Yaya Toure is PL's highest paid player

Meanwhile back at Glazer HQ feck all happens. No value in the market see. Carrick is quality. Scholes hasn't retired. Anderson is the real deal. Hargreaves will be fit.

But we have Gibson

The crazy money given to Toure may also influence the contract talks of other top players. It wont help united reaching an agreement with vidic for sure

Vidic had a poor World Cup. I don't think anybody will be in a rush to buy him.
Maybe it is no bad thing the established United players didn't shine or were not available.
The worry was pre-tournament United would have to battle to keep the likes of Rooney, Vidic, Evra and Nani at the club.
Somehow I don't think we'll get many people knocking on our door. Good for us I think we had a bad World Cup apart from Park and the lively Mexican.

having a good world cup makes a player more marketable in terms of sponsorships etc but a good coach wont base his opinion on it.

Take toure....you cannot say he had a great wc but still got transfered for a silly amount of money

His shirt name is probably going to say Yaya Toure or Toure Yaya. First names aren't banned. Yakubu for instance.

They're gonna be fecked if they keep doing this, especially when UEFA bring in the financial fair play thingymabob.

And they're going to have a problem when it comes to contract renewals and future transfers, because the better players will want at least parity, if not more than what Toure is (allegedly) earning.

He's a player they don't need to be fair. They already have De Jong and Barry who are fine defensive midfielders, Toure barely possesses any quality that they don't have (except for the ability to play football that is uncommon to Barry, he's fine for a back-up though).

They should probably focus on bringing some width because it seems that Robinho won't stay for much longer and Silva isn't a natural winger, Petrov has already left and I don't think they have anyone else to play on the wing. Oh, they do have Wright-Phillips but he doesn't really count.

I thought the financial fair play has been approved and will affect the clubs in a year or two? How will they justify this then? Surely the dont expect their topline revenues to double or triple by then? Break-even in the next few years?

Barrys a little bit toilet to be fair.

How does the City fans feel about all this?

I guess the muppet element among their fans are loving it.

But, the more sensible ones, must be kacking it. If the owners pulled out, the costs of running the club would kill it!

Barry is far from a fine defensive midfielder. Which is why they are looking to strengthen. His limitations were brutally exposed in the World Cup.

Embaressing post. Carrick is quality. Anderson might come good. We have no reason to believe Hargreaves won't be ok. You missed out Fletcher as well.

Y. Toure.
K. Toure.

PL teams dont do first names on the back malarky.

hmm...

I think he is completely overrated. Fair play to him for getting so much money. City are mugs.

This deal is a disgrace.

If this doesn't convince the regulatory bodies that it's time to look into a salary cap, then nothing will and the game is doomed.

I must admit, I would never have imagined Toure as the highest paid player in the premiership.

What kind of precedent will it set for the players they sign who are actually really good?

No, no, no!

Won't work, and it should not be up to the authorities to tell anyone 1) how much they can earn and 2) how much a club can afford to pay the players.

It is the clubs' responsibility.

Exactly what I was thinking. How long till they get bored of their toy, especially if it unsuccessful? Knowing City they will somehow manage to bottle it. If they fail to qualify for the CL this coming season, there are bound to be rumblings in Abu Dhabi.

Kolo Toure gets paid more than Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans combined. :wenger:

It's clear such moves are to cause unnecessary inflation for other teams.

Hopefully, United at least, will just laugh at players referring to City's wages and tell players they'll get paid within United's wage structure - or play for someone else.

Yea. You can't dictate to players how much they are allowed earn. It's their right to get as much money as they can/

It's not a dick measuring competition. Just because they spunk obscene amounts on transfers and wages it doesn't mean we have to follow suit.

There's no prize for having the lowest sense:money ratio.

It's a possitive thing. This will without doubt stir up a lot of feelings in the City camp. No way are they gonna have it that Toure earns those kind of bucks if they perform better than him. Just watch it whenever he's having a day off, it will effect the whole team. It has happened before in other sports as well.

Let's just hope they get some sort of restriction on wages and transfers. It's becoming a bit ridiculous and at the end it's gonna be us having to pay it with fecking tv money and all that shit. It's already way over the top for me.

But they are irresponsible and therefore should be relieved of that responsibility.

Irresponsible actions should have concequenses. That will soon enough limit irresponsible actions.

And, the clubs would just find way round payment limitations.

Exactly. That people earn what they do for playing football is a fecking joke already and this latest news just defies belief.

Football needs a radical rethink about where it's priorities lie. In light of our shocking performance at the world cup I can see two priorities that would benefit society as a whole:

1 - Investing heavily in the youth set up

2 - Reducing prices for supporters

Both could be achieved by capping wages at 50 grand per week. feck me, 50 grand a week is already (still) ridiculous when compared to the average worker, even to the average highly paid worker.

It's immoral to reward individuals within football with such wages. We should be laying the foundations for the youth and ensuring that the country that loves football as much as it does is able to enjoy that football by not having to pay through the nose to follow their team and by being able to play the game on good pitches with good facilities etc

Perhaps, but if Platini has his way, it might not be that easy anymore.

His one initiative that on the surface I approve of and support.

It won't happen. It is impossible.

Move on.

Of course it's possible.

Stay where you are.

Clubs would be sued from here to eternity when they break the contracts.

And the top players would move on to the countries who wouldn't give a flying feck about such rules.
