I'm glad the Di Maria thing is likely to get resolved pretty quickly. We shouldn't be gutted that he's not coming here as he's choosing more money and apparently doesn't want to miss a CL season (a bit shortsighted on his part to be fair). About the money - meh, I really thought he'd agree on our offer of 5 pounds per week. Footballer's greed knows no bounds.

I think Vidal should pretty much be in the bag.

The di Maria rumour, however, has too much of the air of the Lucas Moura transfer surrounding it, which is why I believe he'll end up at PSG. Not too fussed though, as I wanted Reus anyway. :)
If di Maria watched the future CB pairing for PSG last night, I wouldn't be joining them. PSG will have to score bucketloads as they will concede plenty with that pair.

So to clarify, was the 'who wouldn't want to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world" comment directly in response to being asked if he'd like to playing in the Premier League? Or has a bit of artistic license been used?

According to reports it was a direct response to being asked about United.

How many players have Liverpool bought already?
How many bang average players have they bought or are pursuing is what's fascinating for me. Not one high quality player have they looked at or purchased.

Alarming for a team with top 4 and CL aspirations thus far.

The time has come that I won't stop refreshing this thread. Muppet season is so on. And Arturo as well.

They've bought good, solid Premiership players who will help them go even further. They might not have razzamatazz but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Further? They've sold a world class player and replaced him with players who should be really seen as squad players. The signings they have made seem more to try and finish anywhere between fourth and sixth, especially considering this is their highest finish in years.

They've bought players of Europa standard. They'd be fine as support, but their first team is not great without Saurez so it calls into question how much Rodgers can get out of them.

Think he'd take a leap as a manager of standing if he can keep them in the top 4 with that squad as it is now.

To be honest I'm not bothered either way so i'm enjoying the pursuit of Vidal.

If he comes:

I'm happy because we sign probably the best central midfielder in the world.

If he doesn't come:

I'm happy because I think eventually we will either get Strootman or a Strootman like player and the midfield pairing of Herrera and Strootman will be incredibly valuable to our team anyway.

It would require a high quality and creative attacking quartet though but I think we will develop that.

I want to sign Hummels as difficult as that might be and a LW (let Zaha + Januzaj develop down the right flank).

They were pretty much forced into selling Suarez and unless they are prepared to spend big the only hope they have is turning potential into good strikers like they did with Sturridge. I can't see a club like Liverpool spending so much on squad players. Perhaps their manager is trying to reinforce their success of last season which is no bad thing.

Liverpool can't spend like City, Chelsea or even United of this transfer window. The option Rodgers has is either to buy one good striker or buy several players that will strengthen their team overall. Their new strike partnership might not be as good Suarez and Sturridge but with a stronger team/squad overall, they might get close.

I was convinced that Di Maria would be more likely to move to us than Vidal would. It looks like the tables have turned though.

If Di Maria picks PSG over us I would like to think we would go back in for Reus and make them an offer he can't refuse.

Their problem is not that they can't spend, they usually sped a lot of money and now they got 75M for Suarez, so they definitely can spend. But, the problem is that the players that have enough quality to replace Suarez don't want to play for Liverpool.

Like I said above, they spend on quantity and not quality. They were extremely lucky that Suarez has developed into a top player. More players will want to play for them now that they are in the Champions League.

They don't have to. They're also not spending peanuts on these average players, either. The pound is incredibly strong against the euro and they have more than enough money to spend on a better quality of player than they have done.

They don't need to be looking at the absolute elite to be a CL/top 4 level squad, they've just spent on mediocrity thus far, unless Rodgers really is a genius who will unlock untold potential from what have always been middling players.

Didn't see it posted, so i thought i would:

The Paulinho rumours in Italy seem to all say according to English/British press.

However, Juve have been linked to a Brazilian striker also called Paulinho this week. Couldn't have been a mix-up, surely?

Paulinho is a 28 year old striker who plays for Livorno and Tuttosport linked him with Juventus last week.

Not one line in Turin sport [Juventus mainly] newspaper Tuttosport about Paulinho and big bid. And they love a rumour.

Seems like that's the origin (and misunderstanding) of the Paulinho from Spurs to Juventus

I think Reus would jump at the chance of joining us now after his public outcry.

UEFA has ruled that this sponsorship deal has failed their FFP test, so that will at least not count in full for balancing their budget. It could very well be the case that Di Maria will choose PSG over us, also because they play in the CL, but ironically the possible purchase of him could be so costly it could trow them out of the CL.
I'd like to think Di Maria is a clever man and would be aware that him joining them would end up costing them CL, however if we could get Lucas Moura out of this for £30m I'd take it in a heartbeat as we'd have a very nice, pacy young and talented squad for the new season.

They've spent on Premiership proven players. The strength of the pound doesn't come into it as they've been buying from an English team that did very well last season.

I agree. I also think Rodgers has been fortunate: Suarez had a couple of seasons to settle down in England and each season he was getting stronger and better. Sturridge settled in well and Sterling matured at the same time. They've also bought two England players in Lallana and Lambert. Not the best but decent.

Lucas Moura isn't really all that.
