What should we do for the right wing if we don't get Sancho in the upcoming window?

He wasn't a weak link, he has been great. It's about options and the longer term future. For the left we have Rashford and Martial that can play at a similar level plus James, centrally we have Martial and Ighalo while on the right, Mason and that's it, our other option on that flack have been very poor. Consider that Masons long term future is centrally and buying a top talent for the RW makes all the sense in the World.

Literally the only thing, other than a couple of things which were him just being a kid as far as I can tell. BVB were playing hardball a la Sancho, and Dembele pushed for the transfer.
€120m for Sancho you mean?
Its the sort of figure that I would have expected, and I don't think it's outrageous when you consider the fees for Mbappe or Joao Felix or Ousmanne Dembele.
Even Coutinho sold for more than €100m, and we paid more than £80m for Pogba four years ago.
Consider that Van Dijk and even Maguire sold for around £80..!
So for a 21 year old star attacker, with this sort of goals return, all things considered, its not unreasonable.

Yeah. That's all true and yes they can expect that. But things have changed economically for the entire world. And our ability to pay that amount would have been different if the stadium wasn't shut and tv money not at risk. Most large clubs are withholding on big spending and it's only valid for us to expect them to either drop prices or walk away.
I'd definitely go with Coman. He's really good (I know he's injured sometimes, but we'd have Greenwood to cover RW), and with Sane and Gnabry there, he will lose his starting spot. Loan with option to buy would be great.
it's not about a 'weak link', there was a good piece of analysis on one of the threads a couple of weeks back which touched on our patterns of play being very lopsided and slanted to the left because of having Mason and AWB on the right who weren't helping us advance that much up the pitch on that side. This was something even the Soton manager admitted to exploiting and by the time the season ended all the other teams were using it to stifle us. We need an option on that right side if we are not upgrading on AWB who by himself can get us moving forward and give us a more symmetrical option in transitioning between different phases of play, something mason for all his prodigious talent is still a bit too young to be relied on to do. Sancho is the best option on the market arguably who will be a gamechanger on that count.
Yup there were. Barca camp and Deschamps both said he has a poor attitude/application. There were several reports that Barca were unhappy with the way Dembele informed them he was unwell to train. While it is also claimed there have been several instances of the winger breaking club rules. This included failing to turn up for a medical appointment. Reportedly, he got addicted to playing Fortnite and was staying up until the early hours of the morning which was affecting his performances. There have also been reports that he doesn't eat as the club's nutritionalists have instructed him (eating fast food often) and not going to scheduled spanish lessons.

They don't need or want to sell, and it wouldn't surprise me if United had agreed a price with Dortmund months ago, prior to Covid, but are now having a punt for a discount....

I understand that argument, but if Rashford gets injured (again), I don´t think Martial will be an option on the left as Ole would probably prefer keeping him in the middle. This means James would be playing, or maybe Lingard. On the right side - although the options are not great - we have Mata, Lingard, James, Dalot. We should absolutely sign Sancho, but there is a reason why we have been linked with Grealish as well - as one could argue that the hole on the left side is just as wide.

Been thinking about our transfers and how we are trying the change our attitude towards making the right choices, within wage structures, player attitude ect. But also the balance of star signings like Sancho and some good money ball moves. I did a quick transfermarkt search for other european leagues to sus out youngsters racking up assists in around the continent. Obviously nothing new. But found some interesting players and one that popped up was:

Which is why we will walk. It would be just as risky for them to sell their most valuable asset in a market that is supposedly low. If things were steadily improving, by this time next year, they could be getting just as much for him, if not more.
It was silly for us to even get involved in this, especially for so long, if we never had the intention to pay what they wanted. They seemingly made it very clear they had no intention of negotiating. Now all we're going to get is a sea of broken muppet hearts who have been invested in this for too long.
Back on topic: I think since we aren't getting Sancho, I'd hold off on making any 'big' signings in that position this window and go all guns blazing for Upamecano and a DM. Sign a player as backup to Greenwood instead. Then in the coming windows, the only positions left to address would be the RW spot and maybe the fullback positions, completing the squad. Still think we need to address that position, but there will be some interesting players being made available in those positions in the coming years, Dembele, Mbappe, Cherki etc. who we should be keeping tabs on

Maybe promote Ethan Laird to challenge AWB. Or sign a left back to challenge Luke Shaw and move Brandon Williams to the right.

Turn Greenwood into a Starting XI wonder.
Greenwood can play RW but is not the solution. Having watched him play in that role, he has striker instincts and keeps drifting infield. I do not think he is the solution for the RW although he can play there.

I would take Bale on loan for a year if we could guarantee signing Jadon next year,however my worry is there will be many more sharks circling then.
depends how much of his wages real would pay but yeah there are not many better options who are likley to be readily available

I wouldn't mind paying his entire wage if they give sell us Regullion. Tbh, getting them two on loan isn't a bad idea either and would give us a buffer room to focus on other areas for now. Although it would hold back AWB's development.
Why would it? Regullion plays on the left.. Also there is no way Bale is happening when we have a manager who said last year that "I would rather have holes in the squad than assholes"

The problem is relying on our only 3 real attackers for half a season. Either that or you bring in Mata/lingard to play RW when one of them is injured.

How much do Watford want for Sarr. If it's 40m or less he could be a good option to rotate with Greenwood and then try to add Sancho into the mix next year. I don't buy into the idea of buying into Adama for 60/70m that kind of outlay means the board won't allow us to spend 120m next year after spending that much on someone who just becomes a rotation option.

The hold up in the deal isn't Sancho's replacement rather our unwillingness to spend so much in the current climate. We are looking for a deal where we pay in installments rather than 90m upfront . If fans are back in stadiums by Jan maybe it could happen.
I think the hold up is Dortmund isn't answering anymore. Also you never had to pay 90m upfront. Also if fans are back Dortmund's own stance might change
Nobody knows what the hold up is. Pure guess work. There's some credible people now saying its the agent fee causing an issue. And with a transfer fee of £108m i imagine the agent fee could be very high so it's possible it's true.

Zero chance of coman coming now bayern arent keeping Perisic. Dembele is intriguing. Hes young and his attitude and professionalism could change, its happen before.
A leftfield loan signing or permie could be interesting. Rabbi Matondo has been mentioned a few times recently with Utd. Never seen him play so no idea. Would be cool of utd could pull off a unknown who ends up being awesome like Alphonso Davis for bayern.

If Bayern aren't going to keep him (as seems likely), then loaning Perisic or buying him on the cheap seems like a good short term option. He would give your frontline something different as a true wide man, has the versatility to play on either wing, and would bring a hard seasoned edge to a young group of forwards. You then can either go in for Sancho next summer or decide that Greenwood needs to be part of the starting front three and concentrate on finding a backup.
I wouldn't mind Sarr, some people will laugh at the idea but i think he is a good option. These people would laugh at Mane as well but look at how he has improved. Sarr is young and bound to improve given it is first year at Watford. 2nd year in Premier, he would probably do better than the 1st.
Perisic isn´t going to stay at Bayern. Just confirmed. If Sancho won´t come, then get Perisic as a good squad option. Experienced, versatile , super effective and great workrate. Can´t go wrong with him.

The idea of Perisic is that he would be a stop gap until next summer when we can try to push the Sancho transfer again and hopefully under different circumstances to this year with the pandemic.
Even if Sancho would come next year. Having 5 quality options is what a top team should have.
Martial,Rashford, Greenwood, Perisic, Sancho.
Perisic/ Greenwood could also replace Martial when he needs a rest.
We will sign Sancho in January when we are 11th in the table knowing us for what we could have paid for him now.
