Yaya Toure is PL's highest paid player

It works in the US. If it works there, there's no reason it couldn't work here.

Clubs would be sued from here to eternity when they break the contracts.

And the top players would move on to the countries who wouldn't give a flying feck about such rules.

They'll all have to soon. Level playing field - that's what's needed.

Im just wondering how the heck the agent managed to negotiate this wage for him.

I mean its not as though they were having to drag him screaming from Barcelona - they didn't want him anymore and were looking to off load him.

Likewise, Im not aware of any serious interest from other major clubs capable of paying him such wages.

So what negotiating stance did the agent take to convince City that this player was worth paying more than any other in the premiership?

City are idiots and will pay whatever they are asked to pay.

As for a level playing field, I think the US model should be evaluated. Revenue sharing, salary caps etc - I'd be all for it. The influence of the manager would be more critical than ever.

As I said, the best footballer. And the second and third best, would leave the Premiership and play their football elsewhere.

And there's already revenue share in place in England.

And if they are so mercenary that money is all that matters to them then good ridance.

This is the News of the World about as accurate and truthful as a George Bush speech.

I suppose the conversation may have gone like this.

Agent = How much are you offering?
Dumb City Arab = Not a penny over £200k a week
Agent = My client wants £250k a week
Dumb City Arab = Ok split the difference £220k
Agent = That would make it £225k not £220k
Dumb City Arab = I am not good with numbers

 It's what I thought too. He's got a helluva agent (his brother too)

Maybe I m wrong, but it could be premeditated in order to create tensions between rival clubs and the players they are negotiating with.

For example, i m sure that Vidic's and JCole's agents will cite Toure's crazy wage.
