I’ve come around to the idea of Rodgers being a good move for Man Utd…

Better than Ole - definite check

Capable of winning trophies - check

NO STUPID EMOTIONAL CONNECTION WITH THE SAPPY FANS - Huge check

Would get treated like a normal manager and sacked if underperforming - check

This is what Utd needs imo. Anything to get rid of the Solskjaer and the bizarre toxicity that the club has created for itself.

Could Utd do better? Yes. But at the moment the club is a joke, Rodgers could serve as a bridge out of the current situation for them.

This is a good take.

On the one hand, seeing our squad performing under a manager that has a tracked record for improving players and playing at a high level is quite exciting.

On the other, there is the fear fans/media will jump on his back because he's not Utd DNA/has Liverpool connections and I'm not sure he has er the character to power through the tough times because his teams do have a soft underbelly. He will need a strong number 2/network and perhaps if he embraces someone like Fletcher maybe it could work?

I'm only going with Fletcher because as a player I always thought he had that ruthless professionalism so maybe it can transpire behind the scenes also.

He would be a very good interim if we are to set our expectations back but we may miss on Ten Haag/the next progressive manager on the rise during that period.

All the people crying about this should bare in mind ANYTHING is better than Ole continuing. We need coaching ASAP.
Yeah the sooner we get Kolo Toure at Carrington the better. From a team that's conceded (checks table) more goals than us!

Thankfully this is all coming from terrible sources.

If Rodgers is their man, and he has a release clause, why have they not moved for him yet?

Rodgers is a good coach and a lot less weird than he used to be, but the fact he’s ex Liverpool should rule him out of the United job, especially as he was sacked there. Liverpool were dire by the time he left and he seems to really decline after a couple of seasons. His teams can play well but he’s been poor with transfers for a lot of his career and Leicester have a shocking injury record. They also have to same issue with set-pieces, which he has not fixed. That would be a red flag to me.

On the other hand, he is a massive improvement on Ole and would get more out of Sancho, Donny etc. He‘s got a record with young players, so Laird, Hannibal and Amad would likely have better prospects.

In any case, your squad is massively oversized so when Ole goes it’s time to give Murtaugh and the recruitment team real authority to manage the squad size/recruitment. If Rodgers is the man, he should focus on coaching and feeding back to Murtaugh on what the squad needs.

Rodgers isn’t a terrible manager but don’t let your desperation to get rid of Ole cloud your judgement either. That’s not how you solve a long term problem.
The long term problem is a myth. If he sucks then you sack. That’s how it works. It’s very simple.

We both know that’s not how this club operates.
This is the lesson that needs to be learned. It’s the most important one. Time does not equal success. Success equals success. That’s it.

Just FYI this house hunting in Cheshire thing has been going on for ages, was floating around on Leicester forum in September/Early October, nothing new.

Also Kasper and a few other of our players live in Cheshire as well

That’s true but that’s not how the club operates sadly. You really think if Rodgers sucks we will bin him off at the end of the season?

Probably, because he won’t get any slack from anyone. I’d back him to do well personally. Great coach.

Moyes got given a 6 year contract. LVG was here for too long.
Which they swiftly tore up once it was obvious he wasn't the guy.

LVG was given a little leeway because of the battering they got for "not giving time" to Moyes.

We wouldn’t, it would be the usual give him time guff. He is a good coach but I would rather we get the best we can get and he isn’t in my opinion.

You really expect us to be ruthless after all that has gone on? Come on mate. Listen, I’d love that to be the case but this is the romantic United board we are talking about.

Definitely, as I doubt we could get a manager as good as him as a replacement.

He has completely transformed the club from top to bottom including massive policy changes throughout our youth systems which is now starting to see our youth teams thrive with younger squads

Whether he would be given that level of control with you guys though...

A move to Man Utd is a move I wouldn't begrudge him, just not the kind of team you turn down (unlike Arsenal and Spurs lol)

Which is who?
I would go for Ten Haag, and wait it out till the summer if that is the case and get an interim until then. If he doesn’t want to come then go for Poch. I hope we have at least tried for them before Rodgers. If he is the best we can get then fair enough but we should at least try. Rodgers is currently employed after all.

What makes Ten Hag a better choice than Rodgers?

Managing Ajax and managing Manchester United are not quite the same thing. He may have a nice philosophy but so does Rodgers who happens to have experience at a very comparable team in Liverpool. Ten Hag is a bigger risk than Rodgers.

They would sack him if this was the goal of our club. But it is not. Rodgers can comfortably challenge top 4 with Manchester United's resources. Maybe even Carabao and FA. But that's it. He is not winning PL/CL/Europa in a million years.

I think you are being grossly unfair. He is definitely good enough to win the Europa

The rest is bang on. And if you think the Glazers give two feks that he managed Liverpool you really haven't been paying attention.

Doing well in Europe against big teams and his team play great stuff. I like that he turned down Bayern too, so clearly likes to set up stable and show what he can do. Rodgers I fear would collapse eventually and we would be here again sooner than under Ten Haag. This is just my opinion of course. I want us to at least try and het him in if possible.

He turned down Bayern, why would he be interested in us?

This is one of the saddest things about Utd these days. The number of people that hate England but somehow support Utd because of our past success’. Just support Munich or Madrid or something mate.

Who said anything about hating England? What does recognising the lack of talent of the current crop of BRITISH managers have to do with a country? Embarrassing take.

Hopefully he arrives soon. The quicker this Glazer mole is removed the better.

Maybe he feels the time is right? Why do you want Rodgers so much before him? Convince me if I’m missing something.
I don't necessarily want Rodgers so much before him (I think both would be solid choices) I just don't really get the big clamour for Ten Hag whilst everyone is so quick to dismiss Rodgers.

Rodgers has IMO achieved more in his career and should rightly be ahead of Ten Hag in the queue at this point in their respective careers. Some serious underrating going on of BR.

Bizarre story. It says we want him ASAP - if that was true he’d be here. Now was the perfect time to do it. It also says Conte demanded 250m to spend in the next two windows…he’s now at Spurs ffs.

Yeah it's a complete nonsense story. Why wasn't Ole sacked on Monday and Rodgers hired by Wednesday? Ole is going to be clinging on for a while yet.

I don't doubt Rodgers is top of the board's list though. Because he best fits their profile for being a stooge who they can sell their pathetic false narrative around.

Their achievements and their potential. And the quality of football their teams play. And their records in European competition.

Rodgers is always going to be a bigger risk than Ten Hag, or any other popular choice for that matter. Because he will not be given time. Ten Hag would at least have unanimous support for a little while and be allowed to make a mistake or two.

Based on what. Most of the fanbase has probably never heard of him. Why would he automatically get more time than Rodgers who has actually had success in this country?
