With the links of him moving to Saudi seeming a bit more credible - is it worth thinking about who would be captain if Bruno were to leave? (No it isn't, but lets do it anyway).

We're not exactly stacked with leaders - feels like Casemiro (is he our vice-captain? I think he is... if not, does anyone know who is?) would be the most obvious shout but he's only going to be here for another year, and he might not even be a starter.

So go on - who do you think it will be? I think Rueben might want to give it to Mason Mount....

The only viable candidates are Maguire, De Ligt and Casemiro. But De Ligt has only been here a year and the other two don't play every week.

Yoro. It won’t happen in reality but if it did…it might just send a statement to our more experienced players that they need to step up or get out.

Maguire is the obvious choice.

Which doesn't say much for the rest of the squad.

De Ligt I imagine.
Likely to be a first teamer and we're still unsure whether Casemiro and Maguire will be here next season.

I think Dalot is a left choice in the sense he clearly has the right mentality, availability etc

Typically you won't know who is "Captain material" as a lot of what makes a good captain is what happens behind the scenes, who motivates, who works harder, who brings out others best qualities etc

There was a squad photo taken on the steps of the plane before the flight the other day and Ruben was at the very front with Bruno on one side of him and Mount on the other. It looked like Mount was seen as one of the senior and more important players to be standing like that.

Dalot is another possibility.

It'd send a message to the kids that you don't have to earn anything, you'll just get it.

I had that same thought when I saw the picture - but then I figured it's probably just a picture and someone had to stand there.

But then it is why I mentioned Mount in the OP! Does seem like he's very good with the young lads at the club (well according to his own words in an interview with him)

De Ligt but I’m not even sure he gets in the team.

Am I right in remembering Shaw with the captaincy in one game when Bruno was rested recently?

Given no player is safe, no doubt Berrada will make Amorim wear the armband for matchdays

Off the field maybe, his performances doesn’t warrant him starting which makes him useless as a captain.

Who is the "vice captain" at the club anyway? I'd give it to Dalot. He's a starter when fit, has a good fitness record, his professionalism and mentality has regularly been praised even by Ronaldo so that's a big plus, and he's been here since 2018 or so. De ligt has only been here a year, Martinez is injured too much, Mainoo too young (and unsure in role), Maguire was stripped of the role and not a starter if all fit (but probably the most likely other fit), Casemiro isn't wanted by the club but a valid choice... Its a void for sure.

Severe lack of players who will actually be first choice long term (apart from maybe Amad and Yoro), never mind captain material. Should be a Maguire but I doubt he'd want it after last last time.

De Ligt has potential and he was captain of Ajax at 18 I believe but I’d like to see a lot more from him next season. He could do it.

Casemiro and Maguire are probably here for one more season but could do it I guess.
