Unknown. The QF draw will be on BBC this evening. But I guess they can do that without knowing all the names. The FA originally described the timing as "in due course"

The QF matches are scheduled for the 7/8 February, so hmmm soon I guess.
Thanks for the update!

How engaged do you think Skinner is in this? I mean, if this goes against United he is in the HOT SEAT.

Yes
So Villa field an ineligible player and their punishment is they still go through but United who originally qualified, don't? Makes sense, well done.

Villa have been "punished" by a 3 point deduction, but are still allowed in the competition. Points awarded to Sunderland who go through as group winners.

Villa and Spurs go through. United are out.

Club statement: "We are very disappointed with this outcome, and do not understand its rationale. We feel that it undermines the integrity of the competition, and of the women’s game. We are considering our options in response."

How can this happen?

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
So the only ones who got punished for Sunderland losing 7-0 to Villa who fielded an ineligible player are United

It was always on the cards though - given the way the rule is written.
Poor rule.

Womens, mens, kids game… the onus should be on the club to provide evidence as to why it could realistically be a mistake… and if not, you’re out. No ifs, no buts, everyone knows where they stand.

It’s clearly a rule that doesn’t take the wholeness of the competition into account. It would work in a plain cup format, but with groups and intergroup qualification, it easily leads to unfairness where the club in the wrong is not facing the bulk of the consequences, whereas completely unrelated clubs may. It is clear as day that it is unfair, and something should really be done with it.

Agreed. Both domestic cups should be knockout competitions. Have a vase or plate competition for first round losers.

I understand the group format creates more games, but the groups are not even seeded. London City qualify ffs.

Absolute farce and Women's football shooting themselves in the foot again

I doubt anyone would have complained if they kicked out Villa and just sent Sunderland in their place

Seeing quite a few fans of other clubs saying this decision is ridiculous too

It's worth noting if they had disqualified Villa, we might still have been knocked out. If they'd voided all Villa's results in the group - we could have seen Sunderland and Durham go through.

The rule's written as it would be for a knockout cup. It's a mess when they try and use it on a group League where some kind of commonsense/fair-play element is needed.

That said - a draw against City and we'd have gone through and City would have been out. We had it in our hands.

Can this club just for once speak up or send some kind of official statement? More than some spokesperson saying that we are disappointed.

Not only are we silent when it comes to men, now we are silent when it comes to women to.

First the daft Champion’s League qualification process that meant we had to beat PSG to even get into the first round, and now this. The way women’s football is run seems specifically designed to screw us over at every turn.

Any small chance of appealing this crap? Why not have the game of Sunderland-Aston Villa replayed from the minute the cup-tied player came on with Aston Villa paying for all costs to set up the rest of the game?

They should really get rid of lucky losers and have 2 teams progress for the groups instead, they lucky loser system is just a lottery especially when the groups are not seeded.

Why not have Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Man City and Liverpool in the same group next season and make sure only 1 of them goes through?

It's an absolute nonsense. There are clear rules about inelligible players in head to head matches, but for group stages, well, they have just made it up.

The offending club goes through. Villa have not been penalised at all. What an complete farce.

Indeed.

United would also have played it differently against City if they were eliminated if they lost I believe. I mean they knew Sunder had to score 5+ goals to eliminate them, so it was not fair in that sense either!
