Suarez bites | "sorry for falling into him and biting him and that"

I'm not sure the FA gets to sanction a player based on the World Cup. I personally don't like the idea because they would be punished twice in that case.

The FA didn't cite the Bakkal incident in their report when he bit Ivanović and they didn't reserve any judgement to extend the sanctions - so I don't think they will get to ban him in English competitions.

Still, I think there's an oddity here where Suárez wouldn't be banned for Uruguay's matches like the Copa América, because it is organised by CONMEBOL. Suárez could only be banned in competitions like the World Cup (qualifying and Finals) and Club World Cup.
Whats the point then? I don't think international matches would be there now for the next 6 months.

Also, I am going on a tangent here, but FIFA did ban Simunic from football entirely (including stadiums) for rallying his team and country. Even though it's a different case altogether, but they already have set a precedent. And this is basically an unprovoked assault in a football match.

Look at his username and remember who is in for Suarez.

Right and wrong goes out the window when it's one of your players, or potentially anyway.

Well if he played for Barcelona FCBarca would be saying that he actually did Chiellini a favour by biting him, knowing him.

Sergio Biscuit won't like this.

just aksing..cause this stupid behaviour could also effect an transfer, couldnt it?
ifg i would be a barca fan , i would say please no to that guy.
also they don´t realy need him (for this price... its the most expensive animal you can get)

Nutcase.

He wasn't provoked or anything. FIFA/FA need to take a stand against Suarez now. He is deserving of a severe punishment and I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get one. This is a repeated offence of a cannibalistic nature. Lots of kids watching global and Suarez decides he'll be having a bit of Chiellini's shoulder. Disgraceful.

I'm not sure but I think Šimunić was banned from international football only.

What makes you 'think' FIFA don't have the power to impose worldwide ban? They have full authority and power to impose worldwide ban across competitions on a player, if needed.
I may be wrong but I dont think they would just make decisions for our FA, its their turf.

Hahaha - the referee for the Italy v Uruguay game is nicknamed "Little Dracula", he's a Protestant minister in his spare time.

People calling for him to "get help".

He had "help" at Liverpool over the past season, it was part of the agreement with the PFA/FA if I remember correctly. What he needs is a proper punishment, last time was clearly not enough. Half the games he missed were irrelevant to the team, nothing games. People are treating him as if some "red mist" descends and he loses control, I don't buy that for one minute. He's a habitual cheat who has gone to the extent of biting to try and gain an advantage over his opponent. Throw the book.
I share the same view when things are going well fair enough but its like yesterday when Italy were on the brink of qualifying defenders getting the better of him he does that. When I think of the amount of animals particularily dogs that are put down when they have been mistreated or provoked so put Suarez down....down to club level where he cant play at international level ever again but stipulate that at club level in any competition he will receive a lifetime football ban if he does it again.Barring that a 4 or 5 year probation let him walk the disciplinary tightrope without the safety net.

Best part: "Asked about the alleged bite, Suarez told Uruguayan television after the game: "There are things that happen on the pitch and you should not make such a big deal out of them. It was just the two of us inside the area and he bumped into me with his shoulder."

Damn that Chielini he bumped him with the shoulder in the same time Suarez accidentally opened his mouth...

I'd maybe feel a little sorrier for him if he wasn't also a proven racist.

It's a bit of a pain to bring this up yet again .. as it has nothing to do with the latest incident. However the FA specifically said he is not a racist but the words he used constituted racism - for which he was duly punished.

The guy you quoted is talking nonsense. FIFA have full authority to impose world wide bans. CONMEBOL, FA, UEFA...doesnt matter. What they will actually do is another matter.

I'm not sure but I think Šimunić was banned from international football only.
Yep, 10 match ban from international football and on those 10 matches he cannot even enter the stadium. However he could play for his club.

I do think it seems unfair. Imagine if a player who wasn't good enough for his national team did something very serious like punch someone unconscious in a Club World Cup match. He would in effect only be banned for Club World Cup matches.

You are indeed wrong. The game in each country is run the its FA, which in turn is affiliated to FIFA. Any decision taken by FIFA is binding on each FA.

you're a Liverpool supporter right?

Yeah, the Barca fans are very much like the Liverpool ones when it comes to their club and anything controversial.
I know a few of them and they are likely to defend their players regardless of the extent of the offence. Diving is almost habitual it seems.

I agree, blown out of proportion and whipped up by our ridiculous media. He referred to Evra as a negro or negrito on the pitch, big deal. If he'd called me a caucasian wasp soab I'd have brushed it off. The biting is way more serious.

 some golden bollocks being spewed out in this thread.

It has nothing to do with turf. FIFA has power to impose worldwide ban. Otherway is not true of course. So FA cant force a ban in other competitions outside their turf but I think everyone must be clear on that.

The Uruguayans seem to be very jingoistic. Racism and cannibalism must be quite common occurence there then.

Comedy gold.

From the Daily Mail :

"FIFA's statement said: 'FIFA can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the player Luis Suarez of Uruguay following an apparent breach of article 48 and/or article 57 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the World Cup match Italy-Uruguay played on 24 June 2014. The player and/or the Uruguayan FA are invited to provide their position and any documentary evidence they deem relevant until 25 June 2014, 5pm, Brasilia time.
'According to article 77 lit. a of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), the FIFA Disciplinary Committee is responsible for sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials’ attention. Furthermore, according to article 96 of the FDC, any type of proof may be produced (par. 1), in particular are admissible, reports from referees, declarations from the parties and witnesses, material evidence, audio or video recordings (par. 3).'
Senior FIFA official Michel D'Hooghe told BBC Radio 5 Live that the 'serious' case should be brought to a hearing in front of its disciplinary commission and that 'biting is not compatible with normal football practice."

you're a Liverpool supporter right?
Obviously I am but that has little relevance to the post. I have simply, and accurately, stated what the FA said in their concluding statement.

As far as this incident goes I have clearly condemned his actions (post #1054 or 1065 or something above) - I suggest you take a look.

I wonder if they are going to complete their investigation before last 16 game. I'd be pissed if he ended up playing, scoring, having an opposition player sent off and knocking Colombia out

My guess is he will get a 12 match international ban and maybe some sort of suspended sentence.

I find it strange that Poyet is lauded so much in this country, after he said Evra cried like a baby after being racially abused by Suarez. Biting people, being racist and supporting racists seems to get you pretty far here.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA, /ˈfiːfə/; English: International Federation of Association Football) is the international governing body of association football, futsal and beach soccer. Its membership comprises 209 national associations.

Just to make it clear to people who don't grasp simple things. FIFA is the umbrella organization. Yes, they have delegated powers and authority and there can be clashes sometimes between them and an affiliated association but if FIFA says a ban on a player is worldwide, its member association has basically feck all power to do otherwise, especially on a case like this.

Also, I don't know what makes people think that FA which is so clearly run by Manchester United won't uphold the ban

There's no ban, education or help that will change him.

Clearly it was not a conscious decision to bite, I don't believe he planned to dine Italian. However in the heat of the moment, when things are not going his way, he snaps and bites.

And watching the many gifs, it is true that the shoulder hit him first. And at that moment, his brain snapped and he bit. No amount of "education" and "help" will solve this, it's instinctive. Given the right conditions, he'll lose cognitive control and bite again. To me, it's definitely an illness rather than just cheating.

That said, FIFA should throw the books at him. An inability to control himself is not an excuse or defence. Given this is the third bite, I would say 1 year global ban with a suspended life time ban.

And unluckily for Suarez, the WC, with the global audience, is not the time for FIFA to show leniency. They would not want to look weak. I fully expect Suarez to be hit very very hard, perhaps harder than what his crime justifies (even factoring that's his third)

If he's thrown out of Liverpool for this latest offense, can you imagine the uproar? not over the decision, but the scousers will turn on Suarez too for his stupidity and madness. As long as he's still their player though, they'll defend him to no end.

One winner, Jonathan Braeck from Stenungssund in Sweden, bet 80 Swedish krona (£7) that Suárez would bite, and the 23-year-old substitute teacher is now set for a payout of 14,000 krona (£1,225) for his wager.
Braeck said he intends to spend some of his winnings on travelling to a Premier League game in England, but he will not be visiting Liverpool to see the man who helped fund his trip. “It will be a trip to Manchester. I’m going to try to find someone to go with me to Manchester United,” he said. “If I had [Suárez’s] home address I’d send him a thank-you card. It was very nice of him to bite and give me a trip to Manchester.”

You couldn't make this stuff up, Wonderful! Thanks from another happy red!

Suarez did it so a United fan can visit the club he loves. Surely that's a mitigating circumstance

Surely somehow, someway, Fergie is to blame for all this?

Right scousers?

Are all Uruguayans insane by the way? They certainly seem like that when it comes to football. Some of the stuff Poyet and Lugano and others have come out with are mental.

I think maybe it is because Uruguay is a relatively small nation there will be a tendency to defend anyone who shares that nationality. And to think that everyone else is attacking them.

Which is exactly what a vicious animal would do. If you step away and think about it, he shouldn't be even allowed step onto a pitch.

They will start e-petition to change their owners and CEO etc. in that case. The uproar will start when he leaves them on his own by asking for transfer. In that case he will suddenly become a vile human being.

To paint the picture of what kind of person he is, here's a video with a decent compilation of Suarez' antics

That video exludes these further incidents:

and now this of course:

Ban the fecking idiot for a long time already. He's a diving, cheating, dangerous racist cnut who doesn't deserve all the money and fame he gets for playing football. He's made a carreer out of cheating basically. This just has to end!

Yes, but when people talk about fighting tooth and nail to defend their country, it's not usually taken quite so literally.
