Woodward, Glazers....

You can... but the United brand still carries a hell of a lot of value that you simply cannot establish overnight. Not that I disagree - the likelihood of somebody tabling an offer that would even tempt those parasites is minimal.

Agreed - the rot set in the day they took over. We saw it coming at the time, fearing what's happening now. Unfortunately most of the fanbase turns a blind eye to the realities (or simply don't understand properly) - only 'protesting' during the transfer windows when we're not living up to their FIFA/Football Manger-muddled (modern?) perceptions of football. See how quickly the Woodward/Glazers out trends and threads like this one disappear if we do make any significant signings - just like they did in the last 4 or 5 transfer windows.

Yeah it makes me feel physically sick that we only seem to campaign for Woodward/yankee leeches during a transfer window and are quiet as little mice when we make a big signing and is part of the reason why none of them feel under any threat from us whatsoever

It's not an awful situation it's a dream situation. He was plodding along managing a team in Norway and now he has his dream job .
Yes I understand he would love 2 or 3 new players but Ole is in dream land

I'm sure he's greatful for where he is, but he'll still be pissed off at not being able to buy players... He is managing the club and that will bring pressures / headaches etc that he'd prefer to do without.

Plus he'll have ambitions and to meet those he'll realise he needs better players. I'm not saying he's going to kick up a storm or anything, but he's not just gonna be just happy go lucky and sunshine and rainbows.

Can somebody with a knowledge of economics, in ley terms, explain to me why it was advantageous to the Glazers to give Jones, Peters, Mata etc large contracts recently? It must have implications for their financial situation but I don’t get it, particularly as it’s stopping better players replacing them. I genuinely don’t understand what their logic is

I personally think this reason more than anything else shows how badly the club is being ran .
My opinion is they gave them new deals as they didn't want them to leave on free transfers when any club being ran properly would have assessed the certain players worth to the team and come to the sane conclusion that Jones especially is injury prone and most definitely not worth a new deal .
Plus if they had let Jones , Mata , Pereira leave on frees they would then need to spend to strengthen the squad which is another thing they don't like doing

I really don't understand this criticism of our managers who haven't come out shouting, publicly criticising the ownership of the club (which employs them - in what in most cases is their dream job).

Would you?
No I wouldnt come out publicly and criticize them, that would be stupid, but I certainly will not come out and criticize the fans for being vocal and call them "not the best type of fans".

Well if this in dream land for him I would hate to see what a nightmare for him was like

Why would it be a nightmare for him ? He's managing the club he loves and doing a pretty good job of it he's loved by the fans . Can't see why Ole would think he's in a nightmare

Personally I wouldn't have any qualms about exposing them for the utter scumbags that they are, yeah I lose my job but there will be others and would rather go somewhere that isn't operated in such a shambolic way

It's not. Those extensions are examples showing that the problem isn't just poor direction/leadership from the owners...it's also poor decision-making on the football operations side.

Overall, I don't share the doom and gloom attitude on here. I agree that our chances of a major title are pretty slim in the near future but with the way our club is set up, our success is largely predicated on one person: Our manager. Ed and the Glazers will continue to churn through managers until we find one that can succeed in spite of them. Finding that person will take a while, but I doubt we'll spend 30 years in the wilderness like Liverpool did.

Yeah I agree with that side of it but currently is Ole expected to win the league? Ole isn't stupid he will know already if he will be getting anymore new players or not and if it's not then he will know his side's limitations.
If he walks away from the job because he hasn't been backed he will be loved by the fans if he's sacked because we can't compete he will be loved by the fans .

Now that would be be poor business management... Like most clubs we have a finite budget, we simply couldn't afford to let three first team/squad players go and replace them with better ones.

If Ole came out against the owners publically he'd be adored by Utd fans all over the world even more than he already is. But which man would do that and cost himself millions? None I can think of.

Would love it for Ole to walk as it would cause mayhem for the parasites but it will never happen. Only we can get them out. Nobody else will.

I don't care how much criticism I take and getting called a doom and gloom merchant but this is not better than the summer of 2018, yes we have a manager now who loves the club with a passion but as the model goes when he get in the top 4 there is severe underinvestment yet again and we are left angry and frustrated

I dread to think of the lack of options he will be left to choose from off the bench on Sat and we all know who is to blame for that, god I know it would leave the club in utter chaos but how I wish he would go nuclear at them because this is hard to see a club legend having to bite his tongue yet again

You are correct but mate are you surprised? This is what they Glazers do they care nothing about winning it's all about the cash

Hard to feel any motivation for a new season when that's the case though

We won two league titles and made a CL final after that. Our demise started the second Fergie retired.

Exactly the point. We managed to cross the line with average players just because of that great man. We should have invested Ronaldo money into quality players starting 2008/2009.

I'm not talking to you specifically but yes, we're all going to be frustrated until we stumble into a manager who can overcome the constraints of the job. Considering we haven't won the league for going on 8 years, we should be getting used to that by now.

Yeah but then it's an absolute disgrace there are constraints to the job and no wonder Klopp & Pep told Woody to do one

I get why people may be against overhauling ownership. Believe it or not, it could be worse.

But for those who aren't shouting Glazers out at the top of their fingertips, can anyone point to a single positive that's come about due to their ownership?

Yeah this has been slowly happening since 2005 it's just that for the next 8 years Fergie's magic disguised the serious lack of investment particularly in that CM area that was left neglected for far too many years. Sickening when you look at him being forced to peddle that "no value in the market" garbage which saw us miss out on the likes of Aguero, Toure, Sneijder, Silva and probably others as well.

Hazard :wenger: :wenger: :wenger:

There are constraints to every job...even the ones I and presumably you work. The core problem with the United job is that the constraints are prohibitive. It's effectively 2-3 jobs in 1 and you need someone skilled enough to be able to pull that off while also dealing with directionless owners and, from a football perspective, an incompetent chief executive.

I
The team was quite good imo. It was an aging team but still a lot of quality in there. He didn't just win the title that year he got our record points total with it too.

I really liked Tom Cleverley as a player at the time but it's hard to say he was innate quality given what happened to him later.

Unfortunately I don't have a job because I pissed up my career and made poor choices at 16 leaving me now on the employment scrapheap in the eyes of most employers, so seeing Utd in this transfer window is doubly hard because got nothing else to help me pass the time right now which makes it worse. Lets face it we are never going to appoint another decent manager whilst these leeches own the club and that is bloody hard to swallow indeed

I'm ready for that DOF search to start again.

Longest recruitment drive in history. What's it been? 3 years of looking?

They might finally book some interviews in a couple of years. Can't rush these things.

Sorry to hear that. I'll just say that I don't think it's fair to say that we are never going to appoint another decent manager. Thankfully for us, the competition for the best coaches doesn't work the same way as competition for players. United still have the ability to pay inordinate amounts of money to their managers and the job is still one of the more glamorous in world football. Also, for the real egomaniac managers, it's one of the few football clubs left where the manager gets to shop for the groceries and cook the dinner.

Really ? As fans yes but it's not like we have been utterly shite . If Ole or the players can't feel motivated then I'd be amazed

The problem is that much like players it feels like we are just paying managers to come here rather than them actually wanting to take the job which is such a sad state of affairs. There is no doubt if we weren't run by morons that we may well have got either Guardiola or Klopp hell at least someone in that kind of mould

They will do their best on Saturday but won't be able to make many changes other than Donny (if he's on bench) to change things if that needs to happen which I am pretty sure that it will

If Klopp had come and been given a supportive framework and the same budge with no strings, I think we would be champions right now. But he didn't come because he saw what we all see - the club is less interested in winning than in making a reliable profit. So that supportive framework would never happen and the strings would always be there.

Mate never feel like that . You are still young in terms of your working career. Find something that you are interested in and even do some courses and work towards a new career .
If big Sam can keep getting new jobs then you can as well haha

Croadyman you will be fine , I find your posts very sensible mostly so I think you are a smart chap. Find something you like and focus on it. Nothing is impossible in life. Take that attitude with you and you will be happy

Football can be a great comfort when life is shit. And a great joy when life gets better. I hope it does for you. You seem like a good person.
