Why hasn't anyone used this tactic yet?

Oh god.... Phil Jones might just be the first player to score 3 own goals in 1 game if we tried this
I guarantee that the one time we'd ever see Fellaini get a header on target is when we're doing this.

This thread reminds me of an instance (between 06-08 I think) when Giggs took a throw in and bounced the ball off an United player's back, right in front of him, to gain easy possession. Remember thinking it was a pretty smart move back then.

Can't believe I don't remember this. It's a foul throw mind.

You often see goalies rolling the ball in their area. Don't you?
Yea, then they kick it out/pass to a defender.

They can't roll it out then pick it up again.

Hence why when a striker runs at a keeper who's rolled the ball out they rush to boot it upfield and don't pick it up again.

Loads of teams play percentage football, which while not quite as you word it, revolves around punting long balls into dangerous areas, on the chance that it'll either drop handily for another player, that they'll win the second ball, or that they'll win a free kick.
True, but I mean, with this, you could just leave most of the team up there and continually just blast it out of play. Saves running about or passing or any sort of fun for the opposition/fans/everyone, which is a victory in itself.

True. Add in some cheating and kicking, and it's pretty much what Stevenage and Westley do.

But im not sure any premier teams would stand it for long. That's basically rugby!

True. Might have to watch some more lower league stuff in that case. Any tactic that leads to more trolling on this scale is fine by me.

Falls under trickery. I've seen 2 instances where the defender flicks the ball in the air to head it to the goalie. Foul and yellow card.

Reminded me of this:

Could work for a few seconds until the defender and the keeper are closed down. Why not take a long goal kick - that'll probably eat as much seconds.

Imagine Hart trying to bounce the ball off Kompany's head. It could go anywhere.

The thread turned out to be bad because of the rule they found out, NOT beause of your guys counter arguments ..."Oh, just someone to mark the defender!" What? My 7 FT TALL DEFENDER? Remember, footballers are usually like 5'10. It would look like this (Also, GK are tall and have loong arms)

See, now we have a visual, this thread is much better. Although why is the goalie wearing the same coloured shirt as his seven-foot defender?

Here's what I see. A one-armed gibbon in net, a levitating quadruple amputee for a forward and Peter Crouch with an inexplicable shark fin in place of his arms as the defender. This is more like football as perceived by David Lynch.

Fellaini likes this. Sign up Crouchie too.

This diagram changed everything.

Why can't De Gea place the ball in Fellainis hair? Then Fellaini can just walk about with the ball in his hair and see out the match

This tactic is against the rules. The ref will give a yellow card and indirect free kick. Here is the quote from the FIFA laws of the game (in bold):

Cautions for unsporting behaviour

There are different circumstances when a player must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour, e.g. if a player:
• commits in a reckless manner one of the seven offences that incur a direct free kick
• commits a foul for the tactical purpose of interfering with or breaking up a promising attack
• holds an opponent for the tactical purpose of pulling the opponent away from the ball or preventing the opponent from getting to the ball
• handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession or developing an attack (other than the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
• handles the ball in an attempt to score a goal (irrespective of whether or not the attempt is successful).
• attempts to deceive the referee by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)
• changes places with the goalkeeper during play or without the referee’s permission
• acts in a manner which shows a lack of respect for the game
• plays the ball when he is walking off the field of play after being granted permission to leave the field of play
• verbally distracts an opponent during play or at a restart
• makes unauthorised marks on the field of play
• uses a deliberate trick while the ball is in play to pass the ball to his own goalkeeper with his head, chest, knee, etc. in order to circumvent the Law, irrespective of whether the goalkeeper touches the ball with his hands or not. The offence is committed by the player in attempting to circumvent both the letter and the spirit of Law 12 and play is restarted with an indirect free kick
• uses a deliberate trick to pass the ball to his own goalkeeper to circumvent the Law while he is taking a free kick (after the player is cautioned, the free kick must be retaken)

Okay, how about signing a pro freestyler and sub him on in the last minutes to do his shit and play the clock/draw fouls?

WHY HASNT ANYONE USED THIS TACTIC:

Instead of 1 player taking the ball to the oppositions corner flag to waste time and inevitably lose it to the defenders who in turn start a counter attack which always ends in a last minute winner, how about 3 players go to the corner flag to waste time and form a wall guarding the ball?
