Real would be mad to sell Özil....even with Isco coming in. The guy makes things happen, he breaks deadlock with his scheming. He was their best player over two legs against us, particularly at the Bernabeu.

Where would he go? Bayern, City and Chelsea are stocked with attacking playmakers. Wenger would take him in a flash, Dortmund have just bought an attacking midfielder. Leaves the Italian clubs I suppose.

United should be interested but the stench of Rooney hangs over everything.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Considering that Ancelotti played a 4-2-2-2 last season with PSG I could see the following formation happening.

Casillas
Carvajal--Varane--Ramos--Marcelo
Alonso--Illarramendi
Özil--Isco
Benzema--Ronaldo

This way he could fit in Isco and Özil like he did with Lucas Moura and Pastore at PSG last season.

Alonso only has a year left on his contract and isn't expected to renew with Madrid. Madrid's preference is for him to play his contract out and give them time to rebuild the midfield. So he'll only go if someone pays and he really wants the move.

To us? He's 31, he's slowing down, he's getting niggling injuries - not really a good match for us.

The Spanish press think Mourinho would like to take him to Chelsea.
Also doesn't Alonso has pumbalgia? The same chronic problem as Kaka?

I don't think modric is for sale and I don't think he wants to leave real....xabi alonso got ripped apart by dortmund and thats why he's for sale but I definitely wouldn't say no to him but with his liverpool link it's unlikely he will come to us

They tried "managing it" last year, but he's had an operation for the pubalgia now. How successful I guess we won't know until around March sometime.
Yes, but this problem seems to be quite persistent. Kaka had a few surgeries if I'm not mistaken, and still has a few problems. Kinda like they can manage, but not fix it. Of course, I may be talking bullocks, maybe Dr. Dwayne could assist us here.

I may be way off base here, but I'm sensing you don't like Wayne. :smirk:

To be honest Will there are not many footballers I really like.....or have much respect for indeed. I suppose the "stench" I refer to is the whole continuing saga that drags on post 2010. I thought Rooney had turned a corner from 2011 and his form that year was terrific, but he constantly manages to be an insecurity for the club. Ferguson bought Kagawa last year and played him anywhere but his best position, Rooney and his sporadic form generally got the nod behind or next to Van Persie. If top quality like Mesut Ozil are available the stench needs to be febreezed once and for all....stay or go...but the club should not neglect the opportunity to sign outrageous playmaking talent for the sake of harbouring an underperforming, arguably fading and divisive star. Or if we do sign the talent...a la Kagawa...then for goodness sake give him a chance to prove he can be a better option than Wayne Rooney.

There is some unease amongst some surrounding United's progression right now, Rooney is at the heart of it. He has the look of someone who wants to be anywhere but Old Trafford.

They've released Carvalho as well haven't they? Aren't they a little thin in the center back department now? Have they been linked with brining in any center backs?

They'll be down to 4 players, one of whom has little to no experience (Fernandez). So I imagine they'll bring in another CB.
Varane, Raphaël

Defence (CB), 20 Years
Pepe

Defence (CB), 30 Years
Ramos, Sergio

Fernández, Nacho

Could be another Barca - Madrid transfer head to head, this time for Thiago Silva?

I think they'll bring in backup as their first choice pairing would be Varane and Ramos. Who knows with Madrid though!

A Real Madrid supporting mate told me he thinks they signed Casemiro as a player they could covert into a centre back. Mind you, I think he suggested it on the basis of nothing more substantial than he's more of a natural fit for centreback than Mascherano is.

His other theory was that if we wanted to swap Vidic for Khedira they were ready and waiting. I told him Vidic was part of the Fabregas deal

Just thinking but surely with the acquisitions of Isco and Illarramendi, Modric will get feck all game time. We should get on that ASAP.

There's somebody for sale from their midfield - we just don't know who, not for sure.

They'd love to sell Kaka, but his wages are too high and we don't need him.

Ozil is negotiating a contract extension.

Khedira and Modric?

Ozil: I've still not decided about a contract renewal yet. It's nice that Madrid want to renew my contract - it's a vote of confidence in me. I can imagine retiring as a Madrid player, but I can imagine taking another route.
(The original is in SportBild and I'm looking at a Spanish summary - apologies for anything lost in double translation)

Which brings me back to last week's Spanish rumour - that a PL club were preparing a 50m joint bid for two RM players, who sounded very much like Khedira and Ozil

I am surprised how many people would take Khedira but don't like the idea of Gustavo!?

Di Maria would be both attainable and fitting to our style.

So it looks like we are being heavily linked to Modric in Spain - could this be why Woodward is flying back?

Nah. They only need 4 center backs really so add one and keep Nacho as the fifth and they're good. Not close to being Barca who only have the two center backs and one of them is 35.

Either would be good. Khedira is a no-nonsense and hard working player. A bit like Fletcher. I'm not that familiar with Gustavo's work ethic and professionalism but I imagine it's good as well.

Negredo to City has earned Madrid another 4.4m Euros, bringing their summer income so far to 25m (with Callejon and Albiol to Napoli)

They are still hoping to pick up 10m (from us buying Garay), 35m+ for Higuain, 25m for Coentrao (who needs a LB?)

Plus any suitably high bids for (most of) the others.

Is Di Maria for sale, Jo?

I'd have him here.

I think whoever gets Di Maria when Real sell him this summer will be lucky. Unless Real play ronaldo as a striker and keep Di Maria...I don't think Bale is that much better than Di Maria apart from having a better shot on goal of course

Ozil? I'm a huge fan but don't we have Kagawa who plays that no.10 role.

What we need is a deeper playmaker who can play alongside Carrick, not sure Ozil is that man.

There were rumours about this a month or so back. Someone was supposed to be preparing to bid for Ozil + Khedira, but that story vanished when we started chasing Fabregas.

Of course this may be the Modric story reappearing with a more Madrid-tempting offer figure.

Gustavo (given his age) would be ideal and a decent backup to Carrick since talk of Modric is now on the cards once again.

We need 2 midfielders to strengthen our squad fully.
