Sanctity, like a cat, abhors filth.
I dont want to get into bigging up one player by belittling another. Both Welbeck and Chicharito are very good players that will keep on improving, bringing different things to the team. Id like to see Chicharito get more game time than he did last season but that does not mean I want to see Welbeck marginalised. There will be plenty of games for them both given we will be challenging on four fronts this season.

Fergie seems pretty happy starting with 3 strikers at the moment so I do think Hernandez will get more games in the coming weeks.

You need more to your game than just goals at the highest level. This is why Hernandez is putting in the work to add to his repertoire.
But you also need score a lot of goals at the highest level. This is why Welbeck is working on his finishing

And you also need to score goals consistently at the highest level. Which is why I'd have Hernandez all day over him.

No doubt. He's been playing from a wide position quite a lot this season though as we've got two other players who are quite decent at the 'scoring a lot of goals' thing. As good as Hernandez is, he doesn't have this flexibility.

And you also need to score goals consistently at the highest level. Which is why I'd have Hernandez all day over him.
We have Rooney and RvP, so we're not exactly short in that department. I'll be surprised if these two plus one of Welbeck/Hernandez play in the bigger matches but there you go.

In the more routine league matches it's a case of take your pick. I wouldn't complain with either tbh.

My point was that after one excellent match yesterday, people seem to have forgotten the last 12 months or so with Hernandez. If he keeps up yesterday's level of performance for a few games then it'll be fantastic.

Hernandez scored the same number of goals as Welbeck last season despite playing far less minutes. So he wasn't terrible by any means.

IMO we looked better with Welbeck in the team last season.
And we looked better the season before that with Rooney behind Hernandez. It got us to a European Cup final and won us a league.

Completely this.

However it is more and more Welbeck v Hernandez on here these days, and they are two very different types of striker, and both offer us something very positive.

I think we look good either way and both RVP and Rooney will love playing alongside either Welbeck or Hernandez when it happens.

Perhaps thats the best thing about our forward line at the moment, all of our strikers bring things to the team that their strike partners can feed off of. Whereas when we had someone like Ruud, it was all about feeding him rather than what he could do for a strike partner in return.

Didn't win us much though did it?
I think our defence and midfield issues might have had a part to play in that. Don't you?

Firstly, Hernandez wasn't quite at the same level last season. Secondly, City were a far tougher opponent than that Chelsea side - and we had played them and the mighty Schalke on the way to that CL final, so it wasn't exactly a great side that we had ourselves. There's no doubt that we were stupidly complacent in the group stage last season but I don't think that Hernandez would've made much difference as we weren't creating chances that he would've been able to thrive on. Again, I think our midfield and defence let us down way more than any of our strikers.

They're both potentially super players and are more than contributing to our good start to the season (results wise anyway). Let's just leave it at that.

I'm worried Ferguson might now think its a good idea to play Rooney, RVP, Hernandez and Welbeck in the same team :nervous:

RVP seems to be the perfect partner for him up front.
I have the same feeling. RVP gets more space when Cheech gets in behind the defence.

 they both have their qualities and detriments.
True, but I think we benefit more from Hernandez.

Hernandez has proven he can score 20+ goals a season when he's played regularly. Welbeck hasn't.
Exactly. And Cheech has scored in some of the biggest games we've had since he has been here.

One again spot on. I bet if you asked Rooney who he likes playing with more he'd say Hernandez because he allows more room for him to work with.

I don't get the argument for starting Welbeck ahead of him. If you're worried that much about link up play, why not play another attacking midfielder?

good game last night but he and welbeck should only play when Rooney/Van Persie are injured/rotated....

playing Hernandez, Rooney and RVP was to the detriment to the team last night I felt

I'm still trying to figure out how he spun his body so fast to score today! That was like Michael Jackson in 'Moonwalker'! The great thing about Chico is he doesn't just score goals he scores crucial goals. Today, Braga, last year at Stamford Bridge and Anfield. Ever since the winner at Stoke in his first season he's been getting the goals at the times we've really needed them. 9 times out of 10 he'll find a way when the chips are down. Definition of a big game player.

Second top scorer for us this season! How many times has he played again!?

Its true, look at the Chelsea player's reactions... Hernandez was light years ahead. But thats all down to mentality. Hernandez believes every ball across the box has his name on it so he didnt react, he predicted and more often than not he's correct when it comes to goalscoring chances.

This guy ...
So much energy and drive. It's like he was born to play for United. The finish is great, it's not that easy to react so quick when the ball comes to your feet with pace

Delighted for him. Longterm I think he'll have to leave to get regular football. Its hilarious that teams like Arsenal and Liverpool are crying out for such a player, and he rarely starts for us.

If he played for Arsenal I genuinely feel they'd be title contenders. He'd have so much fun in that set up which is all geared towards playing in a central striker...

...that we bought in the summer! :p

I hope he never leaves. Certainly loves the club more than enough for that to be the case :)
