Do you agree with Alock1's statement that Uncharted is as much of a shooter as Halo?

Afro, what impressions are you after and I'll give you my honest opinion?

Xbox One
Controllers almost perfect, but bumpers let it down - different to press if you have big hands.

Voice commands are flawless for me, but need to be more fluid by allowing for mistakes and less strict commands.
UI is brilliant in some places, and over complicated in others. I miss the old Xbox Guide button which just pops up mid-game and acts as a hub to send messages, invite to games, join friends games/party, etc. However, it's nice to be able to go to dashboard without pausing the game and do whatever shit you need to.

Console is huge, abit ugly but feels premium and not cheap.

FIFA - played one match (starting demo), felt different but haven't figured out how yet. Probably need to play online to understand what's changed - it just felt much smoother and fluid in all honesty. Graphics are better but nothing great.

Battlefield 4 - runs smoothly, no problems with connection for me. Unfortunately I found my two attempts at 64 player matches far too overwhelming which was something I was looking forward to.

Forza - solid, rumble triggers are awesome - not much more to say. I really do rate it highly, but all the other Forzas are similarly solid.

Killer Instinct - man, I'm not a fan of fighting games usually, mostly out of ignorance though. I would always give them a try, button bash, then label them as shit. This has a 'dojo' mode though which I started and it's teaching me all the basic, combos, specials etc. and I'm finding it really challenging. It's crazy how much strategy there is actually, how fast you need to think and react with certain moves and they're far from easy to pull off. Really enjoying it.

That's it for now.. NBA 2k14 or Assassins Creed next for me.

Gamertag: ILocka - add me Mr Anderson.

That's pretty much the sort of feedback I was after alock, so what's the guide button alternative then? Home screen?

Cheers Alock, I'll add you when home! Spiersey, let me know your gtag too. Mine will be JonoKiiid (still only have the 360).

I might stretch and get Forza so too, I'll just trade in a few 360 games I'd say!

Have the prices for games rocketed up? I may just wait next year or the year after to get one, after they significantly reduce releasing all the top games out on xbox 360 and my boredom kicks. Oh yeah when I have the money to invest in one too.

Doubt it, should be available. My mate at Gamestop said pre-orders for PS4 are 5 times bigger than the xbox one release day. Most people will get a One before Christmas, if not all.

I only pre-order by One about 5 weeks ago, and I'm getting it this Friday.

Glad I'm not the only one who wasn't comfortable with the controller, played a big part in me not getting one yet

As much hassle as swapping the hdmis and skipping the Xbox One if you didn't care about snapping. And if you do care about snapping, you don't want it in 720p.

Hardly a solution is it? But cheers for letting us know.

Microsoft are replacing the faulty Xbox Ones without the need for the console to be returned before a replacement sent, and also offered a digital download code of any first-party title (Ryse, Forza, Dead Rising 3).

With how short on cash I am, I wouldn't mind this happening to me in all honesty. Games are already installed on HDD so until the replacement I'm pretty sure I could still play as the disc is just there for verification. Could be wrong though.

Although, I'm not sure if this was mostly an out-the-box issue anyway?

Alock, how do I go about contacting microsoft? My kinect is broken. I can't switch it on as it says to plug it in, even though it is.

What Xbox One brings to the Next-Gen table.
- Will use my own anecdotal evidence.
  • Voice Commands - You can flawlessly navigate through the menus, control apps, and even control your television using voice commands. You could switch on both your TV and Xbox, enjoy multiple apps and then turn both TV and Xbox off without picking up the controller.
  • Kinect 'Sign-in' - You can shout for your Xbox One to turn on from another room; walk in, and it'll instantly recognise you (if you want it to). It'll say 'Hi!' and log you straight into your dashboard. If somebody else with an account walks into the room, it'll instantly recognise them and log in them also. If they then shout 'Xbox, show my stuff!' it'll insta-switch to their own dashboard and offerings.
  • Snapping - You can place an app (such as TV) to the side of the game you are playing. Can be a little sluggish to load the apps to the side, but somewhat useful and definitely cool non the less. Has lots of potential.
  • Suspend mode - You can pause your game, go to other apps, change your settings etc. and have the ability to resume from where you left off at the touch of a button.
  • Game Installs - the mandatory installs on games are annoying and can be slow when combined with updates.
  • Play before completion - not as cool as PS4 where you can place priority on single player or multiplayer components of the game; but it's still awesome to be able to start playing a game only a small way into the download.
  • Rumble Triggers - really cool way to give feedback on shooting and driving games. It feels great, especially when you crank the settings up on Forza and are constantly taking your fingers on/off each trigger for full control.
  • Skype app - the ability to phone landlines or video/voice call to communicate with friends who may not have an Xbox One themselves is pretty awesome. You can do this while in game, though you won't be able to snap the video to the side of the game as of yet.
  • Apps - OK, I know apps are on the previous-gen, but Xbox One has taken them a step further. Almost everything is now an app; friends, party system, achievements. It's possibly why the UI isn't quite as coherent right now as on the 360; it's definitely a big design choice which would have stopped any attempt at a carbon copy. However, the advantages are huge; they can update each element of the UI seperately. If they want to make changes to the friends system, they don't have to wait until your annual UI overhaul update. This system has great potential.
  • DVR - no streaming yet on Xbox One, but the ability to record a game clip (using a simple Voice Command!) is brilliant. To then have that clip ready for you when you leave the game, and then have the ability to edit it, add video/voice commentary and other effects is pretty cool. Also, game developers set certain parameters to be met which will automatically record. FIFA seems to record all the time and I have no idea why. Battlefield 4 will automatically record gameplay immediately leading up to a rank-up on multiplayer.
  • Smart Partys - Lots of people are upset that the party system isn't quite as easy as on the 360. Essentially, the only real difference is that both the host of the party and every player who joins has to press a 'Turn Party Chat ON' button when they enter. It's not hard to do. The necessity of this was simple; party's are now multi-functional. A party can be set to whatever game is being played by the party members. When one person joins a game, it will automatically offer an invite to the rest of the party. Or if no players are in a game, the party will search for a suitable game for you and invite you all together if you choose. It's really cool; it definitely needs to be refined, but it's brilliant when it works great (Battlefield!).

My biggest surprise has definitely been voice commands. I was never a big advocate of them in the Vs. thread, and was somewhat skeptical. But I love some of the convenience it brings.

I think that's it for now, will add more to this later.

Note: the features don't need to be exclusive to the Xbox One, aslong as they are exclusive to next-gen.

It was in stock for the proper retail price.

Must have gone quick. That's a shame, I have a few mates who are after one.

Nice one for keeping us updated. You are now the official redcafe Deals Hunter.

Phoned up Microsoft and they are sending me a replacement Kinect in the next couple of days with compensation to be 'considered.' Gave them the whole story of Kinect being the reason I bought the Xbox and that I'm tempted to get a PS4 after what has happened. They said the likely compensation would be the same as those affected by the disk drive.

Surprised they fell for that in fairness.

Who in their right mind would consider kinect a selling point?

I like it.

Give it a chance before you judge it.

Just seen a console only go for £570 on ebay. Like seriously, why the feck didn't I order one to sell?

Single player race, one AI opponent taking on the qualities of the driver he's based on.

Xbox One store is region free, so if you change your location in the Settings app then you can use the prices of other region stores.

US Store sells games at $59.99 which is £37.

All you need to do is apply a (fake) American address to a credit/debit card. The address isn't checked against the card, the only things that get verified are name, number and security code.

I got a 10£ voucher for Xbox from that NOWTV trial on Xbox 360. So tempting to get NBA 2k14 or Assassins Creed for 27£.

Don't blindly trust me, Im an idiot. Do your research first!

Everyone should be wary as buying in dollars often has its own fees from the bank. Just saying

True. But there is an alternative.

Buy MS points and then itll convert them into dollars when you attach them to the account.

I'm wanting to get one for the missus, but I still can't get hold of one. Everywhere seems to be pre-order, but they can't guarantee I'll get it before Christmas. Just put money down and hope for the best. Pain.

Really? In Ireland you are guaranteed (GameStop) to get one before Crimbo, such is the demand for PS4. As I said, I pre-ordered mine just over 6 weeks ago, and I'm getting my One only a week after release.

I haven't pre-ordered at all, which is my own fault really. My missus hadn't mentioned wanting the new Xbox til the other day. I thought that I'd wrangle one before Christmas. I didn't realise there wouldn't be enough. I got my 360 shortly after release before Christmas without pre-ordering.

GAME has got a big poster in the window saying "Guaranteed for Christmas!" so I went in and asked, and they said that's for people who have already pre-ordered, and if I was to pre-order today, I wouldn't get it until January. Bit of a pointless ad.

Ah well. I think I'll just wait until after Christmas.
