Why I prefer attractive football over winning at all costs

ManUtd scored only 80 goals in 98-99 season (only 12 more than Leicester) and I don't think anyone would say we didn't play entertaining football that season.
Yes, and the season after we only scored
17 more (a 17% increase) and yet that was a record.

Turns out 12 goals in 38 matches is quite a lot. The easy way to spot this is to compare the 09 team to the year before when we scored 80 as well. 12 goals is a pretty big change.

Over the 38 games it isn't.

Of course it is. 12 fewer goals than Leicester over 38 games and you're into Van Gaal territory. For title winners that's shocking.

What you're saying is that there's no significant height difference between someone who is 6ft tall and someone who is 5ft1in.

Not a good analogy. It's just 2-3 games where team smashes someother team. It's just scoring 1 more goal in 3 games on an average.

That's mental. It works out at 0.37 goals a game, it's a massive difference. It's turning 4 1-0 wins into 4 4-0 thrashings.

Again over 38 games that's just 4 games. So 34 games remains same.

Edit: also if goals = attractive football then no one should question Jose's football. His team always was in top 2-3 in goals scored.

Yes, but 4 games is OVER TEN PERCENT of the league. That's 10% of the results change from barely scraping a win to absolute twattings. 38 games isn't that many you know? Or lets say that's 6 1-0's that were turned into 3-0 drubbings. Still nothing?

Basic questions. Were we as entertaining in 08-09 as we were the season before? What about the season before that? we only scored 15 goals more than Leicester that season remember, that's 5 results instead of 4...

A 15% change is significant, no matter how you look at it.

If you think goals scored = entertaining then we weren't. We played some good football without finishing off chances. For example we scored 83 goals in 2006-07 but 78 goals in 2010-11, in terms of entertainment and football, 2006-07 was miles better than 2010-11.

Lets agree to disagree, 12 goals over 38 games is nothing. Just scoring 1 more goal in 3 games on an average.

That's enough to turn the results of over 15% of all matches played from close wins into stomping victories.

You sure would've been happier with a 1-3 loss today playing beautiful football at home.

We didn't even play attractive football, we sat deep and invited pressure. First 20 mins when we pressed high we played well and were deservedly winning 2-0. Minute we went ultra defensive the game changed.

The fact is I haven't seen any happy arsenal fans after this match. So being happy with losing while playing attractive football is a myth.

Not quite, but yes if that was unattractive then fine, but I bloody enjoyed it.
