I actually trust Valencia to do a decent job in the right hand side of that midfield. As long as he isn't expected to provide/create anything. He is solid enough at keeping the ball.

Glad Coleman isn't playing, really think Shaw and ADM should be looking at attacking Hibbert at every chance

Valencia to help Rafael out against Baines...Sensible move...

We push forward on the left with ADM and cover on the left...

How the hell does Valencia still start games? He's been utter dogshite for two years now. TBH that's even being generous, dogshite probably isn't as crap as Valencia has been. We'll be overrun in midfield that's for sure, just hope our attack is up for it.
Agreed about Valencia, but they look like they're setting up 4-4-2, so we might not get dicked in the midfield too bad actually :) and Hibbert's playing again, he's bloody awful!!

Man Utd Starting XI: De Gea; Rafael, McNair, Rojo, Shaw; Blind; Valencia, Di Maria; Mata; Falcao, Van Persie (c).

Valencia at least has the energy to play in midfield, and has experience for Ecuador (?) I guess.

    Coleman and Mirralas injured then?

Christ, I hope Valencia will understand how to play in midfield. I'm not overly optimistic about it though.

Think Valencia is a mistake whilst trying to still play a diamond. He just doesn't do as well infield and can't play it the same way as Herrera has becuase of his over reliance on his right. If he pushes wider where he's more comfortable then he'll leave us very exposed centrally. I get we want to play 2 strikers long term but think LVG is being overly stubborn about it at times.

Was there anything hinting at Valencia in midfield before this? It's interesting that Fifa 15 had him down there on their live squad update yesterday.

Everton Starting XI: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka (c), Stones, Baines, Barry, Besic, Pienaar, Mcgeady, Naismith, Lukaku.

No, takes a few seconds to calculate. It'll be alright.

Valencia and Rafael do offer a lot of pace and directness down the right side but Valencia's final ball and lack of form is a real worry particularly as we really might be overrun in midfield if we don't keep/use the ball intelligently. Hope the defence is up to it as well.

Neither Falcao or RvP have been scintillating as of yet (I know Falcao is adjusting to a new team and new league). If we don't start well, I think we'll get a get all cagey and nervous. Early first goal for Radamel and I think we'll cruise it though :)
    RVP scored 2 goals already.

The last time Di Maria played against Hibbert, Everton lost 5-0.

He has played there plenty with his country and Wigan

I actually think he will do a good job there today

suspension and injuries have further weakened our already thin midfield. leaving us with limited options and we will go back to start the game with a 532 setup:

    ddg
    rafael, mcnair, rojo, blackett, shaw
    blind, adm, mata
    rvp, falcao

subs: lindegaard, thorpe, fellaini, fletcher, valencia, pereira, januzaj

    plan:
to start the game in the most balanced way. we can switch to a 442 diamond by substituting shaw with fellaini or fletcher. could go even for 433 by pushing up adm into the wide left upfront and perhaps to have januzaj to replace one of falcao/rvp.

I don't mind Valencia playing in central midfield as long as he stays in that position and doesn't even attempt to move to the wing. I have always felt he could do a job in central midfield especially as a defensive midfieder. Don't be surprised to see him become a central midfielder in the future. Van Gaal turned Schweinsteiger, a winger into one of the best central midfielders.

On a sidenote Pereira is not even on the bench let alone the starting 11. Happy with that team and good to see Wilson on the bench.

    I'm excited as feck!

You do realise the lineups have already been released, right?

The 4 at the back, Barry and McGeady all played 90 minutes against Krasnodar. Lukaku played 45 minutes. I remember how worried I was when we played away-games after C.L games away - esp when those matches were far, far away - like Russia.

In addition - Mirallas, McCarthy and Coleman all missing - that should certainly ease the pressure on counter-attacks.

We could hardly ask for a better time to play Everton given our injuries

I could have sworn he was playing on the wing for Wigan. Nevertheless. Cool. A bit more relaxed now.
