I don't think missing pre-season is a small thing. He'll go from mid-June to the end of October with no football and he'd probably need four-five games before he's fully up to speed
its many more. 4 months is 15 games on top of the 9 internationals.

i suppose that the only downside of this, means now liverpool are likely to keep thier best player for next season, even if he is missing the first 2 and a half months of the season

I don't see why not, really. It could have been much worse. Two months isn't alot in the grand scheme of things, especially if it's reflected in the price.
