I Iike Valencia. He's a hard working man, obviously. But I have to say he frustrates me a lot. He rarely overlaps when our wingers cut inside, he doesn't provide width and he barely crosses. Those three are very important qualities a modern fullback should have.

Our fullbacks are the reason our attacking play doesn't look fluent imo. People think it's because we don't have classic wingers but pretty much every top team doesn't have them, they play with inverted wingers. It's the fullbacks that do what a wingers used to do.
You make good points about Tony V but it can't be healthy for a team to buy 8 new first teamers in 1 summer to rebuild, surely players like Valencia will stay in this team for 2-3 years and allow Mourinho to purely rebuild the urgent areas this summer, and then next summer go for a third wave of transfers. 4 big players each window is productive, but 8 would remind me of Spurs when they sold Bale, or us when LVG came in.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
This is tough, but I'll play along  we'll all go back to this thread after the first game of next season.

Romero
Valencia---Bailly---Lindelof---Darmian
Herrera---Pogba
Mkhitaryan---Griezmann---Martial
Rashford

Subs: Lukaku, Mata, Lingard, Fellaini, Blind, Smalling, De Gea.
Transfer window closed end of August, and season starts around early August, so I assume if De Gea's leaving, it will last till the very end like last season. With that possibility of De Gea leaving, Mourinho would start with Romero instead. He did the same thing with Rooney and Ashley Young last January with the possibility of them leaving looming, not giving them games at all.

Darmian play to help the new guy defensively, and let Martial do all the attackings. Mkhi and Martial train well and had good pre-season matches thus starting, and Griezmann play straightaway because of his chemistry with Pogba and Martial. Lukaku starts on the bench and will be sub on.

Pure speculations mind.

Laporte - Bailly - Marquinhos
Fabinho - Weigl
B.Silva - Verratti - Pogba
Mbappe - Griezmann

Bench: Romero, Valencia, Rojo, Herrera, Rashford, Martial, Belotti

Squad players: Shaw, Darmian, Carrick, Mkhi
400 millions and all that, yet the strangest thing here is playing Laporte as a right a Marquinhos as a left center backs.

Romero has some league experience and has done well for us this season (though there's still the final to come :nervous: ), so him starting as number 1 wouldn't shock me.

Big question mark about Shaw, but I expect Darmian and Blind to move on so I've got him down hopefully after a promising pre-season, but otherwise a new left-back will probably be in place by then.

Keane for £30m with one of Smalling or Jones leaving for far less than that.

James seems destined to happen right now so I think he must start as he'll likely be the big signing of the summer.

Fellaini will start in case the opposition team has at least one tall player.

And finally it's Martial or Mkhitaryan, but I think the Frenchman might even possibly leave (I hope not) so Mkhitaryan seems a safer bet.

Even if we sign players, they'll be on the bench for the first game imo and introduced over the first few games from the bench.

Oh and DDG will go to boring old Madrid

Have absolutely no idea who we'll definitely bring in; even Keane's not dead certain. Griezmann, I think, won't join. Lot will depend on next Wednesday.

Romero; Valencia, Bailly, Keane, Shaw; Herrera, Pogba; Mkhitaryan, Mata, Martial; Rashford

There's two sides to this thread, those that expect us to make two 80 mill signings and those that think we won't sign shit after James even tho he'd be 40-50 at max and ddg is gonna go for more to them

If we get Champions League we'll definitely attract more class players.

De Gea
Valencia Bailly Keane Blind
Herrera Fabinho Pogba
Mkhitaryan Griezmann Rashford

Bench: Romero, Darmian, Tuanzebe, Fellaini, Martial, Rooney, Lingard.
Despite all the rumors I just can't see Rooney leave right now, with time I think he'll accept that he has declined and accept a squad-role. We might get one for the left back position.

Although we might see a couple more defenders if it's an away game.

DDG

Valencia - Bailey - Varane - Shaw

Ander Herrera - Pogba

Mhktitaryan - James - Martial

Griezmann

Couldn't think of any other centre back or left back to choose from, still believe Luke Shaw has a big future if had some trust placed in him.

----------------Romero--------------
Valencia - Bailly - Silva - Bertrand
--- Perreira -- Herrera -- Pogba ---
Mhki -------------------------Martial
---------------Lukaku---------------

Maybe a bit conservative - big one for me would be luring Silva from PSG. We're probably one of the few clubs that can match/increase his salary and PSG have had an awful season (by their standards).

Bertrqand is realsitic and a very good player - I think Shaw will struggle to ever win Jose's trust/stay fit + I don't want another young guy with potential in defence

Lukaku is realistic given he will move + feel it might be a tug of war with Chelsea/Man Utd for him.

Was just gonna ask, what makes everyone think Lukaku would choose us over Chelsea right now?

I see only 3 new signings this summer, but they will be big and important ones.

In:

Dier
Griezmann
Lukaku

Out:

Rooney
Carrick
Zlatan
Smalling or Jones

Starting 11, something like:

De Gea

(If Dave stays then he is obviously number 1. If he leaves then I'd be happy with promoting Romero to number 1 and bring up Joel Pereira to number 2)

Valencia
Bailly
Smalling/Rojo
Shaw/Blind

(I think one of Smalling/Jones leaves, but the rest stay. Could argue we need to strengthen at the back, but we have the second best defensive record in the league and Jose has made us hard to beat. I think the priority for this window is more goals. Then look at a long term replacement for Valencia and strengthen at CB next summer)

Dier
Herrera
Pogba

(Pogba starts every game, Jose seems to love Herrera (as do the fans) so I see him playing a big part. Carrick retires or leaves, Fellaini stays and is utilised in certain games as an important squad player. Would love us to sign Dier as the defensive midfielder that we have been missing for a while to complete the midfield.)

Griezmann
Lukaku
Mkhitaryan

(I think Griezmann is our number 1 target this summer, and I don't think Zlatan will stay on after his injury so Jose will look for a big/physical number 9 in Lukaku.)

The rest:

Rashford to stay and continue to progress, he has so much potential but I just don't see him being ready to lead the line week in,week out yet. He will still start and feature in plenty of games though. Mata to stay and similar to this season make a solid contribution, starting plenty of games but not being a regular every week.

Lingard to continue with a squad role.

Not too sure what happens to Martial in the above, would love him to stay and get plenty of game time as per Rashford, but not sure if he will be happy with that.

What I'd like from being realistic,

De Gea, Kyle Walker, Bailly, Lindelof, Danny Rose, Herrera, Eric Dier, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Alexis Sanchez in a 4-3-3

Have Romero, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Fosu-Mensah, Blind, Carrick, Fellaini (just don't see Jose selling him), Mata, Lingard, Martial and Lukaku all as back up with Darmian, Jones, Young, Januzaj, Rooney, Zlatan and a few fringe reserves all being sold or let go.

This thread is one of the funniest I've seen in quite a while. Some of the line ups are straight up delusional lol (looking at the guy with Belotti on the bench).

If you think about it, based on attrition and performance of the current squad, an overhaul of at least 8 first team players is what we need though reality and practicality won't let it happen.

I think mourinho will do something similar to last season. Target man, creative/attacking midfielder, CM/DM, one defender and last but not least, he'll have to replace de gea. That's 5 first team players.

The defender one is pretty tricky because I reckon, left to him, only Bailly would start in his back 4. Especially with Rojo out long term but I think he'll only get one and as unfair as it sounds, it'll be to replace Valencia.

All that said, here goes First team for next season.
Belotti
greizmann
miki
pogba
Herrera
Fabinho
Shaw
smalling
Bailly

I'm not sure but if I don't see 5 new starters we won't be winning the league. We need to get rid of the LVG MOyes players
