Fair enough, the whole van Gaal spell at Barca became a disaster in 99 (and was far from perfect before). Still can't believe that they actually brought van Gaal back for a 2nd spell after he failed so miserably with the Dutch nationalteam.

De Boer was world-class in Ajax and the Dutch national team and his peak performance as an individual was 1998 so he deserves all the cred in the world.

He just never lived up to being XXX's heir. Pace was probably not a huge difference but physically the gap was horrendous. Agree on Cocu and Kluivert, it was the wide players which were pointless, one even went on to steal a living at Chelsea
