What does it take to get RvP off? Thought Falcao should've stayed on.

Van Persi slowed the game a bit. Falcao will get some confidence and roar again. DDG unbelievable performance and Rafael too with our injuries coming back soon things look promising.

Valnencia did well at CM and Fellaini should never came on.

First time ive been entirely composed throughout the match (with the notable exception of the heroics by De Gea at the end of the match). Even when Everton equalized, it felt like we were always in control. A good performance from all involved with particular emphasis on Rafa, De Gea, Blind, and even Valencia who put in a shift at CM. Our best performance in the league so far, in my honest opinion.

Hes passing was not good. Seems to give of space. Looked like a cb on LB. Hes defending was a bit messy.
To be fair to Blackett everything had turned very messy by the time he came on. Even those who had performed well throughout the rest of the game had gone to shit at that stage.

    de gea immense.

mata didn't took his chance. a poor performance.

    weird subs from LVG.

    glad for falcao.

fellaini?? valencia was poor but fellaini coming on today is equivalent to us playing with 10 men.
Mata had the assist for Di Maria for the first goal. There are people more deserving of blame than him. The Fellaini substitution made sense on paper as we looked to secure our lead. Didnt end up working out, but i dont think you can question the logic behind the decision.
EDIT: Also, Valencia did quite well considering he was playing in a position entirely new to him. Cant remember him committing any notable errors.

Okay maybe unfair caling him poor but he was ustable on the LB. Rojo should have been the LB.

He's captain and had performed fairly well
    "Fairly well"?!

Are you taking the piss? VP played the worst game I think I've ever seen him play. He was genuinely bad. Made numerous control errors, fluffed simple shots and didn't even get some clear chances on target, let alone make Howard work. I actually thought he was worst on ground.

Think that is a bit unfair. He seemed more comfortable today and passed the ball well when he had it. I think there was only a period of about 10 minutes in the second half when he did his routine stand still on the ball and get closed down. He linked very well with Rafael and because of his positioning actually allowed Rafael to get forward more.

    Fellani was just dire.

As for Falcao sub, that is probably because he was visibly tiring. I would argue that we had already lost shape when Shaw got injured. Blackett does not having the attacking instinct of Shaw and thus that side of the pitch became a lot more comfortable for Everton. Though Blackett did not play bad in any way. It was Fellani that just gave Baines freedom to attack, when Baines was largely kept quite prior to that.

Naismith moving up front also gave Everton a lot more threat.

That is two games now where there have been periods of intense pressure on a new and inexperienced defense. They have handled it quite well, it has been a joy seeing our defenders dive in to block shots, something that died a few seasons.

As for our front, RVP is certainly off the pace at the moment. He is contributing, but not the goal threat of the past. Looking forward to him getting started this season.

    A relief of a win.
DDG top notch. Singlehandedly got us 3 points.

Falcao will score a lot theres no doubt. He has this great strikers positional sense. Hopefully he will relax now that he has opened his account. He was just rushing through his shots and Im pretty sure once he gets to grips with the pace of the league, the goals will flow.

Rafael was superb both attacking wise and defensively,So was Shaw apart from one brainfart moment. In this system the fullbacks have a lot of responsibility in both attack and defence and they but have coped admirably.

The two CBs were decent. No leadership but dealt with Lukaku fine. True the goal we conceded off the freekick was poor marking by our fullbacks but when the ball is put in the center only a couple of yards of the goal our CBs should be the one dealing with it.It was quite similar to the WestHam game as in we had shut our attacking shop and focused completely on defending the day.

I dont know what to make of VanPersie. Seems very lethargic but gets a goal now and then so I dont think LVG is going to drop him any time soon and not when we are playing with two strikers. If we change the system to a 4-3-3 then may be Janujaz will get a chance in his place but till then he will be in the 1st eleven.

Valencia did well defensively against Baines and co on our right side . Blind was solid apart from the last 10-15 mins when his lack of pace was exposed.

Mata wasnt great .His dribbling is nonexistent. He needs to up his game for the coming two matches, we cant be reliant only on Di Maria to create stuff, Mata has to take a lot more responsibility.

Regarding the subs, putting Fellaini on could have backfired as he was coming of a long lay off which showed in his performance And at 2-1 the game was'nt dead to get him a few minutes gametime. I thought Fletcher was not bad as a sub in the last game and could had done a job for the final few minutes.

All in all a solid victory with a lot to improve. Im not at all worried about playing the top teams. We are lethal attacking .Some of the goals we've scored so far have been world class team goals. That first goal especially. And when we have all our 1st team playing a few games we shall be unstoppable. We are seeing LVG's philosophy ball rolling.

What's the point in following football if you don't want to watch?
I'm gutted that I missed the game - had to work :(

What I meant was that this was such an important game for us to win that I'd be too nervous to watch (since every game I've watched so far we have lost) :nervous:

Anyway I'm looking forward to MoTD tonight :)

On a totally different note from everything that's already been said today, I think that Valencia did pretty well. He hasn't really played that position for us at all but I thought that he played it well. A few good tackles, interceptions and didn't give it away a lot. He needs to give up on being a winger and he could develop into being a decent back up in CM.

Pleasing thing for me is we could quite easily have taken two points from the last two matches but we got the six. The players are finally showing some bottle that seemed to be lacking of late.

The best pun intended award goes to...kunal18!

Great three points considering it was our first "big test" of the season.

Besides the obvious great performers I think Valencia was pretty good playing out of position. Go Antonio!
Mata did okay but again he had good chances he did not take. Somehow he's frozen in good scoring situations during this season.
Blackett's block was very important and a top class effort, he was far away at the moment when he realized the situation but reacted swift enough to make the block.

    Loved the LVG quote:

Yeah I thought Tony V had a good game, which didn't surprise me. His work rate, strength and defensive abilities haven't left him, which he can use those far more effectively as a cm, and his woeful crossing/lack of skill to beat a man are far less of a problem. He could be a very good squad option on the right of a midfield diamond.

Mata was alright, can certainly do better. I'm not saying that because he made the assist he was automatically not bad (it was hardly a great assist), his overall contribution was solid, he was his usual tidy self.

France - can't win anything with Swedish turnips
Good performance, DDG excellent, Falcao off the mark.
Hopefully more players will be fit after International break.
Slight concern not only in this game but we seem to tire in the second halves of matches whereas we are only playing one game per week - hope this will improve as season goes on

If I was told before the summer that goals of Di Maria and Falcao would win us the game against Everton or anyone I would not have believed it.

The obvious praise goes to Dave, Angel and Rafa again but I thought the role for Valencia did suit him more than the wing recently.

Christ - look at Fellaini at around 16-17 secs into this one.
    Ballwatching at its very best!
He completely stops tracking his man!!

Blackett does so so welll to get in the way there!
Not to mention De Gea of course, but that goes without saying...

Hope Fellaini got ripped too shreds by Van Gaal after that

Agreed - very nice gesture indeed
I saw this, nice to see some players can hold their hands up and be honest and say "yeah, that was pretty fecking good."

I'm more confident after this game. I mean yeah the last 10 minutes were nerve wrecking and we could have performed better overall, but proving we can hold it together just (just) enough for a win against a decent side is very re-assuring and when we have Rooney, Herrera and another CB back (though McNair did pretty ell to be fair) and they've all got a bit more used to each other I think we'll be seeing some more points coming our way.
