To people who think Obama is left, yeah. By our standards you're still very much a centre right country. You just avoided being a far right one.

You still have guns, bastardised healthcare and the death penalty. If you think that's left then Britain is a Communist utopia.
Obama is the most conservative of the last three Democratic presidents.

carter was the most liberal..followed by Clinton and then Obama being the least liberal. That is why all this socialist communist stuff is so laughable.

As for the guns....it is part of our culture and will never go away. But so far no one has had the guts to pass laws that get rid of assault weapons from private ownership...or at least learn from our Canadian neighbors.

EDIT: We now have universal health care..even the GOP has finally accepted that...and it will get better. The death penalty varies states to state. For example no death penalty here and in Wisconsin.

Why does he keep saying "we still don't know where the President was on the night of the Benghazi attack"? Does he think Obama did it or summat?

The Krauthammer is on tomorrow. I still haven't seen him move. Suspicious.

you would be surprised by how many educated people who spout this.

you cannot srgue...just shake your head and move on.

Look. in 5 years the vast majority will love what they deride as Obamacare.
This...I always felt that once they got it, they'd wonder why they waited so long.

Obama will go down in history for his healthcare victory.....among many other things!

I'm not. The misconception of socialism in the US has a veeery long precedent. Remnant of the Cold War I suppose. But still annoying as hell.

I actually blame the Democrats for it, as they've tacitly allowed it to become a dirty word. No one of any real prominence has had the balls to stand up and say "yeah, I actually am supporting some socialist aspects of policy that are perfectly compatible in a capitalist country" for fear of the word ruining them.

I completely agree that Obamacare will be a success. It's, well, you know, affordable healthcare. Why wouldn't you be for affordable healthcare?

You know that Hannity is too chickenshit to go on Maher's show though.
Has he been invited?

Wouldn't surprise me for a second though. He's the kind of guy that is only comfortable in his own lair, where he sets the rules. Put him in a proper debate format, for example, and he'll fail miserably, I guarantee it.

He's just a little bitch.

Yeah. The Right are currently going nuts about some poll where 30% of young people or something say they prefer socialism to free enterprise.

What they apparently haven't worked out is that after spending their whole lives confronted with conservative propaganda, lots of young people think 'socialism' means things like marginal tax rates for billionaires exceeding 20%, or everyone in the richest country on earth getting half-decent medical care.

Socialism!

The same is true for the term conservative though. And yes, it's silly.

btw there was a poll recently that said 11% of Americans would be happy with a communist government.

I wonder if they truly understand what communism is.
No, because they don't know what communism is. Or socialism or fascism or damn near any other ism.

agree.

I was thinking ahead to 2016....and if I were to vote a for a republican, I would feel comfortable voting for Chuck Hagel.

on the democrat side Jim Webb.

Think both men would be able to bring the country together without any problem.

After seeing Stewart tonight I can't help but wonder if he'll now dispense with the act of rolling his eyes at Billo like a mildly racist uncle and stop being all pally with him.

They could call it now but if the final count is under 0.5% difference it triggers and automatic recount.

That actually seemed genuine. He always came across as a good guy who went into politics to try and be a better politician despite being surrounded by useless hacks of all political leanings.
they will obviously write a book after he leaves office....

what an amazing story it will be.

it will I hope also mirror the greatness of this country....

only in America....

Anyof you see Hannity's tonight?

Apparently the Iranians threatened a US UAV in international waters, somehow Hannity and his guest felt that this would have influenced the election. They also claimed that the Pentagon colluded with the White House in suppressing the information till now.

Many Americans are like a good deal more concerned about UAVs flying near their homes, not the Persian Gulf.
