What an awful half. Pretty much all of them just pass it backwards after taking about 5 touches on the ball. Evans, Hernandez and welbeck have probably been the worst players on the pitch, funnily enough.

Powell has a good shot but not much else. Keane and James I think are just a bit shit, nothing about them sticks out.

Hope van Gaal gives them a bollocking because they're so complacent.

The body language has not looked good from the start. Hernandez, Welbeck and Kagawa (before leaving field) don't even look like they want to be out there playing.

This is honestly the worst half i've ever seen from a Man Utd side. Ever. And I've been watching almost every game for 10 years.

This is embarrassing for a club who've just spent 120 million in the transfer market. Our second team should be strong enough here but it's just abysmal. Heads need to roll. These demotivated idiots are pulling the whole club down
Have a word with yourself, half of these players haven't played a first team game this season.

A summary of our play is moving forward until slightly passed the halfway line, turning around, and then passing straight back to De Gea.

    This is an absolute joke.

These players got a chance to impress the manager but omg they just can't make 2 successful passes in a row. Very dissapointed...

Can't quite believe what I'm seeing here. If I didn't know any better and somebody photoshoped white stripes on all the red shirts, I would believe in an instant that I was watching Sunderland having an absolute shocker of a match. At no point did it feel like it was Manchester United playing.

You looked so much better in preseason compared to last year and I believe that Van Gaal is one of the greatest managers in the world, but this team is baffling. It's as if they are completely shell shocked as soon as something's on the line, be it points or advancing to the next round of a cup. At this very moment, the squad is not imbalances, it looks dead inside.

Shameful from welbeck/powell on how casual they have been. I mean they do not deserve to wear our shirt. People support welbeck because he is from manchester but he quite clearly is nowhere good enough for united. Rather than working hard he seems to be so casual with his touches.
Powell for me thinks he is above this level and just doesnt seem to give a feck.
Only kagawa before he went off, vermil or anderson have been average. Rest all have been shocking.

With defenders who cannot pass we are playing 532 rather than 352. Change the 532 to 433. Why the hell we need 3 central defenders against MK Dons.

If Hernandez is still on the pitch at the start of the second half, I'm going to scoff and wonder aloud if Van Gaal is fecking serious.

    Magical Manchester United.
Formation is not working, say it again. No one is in the box, our wing-backs don't offer anything at all in an attacking sense.

Hernandez is simply pathetic, he can't even control a football anymore... show him the door as soon as possible and as long as he still worth a few quid. Embarassing performance overall.

The formation is clearly not working. We've looked shaky at the back in every game and we're created I think 2 or 3 chances in 2 and a half games? Its been shocking.

Can't see us getting back into this unless Powell smashes one in from 25 yards. We look slow and indifferent. The Evans mistake was horrendous, how can we lose so often and still be so complacent?

The most embarrassing thing about our collapse is the lack of leaders.

When Chelsea had Avram the players picked it up and pretty much ran things themselves. Our lot look like lost little boys.

The team has no leaders. Everyone out there is looking for someone else to bail them out. They are treating the ball like it's on fire.

Okay, it's not the formation for the love of god.

    It's players playing shite football.

As some have said a few of them have clearly been told their days are numbered. Others are just shite.

It'll be alright. LVG isn't Moyes. He'll actually get rid of the shite.

My thoughts are that Powell is our best player today?
Apart from that one shot off the outside of his boot, all he has done is give the ball away. Welbeck easily our best player so far, and that's not saying very fecking much.

More of the same. Seniors, juniors, inbetweeners - doesn't matter. If we're going to play football at the pace of senior citizens dipping their toes into the north pole waters for the rest of the year we won't get higher than 8th.

Also I've noticed something inherently wrong with our formation (or how we play it). Whenever there is a second ball we never get it because the 3 becomes a 5 and everyone is back. I'm not sure that is a good thing. In a 4-4-2 or otherwise there are more players in midfield to get loose balls. ATM we don't get any that or defenders head out because the fullbacks are beside them and we only have 1 or 2 Cms contesting with 4 of their players...

    Anyone else see this?

This is becoming pretty embarrassing. They're in the 3rd tier of English football!.

I'm too scared to look at my phone right now.

There just don't seem to be enough players in the opposition half with 3-5-2. We're being crowded out..by MK Dons

You know hard times are ahead when Anderson was the stand out player of the half.

It's the mickey mouse cup and with that lineuo I didn't expect much anyway, but would be still good to just win the first official game under van Gaal, hope we see a better performance in the second half.

We started pretty well but then we joined in on playing like a League One side. Understandable that they struggle when they haven't played together before but it's the basic ball control from first-teamers like Chicharito, Evans, Welbeck and Januzaj that worries me.

Why are some absolutely useless players playing in this game? I don't see a future for the likes of Vermiji or Anderson, why bother giving them any game time?

3-5-2 needs to go. It's just not working, we don't have a disciplined group to make it work, and we don't have the ball playing CBs to make it work. It's not making us any better defensively, and it's killing our tempo going forward.
I agree. We are scrambling way too much at the back and it does seem to be affecting out forward play. If we get caught out going forward in the middle it's an all out sprint to get back in numbers.

Maybe 3-5-2 works but we don't have the personnel ATM. But still time to sign the entire Dutch national team. That might shorten the learning curve.

It's not just the formation that is the problem. Some of these players are just poor.

Evans has been poor. Hernandez awful.

They are supposed to be the senior players as well. Anderson has pulled his usual act.

Janko has been meh. James meh as well.

Januzaj looks disinterested and dropping too deep.

    Powell has been decent.

Keane and Vermijl probably the most competent along with Welbeck.

We got down totally after their goal.

This club needs to be relegated for it to understand the seriousness of what's happening on the pitch
