For all the people living in Canada...

Can I just say, hats off to CTV's coverage and montages that I'm watching right now...AMAZING footage....
They've really captured the true emotions of the Olympic games....Hats off to the editors, creative directors and everyone involved at CTV...

Wonderful compilations....very touching.
It's good for say the end of the games, but CTV have milked them montages every damn day, almost to the point now where its cringe worthy.

Just wanted to say that IMO this was a brilliant Winter Games. I love winter sport so this games has been a real treat. Every single event has had its moments of brilliance and the many hours I have spent watching these games have been well worth it.

Particular highlights for me would be the Mens Downhill and most of the Alpine events really, as they are my favourite. But also the Snowboard and Ski Cross, the half-pipe and the short track. But every event has had great moments from the hockey to the cross country to the ski jumping and the sleigh events.

Really proud of Canada and the 14 gold medals we've managed, was a great overall olympic performance. Kudos to the many other nations and their athletes who've made this a very entertaining spectacle to watch.

Finally, I'd like to spare one final thought for Nodar Kumaritashvili who dies fulfilling his Olympic dream - RIP lad

Lol...fair enough but maybe cause i only saw the last couple of days.., i just edited my post and added a bit more, but I think CTV and the media had a big big role to play in this full blown Olympic fever and patriotism that the country's seen.. in the last few days in particular...

It's a simple ploy, whack that annoying 'believe' song over some slow mo footage, add a couple of gold medal ceremonies in there & voila you pull on the heart strings.

On behalf of Americans I apologize, then. At least you're not on tape-delay right?
haha, no tape delay. I've recently moved here & i miss the BBC coverage from back in the UK

Lol.....just read that blog you posted..sure some points are valid, but damn talk about being a cynic.
Very cynical in places, but CTV kinda lose perspective sometimes & really ignore on the other non-Canadian athletes competing. I understand they have a responsibility to the country, but its just NBC style re-badged.

feckING GET IN !!!!!

Was at the Crosby residence for the game, kind of a surprise late invite but man it was unreal surreal stuff being with his family for this, much like the playoffs last season it was a treat to see his success from the family perspective

That Sidney Crosby fella doesn't seem very good at this skatestick lark at all.
You said?

(Though I will agree, his performances had been less than spectacular, but one thing with him is, there's always time for a cameo, the goal was fantasticly taken, it was in the script)

LMAO!!
feckING BRILLIANT

would love to see pissed off canuck faces tomorrow all over downtown tomorrow..BRILLIANT..

c'mon Yanks..
BACKFIRE !

The US will win this. Luongo will feck up horribly.
Made 2 pretty clutch saves in OT

On a side note...Congrats to Canadians...
I guess you have to hold up your hand and be pleased that the country that wanted it the most got it and no one would appreciate a gold in Ice hockey as much as Canada..so fair dues there..
Not true but Shadadada

Congrats to Searl, the great Dr., and any other canucks out there for your great victory. We'll getcha next time.
Thanks mate, the Americans should be nothing but proud of their boys.

One thing people living outside of Canada really missed out on in these games I feel...and Canadians were really lucky to experience....

Can I just say, hats off to CTV's coverage and montages that I'm watching right now...AMAZING footage....Absolutely beautiful beautiful videos!

That's one thing I was very impressed by...CTV really knows how to portray patriotism, get that Canadian spirit alive and running and get that "Canadiana" feeling into everything..Even the adverts by the sponsors were very touching..
Excellent stuff...and I'm still watching this stuff. The way CTV has covered all the back stories of the athletes etc etc...the Canadian reaction etc, to capture the tears.. of joy and despair..

Well done CTV..
Couldn't have said it better myself

All these comments sum up my thoughts as well. What a brilliant games with the perfect ending. United win. Canada win. A truly Red Sunday.

I feel for Miller. My favourite player (plays for my team) and its just too bad he wasn't Canadian or I wish him an Olympic Gold :P

I'm back.

Great 50km win for Northug yesterday, and a nice win for Canada.

All in all a good Olympics and I'm glad Canada did so well. It's more fun when the home nation wins some gold.

Only in Canada. Pity!
These games were great and the tv coverage was fantastic. CTV and the other networks were far superior to the CBC coverage in the past. I have to LOL at the local Vancouver CBC station, which has been so anti-games from the beginning as they didn't get the rights to broadcast it. Well done Canada; as a Brit who has lived here for years, I have never been prouder of my adopted country.

I actually preferred CBC's coverage of previous games.

The coverage is about my only complaint though.

Yeah coverage has been good and I loved the new high quality slow motion pictures they have shown throughout.

Some small hickups in the beginning of the Olympics, and a tragic death as well made for a bad start. But it has been a good game.

As a child of Lillehammer 94 I know the sense of unity hosting such games and getting good results does for a country, so I am glad for the Canadians.

Pretty good games for Norway too. We probably got the gold and medal count we all hoped for, but I thought more of them would go to Bjørndalen/Hegle/Svendsen and Northug.

Anyhow, Northug is the skiking, Bjørgen is the skiqueen so we got to be happy.

Positively surprised with a fantastic haul of trophies for our alpine team (a team of two that is). Very disappointed with Bøkko and our skijumpers.

Swedes were very impressing with their skiing. Sødergren, Olsson and Hellner had a great tournament. Luckily two of them are oldish.

Can see an exciting future for cross country skiing with Cologna, Northug and Hellner fighting it out for years to come. Hellner will take the Northug road I think and involve from a sprinter/free style specialist to a complete skier. Yesterdays 50km classic was very strong considering that it was probably Hellners least favourite distance.

It made for great viewing, but there far too many cock-ups. Having said that the Canadians seemed to be great hosts.

And now all these sports go back to where they were three weeks back... irrelevance.
Nah not here. Skiing is huge here in Sweden both downhill and crosscountry/biathlon. I reckon it's the same in Norway and Germany. And well hockey has it's fans too.

More people watch winter sports than football, I'm pretty sure, Ruben

Read somewhere that football is the fifth most popular sport in Norway, judging by viewers. However, I don't know if that stat counted winter sports as one or several, though. Can't actually be arsed to find it either :p

Perhaps.

If one were to look at viewers + number of people playing the sport though football would still be top I think.

On another note, I feel empty inside now without the Olympics.

I almost threw myself in front of a buss earlier. How long does Olympic withdrawal syndrome usually last?

Still delighted that we restored our reputation as the most impressive winter sports nation in the world though.

It's really interesting to see the debate over the CTV coverage of the games. In here it seems pretty much in favour of it, but yet this is the only place I've seen it comprehensively praised. Most of my Canadian friends have been crying out for CBC to get the next set of games.

For the UK, we had our lovely BBC covering, but you can tell how few winter sports get coverage by the people sent out to cover the games and the commonators. The hockey final just about summed up the BBC's attitude to winter sports, I mean thanks for showing the game live, but the studio was covered by a 1500m runner, who had commontated on curling, a rower, who suggested that he'd only watched the hockey as it was on his portfollio and then a Canadian down hill skier who admitted that she wasn't a hockey expert. Add that to the disgraceful Brent Pope as a colour commontator..... I only hope the BBC look at the viewing figures not only on the live broadcasts, but also the events watched on line and also using the iplayer catch up service. They'll prove how popular the winter sports are and may decide to show some more.

As for the games themselves, they were a true success. I know it started off very badly with the sad death of the Georgian athelete, but once they opened and the events started to take place they have been huge. In it's own way, it's probably beaten the Beijing games in becoming a standard bearer of how a games should be hosted. Well done to Vancouver (that hurts, that really hurts saying that, Edmonton would have been a better place honest!), Well done Canada, even this years World Cup may pale into insignificance to the Winter Games come December of this year.

Probably until the World Cup starts.

We are the best at winter sports, there is no doubt about that.

We are by far on top when it comes to overall medals won. Both gold, silver, bronze and total. Russia and USSR are counted as two separate nations though, but that's the way it is.

Nah I think Beijing was the best ever. Partly because of the positive surprise with the bad expectations. It was also a great success in every way, and with Phelps and Bolt breaking every possible record it will be a difficult Olympics to match.

Lillehammer is still the best winter games hosted though. Samaranch said so himself;)

No contest. Lillehammer was silky smooth from start to end, Vancouver ended on a high but there were quite a few first week glitches.

Yeah and his mom and dad didn't make it to Vancouver for the Olympics do they were there, I was there during the Stanley Cup final last year with his cousin who had the house opened for friends.

I also got to play poker with him when he was home with the Cup, Maxime Talbot was a pretty good player.

Overall the coverage was fantastic with all the different networks instead of CBC holding exclusive rights and some events go missing.

The Curling and Hockey coverage were outstanding

Just got back from the re-opening of Holmenkollen. Looks mint. Didn't do much towards easing the post-Olympic pain though.
