Not a complete cock, just really young.
No matter how many times I read this:

I'm still unable to wrap my head around it... that's an ungodly size for a GTA style environment...
I've only played RDR very briefly, and one of the things that put me off it was the barren wasteland they called a game world. To be bigger than that, SA (which I don't remember too well) and GTA4 will be some effort, although I do foresee a whole lot of desert/mountain range which won't add much to the game. I remember one of the games where I had a plane/chopper and/or jetpack and I went right out into the sticks, and it was a bit boring really. There was nothing there at all, and it took quite a while to get anywhere. So I hope they try develop plenty of it. It has the potential to be the best GTA game ever. So you'd expect really after so long.

I can't say I buy many games. It's Fifa annually, and COD usually gets bought for me around christmas, and that's about it (although I tend to play the feck out of the former), but I really am looking forward to this.

EDIT: I also hope they do a good job of the radio. One thing I loved about VCS was the return of Maurice Chavez! His programme genuinely had me laughing, and every time I got in a vehicle that would go on, I could practically recite it by the end. But this was when I was too young to really like/appreciate any 80s music. I'd quite like to play them again to see what they had on; I'm sure there's actually quite a lot I liked.

The "barren wasteland" in RDR was beautifully made and absolutely necessary to give a genuine western feel to the game.

I also saw nothing wrong with San Andreas landscape. The size was big enough to make planes realistically useful and even if you were stranded on the ground there were plenty of vehicles, ramps and funny spots scattered around.

Of course if "not boring" for you means plenty of heads to shoot then yeah, I get your point.

That was one of my favourite things about RDR I have to say... riding through the wilderness properly submerged me into the environment, and really made me feel like I was *in* a Western... if that makes sense!

I can see why it would put people off... I mean it is a lot of nothing, but ultimately, as it was a Western at the end of the day, all that barren land was sort of neccesary to give it the correct feel.

By 'not boring' I mean not acres of nothingness.

I understand that people like RDR for the wasteland, as it was like being out west, but I don't like Western stuff. Don't like cowboy stuff, don't like what I presume is their culture or anything about them. It's how I imagine Americans would view Gateshead.

Disagree with Liam. I loved getting 'lost' in the barren lands of SA and RDR. Gave it a more realistic feel and I enjoyed being all on my own in the woods in SA. Was cool when I lost my car and had to make my way out of the woods.

Sanctity, like a cat, abhors filth.
Absolutely. I was playing RDR on a friend's PS3, we went up to the top of a mountain and looked out across the horizon, I was completely blown away by the graphics. That was the exact moment I decided I wanted a PS3 (having a young kid at around that time, and having stopped playing my PS2, I had decided I probably wouldnt play it enough to justify getting one).

Looks action-packed. Love it. Will definitely be crazier than IV.

To be fair amolb it was a year ago.

Wow it doesn't feel like that long ago. It has been a year right?
Just seen it. I saw it at the time too but for some reason it didn't quite register. It has been a year.

So who is the main character? Is it the muscle for the guy in the suit?

I'm keeping my mind open to the idea at this juncture. Ultimately, we don't really know how it will all work exactly when we come to play the game... who know's, all 3 could be fantastic characters and it could be a good way to make the game feel huge!

Even if it does fail, I still give them credit for trying to do something new at least...

Looks like they're throwing in every big Hollywood action scene ever.

Going to be amazing.

I really don't like the idea of having more than one main character.

That trailer looks awesome though.
Agreed. It could turn out to be an amazing idea, but there's something quality in GTA about fecking up/running a whole city with just your one guy. Perhaps the game is so vast that having just one character would be untenable.

Trailer looks unreal.

Apologies if it's already been answered, but who's the playable character?

I'm taking this with a pinch of salt. It looks impressive, but so did GTA IV. And GTA IV was a shitpile on an otherwise fantastic series.

I think it'll be awesome. Each ones different so you play different with them. It didn't make sense that Niko was this slick hitman but you'd go on a rocket launching killing spree with him.
Hope the black guy has some gangster elements. Looks like the balding fella is the nutter who loves fire and the other one is the rich, cool guy.

Never played GTA IV...was it really that bad? My mates were absolutely raving and raving about the story of it when it came out.

Generally it was really well received, but a lot of people disliked the move to a more serious tone. I thought it was awesome.

The story in IV wasn't great. I never liked Niko. The expansions had better plots (Ballad of Gay Tony)

Agree. I thought he was the best character as well. It's just the music that was shit.

I liked it. But it didn't have the charm of SA, partly down to being restricted to the city like I mentioned before, IMO.

GTA IV took all the progress made by Vice City (dialogue, characters, soundtrack) and San Andreas (map size, variety of terrain and general gameplay features) and chucked them aside to make way for a graphics fest. Which is fine for some, except IV's graphics looked like someone took a picture of New York and put "sepia tone" on it in photoshop.

The characters were boring, the map was bland, the soundtrack was the least exciting since GTA III, the multiplayer was inferior to SA-MP (an unofficial mod which is still more active than IV's.) I'm staying skeptical because IV was such a let down.

They should put some original songs in this one to bring some of the charm back in that regard

Seeing as they are cutting back on an A-List cast they should at least have a good fecking soundtrack this time around.

Yeah that's how I feel, the fun of GTA is the fact you're thrown into this huge game and it's you versus this world and that could be diluted by taking control of three characters.

It certainly won't stop me buying it and if it's done well it could be good but at the moment it just seems like an added complication that nobody really asked for.
