy is facing it's biggest crisis in decades.

If some Spanish speaking player did that to us, we'd be absolutely livid and this forum would be full of post in righteous anger.

Tbh I don't buy the refusing to play stuff Zidane brought up. It's simply breach of contract and if so Bale would definitely at least be fined. We've heard of no fine yet so imo it's not like he refused to play. Remember it's a very big difference between Zidane asked him to play and he refused, and Zidane asked him if he wants to play and he said no.

This whole saga started with Perez wanting Bale to replace CR7. Zidane disagreed with Perez and forced to leave. CR7 left as well. Then Real was a big mess and Perez asked Zidane back. The first thing Zidane did when he came back was bashing Bale, isolating him and publicly making it clear that he wants Bale gone. Then came the £1m a week offer for Bale to play in China. Bale agreed but Perez said no at the last minute. Which effectively pissed off both Zidane and Bale.

Imo Bale has done nothing wrong tbh. It's Perez who is the biggest culprit here and Zidane to some extent.

To answer the thread title, I genuinely believe he will stay at Real Madrid until his contract expires. Then go to wherever pays most, so long as it has golf courses nearby.

In 10 years he'll still be known as a guy who ripped the Premier league up, went to Madrid and won 3, or is it 4 Euro cups?

He won't have any regrets having banked tens of millions and living in splendour there.
I don't know about that, most people that i know and are not British tend to have a poor opinion on him. When a club has a contract with a player but the player wants to go, they usually find a solution. Bale choosing to stay there and rot to collect his checks is his right, but it makes him look very bad. Good thing Sanchez was not like this.

No one is going to denounce Bale for breaching the contract, or fine him, as they have not done with James.
Surely they have discussed the issue with each other as Zidane said.
If Zizou has accepted it is probably because he doesn't care.
He is fine playing and risking the tie without him.
If Zidane lies, I imagine Barnett will say it shortly.

I don't think Zidane lied either. His exact words was "He preferred not to play". So imo the story is quite simple, Zidane asked Bale if he wants to play and Bale said no. He doesn't want to play for Zidane anymore after all the treatments he got from Zidane.

People may say it's unprofessional but imo Bale was just being honest. It's only unprofessional if Zidane asked him to play and he refused.

Jonathan Barnett doesn't come out of this well. Can't see other players fancy him when he's left his client in this situation.

Bale had agreed to go to China. This is mostly on Real.

Despite Bale playing around in the stands and in training ground photos etc recently, I still struggle to question his professionalism or desire. He has never shown anything other than 100% of both for Wales so it seems massively out of character for him.

I think he’s just frustrated and would quite happily knuckle down and work hard if he had any glimmer of hope of reestablishing himself at RM. I don’t think he’s looking to put his feet up.

He's won 4 CL 2 La Liga and more, scored worldies in CL final.

650k a week, living in lovely Madrid, loads of good golf courses.

Perfect situation for Bale.

Agent is a genius surely ?

His reputation is in tatters. As a footballer he will be forgotten not long after he retired.
Its not as if he would earn 0 if he moved elsewhere. I hope its worth it.

In Wales, Bale is regarded as a better player for Wales than Giggs, no doubt. Maybe the greatest ever, except amongst those old enough to remember John Charles.

He's considered the best Welsh footballer to ever play the game by most in Wales
He'll be remembered for a long old time in Wales at least

Well that's relative, if contracts are so sacred then it doesn't matter what the player prefers or if he wants to play for Zidane or not.
Imagine every player in the bench like Mariano or Brahim saying that they don't want to travel but as I say, it has to be something specific and personal.
Bale has traveled without playing on more than one occasion

Not as important to him. Unlike Giggs, his Wales career takes precedence over his club career.
Great.
So the farmers in Wales reckons Bale is bigger than Giggs, while the rest of the world reckons Bale is a bit of a knobhead.

This. Look, asking not to be included for whatever personal reasons and being granted that by his boss is not a breach of contract. It's likely that that's just Zidane not caring either way, but still. He didn't refuse to play

The situation is what it is. He'll be here next season, he'll probably play a bit when needed, and that's that. Unless he starts looking amazing in training and then on the pitch when he plays, he'll keep being last choice for Zidane - because Asensio and Rodrygo and Vinicius need game time and are young and have big margins to improve, and Bale doesn't, and he's not better than any of them right now

Bale has undoubtedly had a better Wales career than Giggs, but Giggs’ standing with Welsh fans is very low, most would even put Bellamy above him because of this.

I’m not one of those by the way.

I think he should just tell them that he's happy to have his contract terminated by mutual consent whenever they are ready. It's not in RM's interest to keep paying him an extortionate wage to never play... and he'd probably be happier in Miami or somewhere. He doesn't need the money.
