Why is our fanbase so toxic towards its players?

It's because the divide between players and fans has never been greater.

Modern day pressures on your average fan Vs the multi-millionaire lifestyle the players lead. There's more passion in the stands than on the pitch. More people care about the result off the field than on it. Tens of thousands of fans make a weekly pilgrimage to OT sacrificing so much time, money and effort to support the club, but also to be entertained and see a team with a fighting spirit. Instead we've been served up with utter dross for years now, with players operating at 50% at best, all manner of records are broken at OT for the wrong reasons and the fortress we once were proud of is not looser than a wizard's sleeve. While the fans trudge off to make their journeys home in the crowds and the traffic, the players tweet some meaningless bile about picking themselves up and being better next time, hop into their super cars, go to their Cheshire mansions and are in their bubble until next match day.
I'm not trying to justify any unwarranted abuse, hatred or insults towards the players, but strong criticism is only fair. All we want are honest players giving it their all and showing some respect for the club, the badge and the fans - instead we get shrugged off by people who have forgot their roots and the bedrock of Utd.
I've never felt less connected to a Utd team than this hap hazard bunch of mercenaries.

Because we pay shed loads of money for players who are predominantly second rate. Because there's been several instances of what to an outsider certainly seems to be an effort to get rid of managers by lowering performance levels. In fairness a lot of the hostility is directed at Woodward who is largely responsible for player wages, renewals, etc.
