I've heard he bowls at 90 mph consistently. But given how wonderfully we take care of our pacers I wouldn't be surprised if a year at the international level turns him into a 75-80 mph bowler.
I don't know if the English people here are aware but Munaf Patel used to bowl at 90 mph when he broke into the team. He actually made his very impressive debut against England in test matches and his speed has been on the downhill since. Now he's a friggin medium pacer

Ashwin needs to be given time, he's been poor when playing for India, but in the IPL he regularly gets good batsmen out(Gilchrist, Gayle, etc). After Malinga, he's the best T20 bowler in the world.
