Not too bad, $61m is equal to about £35m. A good price for him. Hope the article really is reliable.

Do we want another Owen Hargreaves situation? I think NOT!

"Red Devils" have targeted Arturo Vidal, but have asked Juventus for a report on Vidal's knee heath and everything relating to his injury. Manchester United doctors comunicated directly with Chilean doctors to ask them directly about Vidals right knee condition. The club would be interested in paying up to $61M plus Nani, who's something around $13M.

This is the main crux of the report apparently.

Juventus say he is not for sale right now but that offer will make them consider. LVG loves the player etc..

It sounds like the operation was because he tore his meniscus (cartilage in the knee). Generally, people recover from it without much problem, so he's probably fine.

Not seen a great deal of Vidal probably around 10-12 games. What I did see I wasn't overly impressed thought he was good but top 3 midfielder in the world I just didn't see it. Am I missing something happy to take any opinions of any who have seen more of him.
mate as a box to box gifted player I'd say he's the best on the planet. Yaya beats him offensively but only when city put a holder next to him allowing him to push on. Mancini had to make tactical changes to actually allow him to be that offensive player when he was having anonymous games as well. Going backwards Yaya isnt the same player. Vidal can do both brilliantly. Doesnt need a holder just as capable with a sat nav player next to him...thats why I'm surprised with rumours Van Gaal dismissed Kroos. Other United fans wont see it this way but with Kroos the only thing I could question with him is him choosing to leave Bayern for us right now because taking off a united cap you would have to say its money driven. Yes you can rationalise a change of scenery is what he wants blah blah but leaving bayern's team, leaving pep, for this apparent lack of "respect" players band about which I guess means financial parity with similar world class players to come to United this second smells a little of Anelka esk greed over football. I'd still love him but it says something about the man for me.

I'm quite sure that the reason we didn't get Kroos is because Van Gaal didn't want him. Van Gaal seems to want energetic box to box cms at Utd and despite being technically superb, Kroos doesn't offer much in terms of defensive work. In Van Gaal's setup, he would suit Sneijder's role more tbh, but we already have Mata for that role. While it disappoints me (I've considered Kroos the world's best cm for a while now), I understand and trust Van Gaal's judgement and Vidal is world class too and probably the best box to box cm in the world. Herrera isn't too far below World Class himself. Herrera, Vidal, Mata would be a truly formidable partnership.

I cant argue with Van Gaal obviously he knows the blueprint and more importantly how far the pot will stretch. Mata would not come close for me to Kroos even in the most forward of those 3 as however little you think Kroos offers when not in possession its a bloody great percentage more than Mata. But I think the pot is limited. we need a box to box type you are right and we need a CB and cover for left and right back so I'm guessing its more that over Kroos would not fit in here. He;s the closest thing to a sat nav since scholes. he'd fit in at United as much as Van Gaal will.

This a rough translation someone on another forum did of the medical detail they have given -

"The hurt knee": Just 28 days after having surgery, Vidal played a competitive match again, which caused an inflammation in that right knee. During the World Cup, Vidal was "infiltrated" (it's when they inyect something on you in order for you to be able to play) every single day, and before each training, Chilean doctors removed excess liquid from his knee, and he was provided Traumel (anti-inflammatory) and Cidoten Rapilento (corticoid), so that he was able to move without feeling pain.

Citoden is the same substance used with Jose Rojas in the qualification round, and that made Rojas miss the game vs Venezuela in that same round due to the possibility of it being translated into a positive if he was to have a dopping test. They talk about technical stuff about the medicines used with him, and they highlight the fact that the corticoids can have a direct impact in the players celular regeneration, saying they can help that regenerative ability decrease in the future, but that's usually when the player is around 50. They quote some experts on the topic, and they end up saying that the answer to Vidals knees future should be better known in a period of 5-6 months, more or less, after a magnetic scan. They end up saying that Vidal should be in the final stage of his "inflammation period", but that period could extend to a couple weeks more.

True, but he did come back awfully quickly from that surgery. Still I think he will be fine, but we should definitely be checking since we know he was playing whilst not fit at the WC.

There is definitely something in this, seems like some odd things for the Chilean press to be making up

If it was only the meniscus no need to worry.

Ah yes, a few asking about this; yes, El Mercurio are saying Juventus are not interested in selling, but an offer of €50m+ may change that.

If it's true and the Chilean medical team were giving him injections to allow him to play then that is utterly negligent.

Every player dreams of starring at a World Cup, but to the detriment of your career?

Hopefully he hasn't re-injured it/made it worse.

The thought if Vidal and Hummels and then looking at the spine of our team makes we so happy on this beautiful day.

We were giving RVP injections last year. Its common practice, or were they giving him other types of injections?

Ya, injecting substances into joints isn't normally a good idea tbh. It might mean, his career may be shorter (basically, he probably won't be able to play until he's 40), but in the short term, the effects probably won't be so severe as to ensure extended periods of time on the doctor's table. Still, injections probably should have been avoided. The most important thing is that he didn't damage his ACL when he damaged his meniscus because that can cause massive problems. Thankfully, it doesn't sound like he did. In terms of the inflammation period, nothing really to worry about, that will be gone by the start of the season.

I can't be sure, but generally damaging your meniscus alone, shouldn't lead to extended periods of injury time. Do you know if they sewed up the meniscus or if they removed the damaged part?

I basically agree with everything you've said, but I'll still be very happy if we end up signing a top cb, Vidal and di Maria, as much as I wish Kroos was at Utd.

All the reports seem to be coming from Chile, which would make sense as we're apparently doing our business quietly this summer.
