Day 20: Brazil vs. Colombia

Lol people were saying chile and colombia were favorites. We haven't lost in WC qualifiers at home because we face these teams and they shit themselves when they see our shirt. We were winning 2-0, created best chances and controlled the game before Maicon had a turnover near our box which generated the penalty. Refereeing was horrible for both sides, this is the only forum which I saw major complaints. Colombia got so, so many soft fouls near the box. Colombians were diving at every play wishing for same fouls over and over. Sure, he should have given yellows, but to both sides. They stopped so many fast breaks with fouls. And that offside is as blatant as anything, Yepes is absurdly active in that play

Absolutely spot on this!

I agree, Zuniga was diving alot.

I started watching from the 2nd half having read a lot of comments on twitter from the UK press saying Fernandinho should have been sent off, Brazil were playing dirty. But saw nothing like that.

First half all the calls went Brazil's way. Second half, inevitable frustration set in with Columbia and they began acting out. It's what happens with every game of football that isn't handled by the ref well. Brazil got a goal from a shit call. They've been given favored calls since the tournament began. No surprise.

Neymar out of the WC with a broken back. Fractured vertebrae in his lower back. Zuniga's a proper butcher. Hope he's out of the country already or he might not make it.

If the ref had dealt out some cards to both teams earlier then this might not have happened.

The ref will not ref a big match again, nor should he. He was terrible all night.

You have to sympathise with Brazil and Neymar now - and of course hope that they don't get too much extra help next game as compensation.

This thread really is disgusting. Just read it all.. the ease in which people write "fixed".. There is a very irrational hatred of Brazil here idk why

It is weird. Not at all weird that you're from Brazil and don't see it that way. It's definitely "disgusting" because you can't see it that way.

Just read that Fernandinho fouled James 8 times yesterday. Some cynical, some not so, yet he didn't even get a booking. The tactics were clear from the off and that's why I and many other don't like Brazil.

It's crazy to call it a fix but you have clearly had a lot of fortuitous decisions given by the referee this tournament.

I really feel sorry for Neymar. Has been quite good so far. Who will take his place? Willian?
Thiago also out against Germany.

Hulk has played quite well yesterday.

Fernandinho made 3 or 4 fouls the entire game, just for you to see how ridiculous things are getting here

Zuniga on the other hand kicked Hulk above the knee similar to the Eto'o foul on Henderson which everybody was screaming for a red. No mention of that on here because it doesn´t suit the agenda. Then he kneed Neymar in the back and he is now in out of the WC. Instead all the focus is on the Cesar non-red card. Which David Luiz is covering so I can see why the ref didn´t give it. I don´t understand why Zuniga was on the pitch though.

So if you want to shout about bias, look at your own first. At least be balanced in your criticism. It was a very physical, hotly contested game. That was pretty much expected as any all-South American world cup games will be.

Oh, and I follow closely Argentinean and Spanish forums, and the only outrage I see is in English media/forums.

Just blatantly say : I don't like brazil. Thats a bit more respectufl than "hurr durr FIFA< fix!! "

The thing is that none of Fernandinho's fouls were as malicious or cynical as the colombian player's kneeing of neymar,it looked so damn intentional and look what the outcome was.

Shit game, Brazil disappointed, particularly in the second half.

Absolute travesty of a refereeing performance yesterday. As the RTE boys said, Brazil came with a gameplan and executed it. That the ref was so cowardly as to not call them on it, just allowed them free rein to go and do what they fecking well liked. And free-kicks then given for nothing! Colombia lost the head towards the end, but could you blame them? Kicked off the field for 90 minutes and expected to take it?

This is the worst World Cup 'fix' since 1978. South Korea certainly had an element of it, but at least they were fun!

Brazil should be made wear their unlucky white jerseys/blue trim for the rest of the tournament because they certainly don;t deserve to wear that famous yellow jersey. I was praying for a Colombian equaliser to get the worst team in the competition out of it. It's worse than watching Greece.

Neymar kicked out of world cup. Zuñiga kicking our fast breaks and not receiving yellow. Fix, haha.

1966 : worst fix ever

I didn't see it, but will re-watch the second half. The free-count in the first half was 13-12 Brazil. I would love to see the actual foul count, disallowing the simulation (on both sides). The second half was a fecking joke. Colombia get the ball, Brazil foul, walk away. Colombia go again, Brazil foul, walk away.

Are you basing the 1966 on one single decision, as opposed to a litany of bad decisions that if handled correctly, would have left Brazil with, maybe 8 players on the field? Final foul count was 31-23 Brazil.

I do think Brazil should have gotten one or two more yellows. As well as Colombia, two yellows at least. Zuñiga arguably red.

I miss the days where a fix was when a horrid offside call was given, or a ridiculous red was given. Now, its "omg! ref didn't give a yellow card and interrupted flow of the game, FIX!!!"

Lets remember that the game began with 3 straight Colombia fouls in the first 5 minutes. Maybe that was their strategy too, but they changed when Brazil scored early on? Ref was horrible, for both teams

We now lost our best player due due to a criminal challenge which didn't receive a yellow. Imagine if that was James Rodriguez, at least 3 threads created for the incident alone.

But I get it, we are not liked. I like it better that way..

And what happens when a game isn't called fairly? The players act out on the pitch. Neymar's injury is precisely why a ref should always keep control of a game and call a game fairly or players act out. Always. He lost control of the game because he was a shit ref. A player was then injured.

And the lack of a ref controlling a match is what leads to escalation on the pitch, this is not at all new - it happens all the time, especially in the Primera...For me, the ref is the most to blame for Neymar's injury

James was kicked eight times in the first half alone. The ref was blowing his whistle, giving frees, so the flow of the game was interrupted anyway. If he had had balls, he would've started booking players and it might have cut out that shit. It happens in any game, where a ref doesn't have control.

If you say the end justifies the means, work away but there is no way this Brazilian team would win any tournament I can remember.

Hahah.. Again, I'd love to see the Neymar scenario flipped into James Rodriguez.

Now, its not Zuñiga being an utter disgraceful footballer what caused the flying knee to the spine, it was the refs fault.

Imagine if it was Fernandinho putting little James into the hospital
its Brazil vs the world. And I like my fecking chances

lets go for numero 6, brothers

Solid logic. Can't find any holes.

No need for logic. Flying knee to the spine = not even a yellow

Ref was horrid for both sides, if he was worse for anyone, its very marginal. Colombia is a good team but today we were better, specially in first 45 minutes

I will wait for game day to post agian. See you guys

Fernandinho did not foul James 8 times. He had a total of 4 fouls according to BBC, nevermind fouls on James.

You're a great newbie. One of the best ever.

I don't think this is a great Brazillians side but your pressing and tempo is impressive and Scolari is IMO getting a great deal out of this side.

Zuniga is a proper cnut of a player. Looks like a psycho too. Should never have been allowed to finish yesterday's game.

I agree. I'm happy enough with semis, for this group of players. Immense heart and pressing shown. Chile and Colombia are great sides, and we eliminated them..

People don't realize this generation was supposed to be supported by our "big 3" Adriano (31), Ronaldinho (33), and Kaka (32), which would smooth the transition of generations.. But 2 of them are alcohol dependants who threw their careers away, and Kaka was plagued by injuries. That means a brand new generation had to "build itself" and without WC qualifiers to gel the team together in a competitive sense, making it that much tougher.

Imagine a basically prime Adriano in this side.. much better eh?

Oh, thanks Drogba for teaching Luiz that strike

Don't think anything was fixed.

But the ref was weak and failed to control the game. Both sides got away with murder. In the end, Brazil benefited more from this tactically, but I don' think that means the ref was handing out favours to them.

Would have been a better contest with a more assertive ref. He had basically decided this wasn't going to be a game where he'd end up with big decision to make, such as a second yellow deciding the game.

feckign criminal

If you want to play this game, play it.

This was a very cynical Brazlian side. The flair and tradition of Brazil were gone from this team. Their entire game plan was to take down Columbia's two playmakers.

There were 34 tackles (12 fouls -- 6 on each) on Juan Cuadrado and Rodriguez.

Brazil committed 31 fouls during the game. It took 24 Brazilian fouls for the ref to give a player a yellow. Whenever Rodriguez received the ball, Fernandinho, hacked him down.

The first yellow came an hour into a game of fouls, and it was such a blatant and stupid foul it was almost amazing, when Thiago Silva blocked the keeper's punt. Embarrassing.

Brazil is known for playing a style that is joyful and fun to watch. This game was anything but and the tone was set by the Brazilians.

If Brazil are going to play tough football, then the other sides are going to dish out the same treatment to them too. And Neymar paid the price.

Criminal my ass. You set the tone. Suck it up.

I know this is off topic, but is there a spray (like foot spray) that gets bad odor out of matresses? Last weeks my matress smells like stinky feet. I really need some help on this. No, I cannot wash them for now..

The best in this world cup. The American ref(surprisingly) has also been good.

Howard Webb should have been refereeing in this game. Which game will he referee next?
Imo the Gambian ref from the Holland-Chile match had the best performance so far.

Joke of a post. One thing is tactical fouling. Another is a blatant assault.

None of our fouls were harsh or violent. You are OK with the flying knee because you don't like our squad, just admit it.
