The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Ferrari had a competitive car that season. Lewis Hamilton absolutely bottled it at China. Massa, was probably the faster driver of the two by the end of the season.

In 2008, Massa was simply superior to Kimi.

That is all we need to know about Kimi. Got out-muscled on and off the track by Massa.

Who was also an excellent driver back then and should've probably won a world title. The Ferrari may have been more competitive but he still did an excellent job in it.

You never get penalised for incidents in L1, there's too much going on.

Pat Fry has said the flag was yellow and red, indicating a slippery track, rather than yellow flags. I've no idea, though.

I thought it was a yellow flag, what about the first lap crash.
If Hulkenburg deserved a drive though, why not Vettel?

Vettel should have 2 penalties, will get none and wins the title by cheating and thanks to having an insane amount of luck and easily the best car for large parts of the season.

that's just an outright lie, Maldonado, Grosjean and others have definitely been punished for first lap crashes.

the replay on Sky it shows a yellow light glaring out over them as Vettel goes past...

Next season is going to be a tough one for Lewis, cant see the Mercedes being able to fight for the top spots.
Will be an interesting season thats for sure.

Yup, at max I say he'll get to 4th place in the championship.

Gif of that Alonso look please? :(

So this Vettel under yellow flags is the new Glock let Hamilton through I see.

It's not a lie at all, don't be so fecking dramatic, perhaps 'never' was too strong, but Stewards give far far more leniency during first lap incidents, and it was a racing incident, which wasn't worthy of a penalty anyway. Senna himself called it a racing incident, too, by the way.

@MBrundleF1
To answer many it appears the warning lights were red and yellow for slippery track not yellow so nothing to answer for Vettel.

To all the people claiming Vettel overtook under a yellow - if that were true why the feck would Ferrari do nothing about it?

Why wouldn't Race Control investigate it firstly, people are clutching at straws which aren't even there.

You'd fancy it to be the same cars fighting it out again for the most part.

I really don't see Mercedes turning things around for next season, perhaps 2014.

who is going to stop The Finger making it 4 in a row.
Alonso is the main threat. I think.
What about Lewis, can he challenge if Mercedes can pull a decent car together?

Jesus, it's way to early to predict. No one will know anything until that first test in Jerez on the 5th February so I wouldn't worry yet.

I don't think there is any chance of Mercedes suddenly scrambling together a title winning car. Hamilton in a McLaren car with increased reliability would have been a contender, For now I think it will be down to Alonso or actually Ferarri. I think it will be too much for Alonso to pull off another season like this from this kind of car. They need to deliver a car which is equal to RBR.

I like Jake, he's done a good job and is going to take some replacing.

Quite a coincidence that his baby is due on the same day the 2013 season starts!

Seriously, some people need to get a grip. I don't have a favourite in F1 these days and I'm just happy it was a great race. For some people to hope that it's decided after the race because of an appeal and all that, or talking about how lucky/unworthy Vettel is... pathetic.

Who's hoping? I'm not but I would like to see an explanation as to why normal rules didn't apply in this case.

Did you watch the video, Amir? He overtakes under a yellow flag. Some people are hoping he gets punished, but others are simply wondering why he seems to have got away with it.

To be honest he seems to go for it once the Green Flag is shown, then next time when it's yellow he's more or less past him, I'm not sure but I know if there was an issue it would have been dealt with swiftly by race control.

I would be surprised if Mercedes contend, which is a shame for Hamilton as he does deserve to be up there. Maybe the year after.

I think it'll be the same two again. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the now new McLaren seat. I haven't really been up to date so any news on that?

More or less past isn't past though is it and as soon as that yellow flag is seen he should back out of it and concede position even if it means he has to slow down on a flatout section, else whats the point of having any rules for the yellow flag?

It really wouldn't be good for the sport should such a thing change the result of a WDC anyway, but still it certainly looks like they missed that decision.

Sergio Perez is replacing Hamilton at McLaren, they announced it just after he signed for Mercedes.

Interestingly Perez hasn't done anything but crash or underperform since.

I don't give a rats ass. If there's a punishment, it should be at the time of the race. Not wait until the end and then appeal when there's nothing more Vettel can do, like some people were hoping.

The stewards have confirmed to Martin Brundle that it was a yellow and red flag for a slippery surface.

Maybe the lights were wrong? The flags were yellow and red but the lights were done wrong? feck knows, but if Ferrari are satisfied that it was a yellow and red flag then it must have been.

So do you have the same feelings regarding retrospective red cards in football? By your reckoning the 8 match ban handed out by the fa to Ben Thatcher for his assault on Pedro Mendes shouldnt have been given, theres a reason why when the race finishes its called a 'provisional race result', put simply he broke a rule and should be punished, if its after the race and causes him to lose the title then so be it, what if the pass had happened on the last lap? Do they just ignore it because the race has finished?
