On a perfectly general note I've come to think that a key element to using oldies (I mean real oldies) is being able to plausibly field old school fullbacks as modern ones, that is side backs in a more modern, conventional formation. Of course, you may opt for three at the back - or simply opt for an old school formation - but if you want to impress both hipsters and scan voters I think this part is...well, a key of sorts.

Tinkering with the all-time Busby team again, I found - as an example of the above - that I could very plausibly use Byrne and Carey as side backs in a conventional enough back four, thus ending up with the following team:

Carey was used all over the pitch at various stages of his career - and Byrne was no stranger to playing as a winger. Hence, there's every reason to believe that their versatility combined with their defensive prowess would make them excellent fullbacks of the modern kind.

The formation as such may be described as a very offensive 4-4-2, bordering on a 4-2-4 (a formation Busby indeed favoured at times). In modern terms one may even see this formation transform into both a 4-2-3-1 (with Charlton in the hole) and a 4-3-3 (with Charlton as the most advanced midfielder), Charlton being the key, in the role as a link or an offensive nave in either variation.

Colman may be subbed off for Crerand if one is so inclined - Duncan providing enough steel and defensive presence in and by himself.

Looks interesting. Why didn't you take part mate? Would have been really interesting to read more about Busby and his lesser known players.

That would mean I wont be able to contribute a lot till tomorrow as I normally go to bed around 11(office at 7 in the morning) so would prefer the match to be delayed to tomorrow if you cant submit one today.

That would be the 4th match tomorrow, think we shouldn't play more than 2 on one day, 3 at most if it's the only way to get this going, but 4?

@Paolo Di Canio can you play our match on a different day than Tuesday?

Aye. Best to keep to a maximum of two games per day as otherwise it'll get too diluted. The rest of the Caf won't be happy if there are half a dozen matchday threads on the front page of the football forum. Let's not shoot our load too soon. 1-2 games a day keeps it ticking over nicely.

I can try and do it of theres no other takers. I currently dont have internet at home so id have to do everything on my phone.

im also in the US so im not sure if the time difference would be a problem for you guys for when I can put it up.
Since no one else has volunteered, think you might have to do it.

Since Jay is in Australia, the overlap between us would be minimal anyways. Set it up whenever you are free.

@Jayvin send to Skizzo.

I can do it as well, if it's too much trouble to do it on a phone. I've never created a thread with a poll though, but I guess it's not that difficult.

EAP, You have done a great job in terms of setting up the match threads and all. But could you add something like "The form of the player under the particular manager selected will be counted" in the opening post so that it is easier for the voters while voting? Cheers!

I'll send my write-up by tmorrow evening at max!
