Its obvious that Jose Mourinho has wanted the top job at Manchester United for a long time. And many of the clubs fans also wanted him to replace SAF. However, these past 24 hours indicate that in fact David Moyes will be appointed as the next Manchester United manager.

If I were Jose Mourihno, I think i'd be feeling many emotions, none of them good ones!

What do you think is going through his minds this past 24 hours and also if Moyes is appointed?
Who gives a feck what Mourinho thinks? He does a fine job humiliating the club whenever he leaves. Great manager, but would be happy if we didn't have to deal with his constant BS.

If it's for Ronaldo, we win. If it's for Mourinho, we win. This is what they call a win-win situation.

It has been confirmed that Gill has travelled to Madrid. The media says it's for Ronaldo, is it not more likely that it's for Mourinho?
Confirmed by who?

And what makes people so sure that if Mourinho has to pick between United and Chelsea, he'd pick us?

Not a complete cock, just really young.
I'm going with: "feck them. I'll never manage that club. Off to a happy decade of success with Chelsea."

It's been plain for a while that he's wanted this job, and I bet he feels a bit shafted because of it. He's hardly going to hang around, and when he does go to Chelsea, why would he leave them to come to us? Roman won't make the same mistake twice. He's had nearly a decade of uncertainty thanks to sacking Mourinho. He won't do it again.

Because going to Chelsea there is still the Roman factor. Chelsea would also need a major personnel overhaul to fit his style and I don't mean the old guard but the new one, that would be popcorn stuff, Mourinho telling Abramovich he needs X new players and the ones going are all reltively recent "coups", + Torres.

I think this is close.

Surprised by the response by some on here. According to our very own poll, nearly 50% of redcafe posters want Mourinho as our next manager. If he is not appointed, its not his fault ... he has pretty much done everything in his power to signal his interest!

I want him to take over (looks v unlikely now). And in a way, I feel very sorry for him. I think he had his heart set on the job and is very well qualified for it. And so I can see him being abit devastated that he is being passed over. Especially if its because SAF has sanctioned to move for Moyes ahead of him. despite being supremely self confident, I cant help but think his confidence will take abit of a knock.

Last, if he does turn up at Chelsea as expected, he will be extra motivated to beat us. A bitter and scorned Mourinho is quite a prospect!

A source close to Guardiola and Mourinho said: “This just doesn’t make sense. Alex Ferguson was really clear to Pep and Jose that he would be staying at United for at least a couple of years. It is a job he knew both wanted and he thought it best to let them know what was happening.--The Sun
How's Jose feeling? I can imagine, with Pep, a sense of shock and horror.

Well Jose has also made it clear he would love to go back to Chelsea, especially over the last few weeks. So I really can not see that he is going to be that bothered by it all, it does seem he has his plan in place and it doesn't include Manchester United.

Bollocks, he has been passed over for Moyes. Given the choice between the two jobs Mourinho would be at utd in a heartbeat. His shameless flirting after the great robbery of old trafford made that clear.

So United fans keep saying, but he has never said anything to that effect. He has however said that he loves Chelsea and wanted to come back one day.

Come on, be serious

Without meaning to be arrogant, we're Man United and you're Chelsea. If you're a manager above all you want to test yourself at Madrid, Milan, Bayern, United. Maybe Liverpool when they're not shite.

I think it was already sorted. That's why Lampard is wanting to stay. He might get a shock.

That's the point though, he has had some big jobs and has managed to annoy his employers with his attitude. How long before he did the same here and brought embarrassment on the club. It's bad enough when the players do things they shouldn't without a manager being as bad in a verbal sense.

United fans and the media have consistently overstated his desire to one day manage at Old Trafford, imo. I'm sure he would want the job, but it is not the "above all else" obsession for him that seems to be the consensus on here.

Interesting that this place was buzzing in the immediate hours after Ferguson resigned in the hope that you would pip us at the post for his services, the vast majority of RedCafe voters wanted him as the favourite and the place ground to a halt when there was a rumoured PM doing the rounds confirming that he was in talks, but now that Moyes has been appointed it's very much being seen as a bullet dodged.

If we get Mourinho and you get Moyes, I will be absolutely over the moon.

If you get Mourinho I think you should be favourites for the title next season.

City should be favourites for the title next season, really. They've got a better squad than Chelsea, even if their manager is a bit clueless.

"AS and Récord are both claiming that Mourinho was in fact Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice but that the Portuguese coach turned United down.

Spanish and Portuguese publications AS and Récord both claim his family's desire to move to London as the reason Mourinho turned United down"
Thought it would be inexplicable to go to Moyes as your first choice

You believe that as gospel because it makes you happy? Look up what Bobby Charlton said on who the next United manager should be, clearly not Jose Mourinho.

For one Mourinho's 'camp' have said that nobody ever talked to him about the job.

He also said the next United manager should have extensive European experience, didn't he?

Portugeuse papers saying that they offered him a 5 year deal. I've been told for years how obsessed Jose was with taking over from SAF - it would be amusing if it turned out to be a load of egocentric fantasy all along.

Yeah, there's no place for egocentric fantasy in a Mourinho thread.

Why would they offer him 5 and Moyes 6?

He turned down the biggest job in football because he fancied London? Yeah, ok.

We are a club that believes that 'stability is the foundation of success'. Thus we offered the job firstly to a fellow who has never lasted more than three years at a club.

That said, 'stability is the foundation of success', is probably just convenient soundbite after Mourinho told us to do one. I can see absolutely no reason why Manchester United would buy into such an ethos.

Managers returning and failing is a media myth. Look at the Bayern coach. Pretty sure Guardiola wouldn't fail if he returned to the Barca job today.... It will probably be never certain if we approached Mourinho. His ego would never allow him to say "I was rejected" and we won't say "Moyes was second choice" either.
