Didn't we get Zlatan and Pogba without CL? Also highly rated Mkhitaryan? CL matters yes, but it's over rated imo when it comes to United. A good manager, lots of money and a good plan will attract most players. ETH is a new beginning that many footballers will believe in no matter how bleak of a picture the English media is trying to paint. Keep in mind that much of the same journos that are bombarding us with negative narratives are the same that are protecting Lingard; one of our most toxic players together with Pogba.
We were far worse then we should have been this season; it's not a fair reflection on the quality of the squad imo for many reasons; many of them have been fixed, manager in particular, and others are on the way (letting go of toxic players). If things go half way decent only City, Pool and Chelsea have a better squad then us. Most ambitious players should look to be better then Arsenal and Spurs next season.
It was one of our worst ever PL seasons and I get we are all felling down, but it's silly to look at this season and let it define the teams level while forgetting that we got 2ed and 3ed before and a European final and a bucket full of semi finals. We had an implosion of confidence with a number of players showing their true toxic colors again plus a manager unable to impose himself in such a situation. With that sorted this summer, we will be much, much better.
Anybody here watch the Italian league? Milinković-Savić has had a mental season with Lazio.
If we were to sign a new midfielder from Italy I'd prefer either someone younger like Tonali who can play at the 6 well or a good playmaker like Barella. Either one + De Jong would make for a massive upgrade in ability and quality in midfield.
SMS would be pricey and I'm not sure just how well he'd translate in the Prem.
Yeah he's not my first choice but he's always been linked. Just wondered if any avid Serie A watchers could provide a bit of an analysis.

I wanted him and surprise few made any move.....but he has signed a long term contract, isnt going anywhere, certainly not cheaply now
See a lot of next seasons startings elevens on here and on social media in general with Dalot starting and feel a touch of vomit in m mouth.
I would rather Bissaka, almost rather WIlliams and also rather see Laird get a chance.......and none of them seem to be the right option either but DAlot is bloody dreadful.

While I don't agree with every name on here, I do like the idea. There needs to be balance between the big money signings for big talented players and lower money signings for depth in the team for players who can play.
For the big money signings, I would go first with Darwin Nunez at CF. He would need to be convinced to forgo Champions League football for a year and to buy into Ten Haag and the future at United. Then, I would go for a defensive midfielder: Rice, Tchouameni, or DeJong are all good options. I don't think one would be going wrong with any of these three. That might be all the big money signings for one season.
In midfield, I think that Garner can contribute next year. Fred, I think, in a more structured system with more pressing may excel. McTominay is a good backup. Hopefully, VDB under Ten Haag can find better form and contribute. I would look into buying Firmino, who can play at attacking midfielder. He also has been playing in a pressing system and he has played for a winning team.
Then, there is depth needed at CB. I like Salisu at Southampton. I do not think that he is the long-term answer, but he has the athleticism and ability to be the 3rd or 4th CB and cover for injured/tired CBs. I'd hope that Mengi is ready to take on a role as the 4th or 5th CB. Jones and Bailly should be gone, and depending upon Mengi and transfers, Lindelof could be sold as surplus to plans.
At LB, I think that Brandon Williams is better than Telles; he is faster and better defensively. He can get forward, though he is not quite as good technically as Telles, but Telles certainly is not consistent in putting balls into the box. Plus, he is so slow that he cannot keep up with most, modern wingers and he can't get back on defense after going forward. When healthy, Shaw is certainly good and sometimes better than good.
At RB, there are a few young RBs that might be had for less than major money. Rico Henry at Brentford is better than either option we have right now. He may not be the answer for the future, but he could give us a decent couple of years before Ethan Laird comes into the spot, or United bring in a higher-rated and more expensive player. Another possibility is Jed Spence of Forest (and Middlesborough). He is younger and has more potential than Henry. Spence, if he reaches his potential, could be a long-term answer. AWB could be sold for a decent amount. In the right system, he is an excellent RB. But he is never going to be effective in a system where the RB needs to get forward more than sit back and defend. He would improve the defense of most mid- and lower- table clubs (e.g., Crystal Palace). And, Dalot is a good backup.
I don't really think that we need incoming talent on the wings. That is the one place where we have both currently talented, if underperforming players, and young and upcoming players. If we had a chance at Mbappe or Vinicius Jr., of course, we should jump at it. But I'm not certain we would improve the position much by spending 30-50 million on talent similar to what we already have.
We are rebuilding, which includes building depth - not an old folks club on the bench - as while as a starting 11.
Pretty much think this is a perfect wish list For ETH to implement his favoured 4-1-2-3 Regista system with a deep playmaker, like you I wish just can’t see it happening and let’s be clear here after last summer in which most of us thought Sancho, Varanne, Ronaldo would have guaranteed Champions League at worst. For this reason I’m not so fixed on who we get in but who we get it out; D Henderson, J Lingard must go because of their overall self importance and egos, It’s a shame because both could have been useful to ETH but no one likes a player that leaks in the dressing room and there are too many rumours.
We need to also get rid AWB(20), E Bailly(15) P Jones(5), A Pereira(5), T Chong(10),B Williams (10) A Martial(20). All of these players have had numerous chances and should be sold for a combined fee of £85M , knowing the way we work in the transfer market we will probably have a fewloan to buy options like AWB to Palace or AM where we gain a £5 loan fee with an obligation to buy so that £85N will be more like £70M. The club should not entertain a loan deal for Dean Henderson, simple sell for £40m or the highest bidder, if not 40m keep him, play him in Europa and league keep and gag him. We have a well rumoured £120M plus sales of £70M which is £190M . I genuinely think the club is looking at 2 or 3 players seriously in key positions in this order;

No 8 - FDJ,SMS, C Ericsson (60M),(45M) F

I just have a feeling that Eric has done is due diligence and with Steve McClaren will have a better insight into our dressing room and the demands of the premier League. I think you will find that the Pl team will be a very different team to the team we play in Europa League and League Cup with the first 11 kept for PL and FA cup. With that in mind we might see a definite 4-1-2-3 formation with 2 players in the squad for every position. This will allow him to review border line positions and players.

Just be ready for wide striker who are inverted hugging the touch line and overlapping Wing backs but not both he may use Timber as the inverted play maker and Shaw as the overlapped but Luke who is highly underrated is just as suitable as playing the Daley Blind Role at united and actually learnt some of this under LVG abs Daley Blind. Ideally we need a full back like Thomas Meurnier or Dumfries in the winter transfer window.
The player sales roughly £200M with Henderson loan deal of £10m paying the shortfall of the £190M with Most of the players in the squad being on trial if we sell Henderson , we might buy Pau Torres in which case Maguire will be playing in the Europa league most weeks!

This is the kind of investment we need to be making in the coming weeks. At least six. I agree completely on the positions, too.

120m and what we recoup in outgoings. Bailly, Jones, Cavani, Lingard, Pogba, Mata, Matic are all almost certainly gone. That's a lot of money going off the wage bill. Add to that whatever we receive from possible sales of AWB, Dalot, Henderson, Martial and it will be a lot more than 120m.
If United only buy 3 players this summer fans will riot. I think we'll get 5 minimum.

Hopefully Ten Hag can get a tune out of a refreshed & confident Van Der B, coupled with at least 4-5 new signings, I think we should start heading in the right direction.
A perfect one would have been starting early like Dortmund and making moves to replace the outgoing players while also looking at improving the positions where we are exceptionally poor. Obviously we can't replace every player who isn't doing well but if we could replace the exceptionally bad ones then we would be making forward progress.
The problem is that we don't have the structure in place to move quickly with signings, and we don't have the money to buy more than 2 players. 3 if we go bargain basement.
Ideally though, a CB, RB, 2xCM and ST would have been a good start. Obviously that would cost a lot of money though.

Also this from Statsbomb's Director of Football resonated with me as its something I've often thought about myself over the last few years; that if United had allocated a month of Pogba's salary on its data science department around the time he was signed, a lot of problems could have been avoided. Nerds are relatively cheap compared to the best footballers!

Even though our points total was miserable, there are some really good players there. They just had feck all organisation at the start of the season, no style of play and, eventually, no self belief or motivation.

Are there any decent cb out there that can play rb aswell? Except timber. In a ideal world we’d want to sign a cb and a full back but because we need a midfielder and attacker aswell which won’t come cheap, the alternative is to sign a cb who is versatile and is comfortable playing rb. That will save us money and solve 2 positions we’re in need of.
Assuming that ETH has 120M plus player sales. A perfect window has to be where we can sell the players that needs to go and get the right set of players.
