Amazed at the bull crap about how we don't have any defenders so he has to play this. We have more than enough defenders but he is choosing to play this because he likes this.

Why is Van Gaal so wedded to 3-5-2. His whole career he has used variants of 4-3-3. He stumbles onto 3-5-2 in the run up to the World Cup, and now he's forcing a squad better suited to the diamond into this...

Not sure about the Di Maria upfront thing. Prefer he sits back and makes things happen.

    Magical Manchester United.
We keep playing our best striker in CM despite having Fellaini and Herrera fit and Blind without any need playing LWB. I'm seriously sick of this, this is insane, LVG is just being stubborn. He's getting himself sacked at the end of the season with this piece of shite 3-5-2, because we're not going to improve magically. It will be yet another shite game, there is no doubt about that.

We could play a diamond with the very same players!

    De Gea
    Valencia - Smalling - Jones - Rojo
    Carrick
    Mata - Blind
    Di Maria
    Rooney - Falcao

You can't? Blind is playing LWB, Di Maria is upfront, Rooney is in midfield, Mata is playing as an orthodox CM role because we've got two strikers... Is all fecked up.
As I said, some of the aforementioned players roles themselves are the concerns.

If Di Maria is playing up front, it's bordering on ridiculous.

With those players we could line up with 4-2-3-1 (3 AM players rotating) but we won't.

    De Gea

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Jones
    Rojo

    Blind
    Carrick

    Rooney
    Mata
    Di Maria

    Falcao

What id like with those players
    DDG
    Valencia-Jones-Smalling-Rojo
    Blind-Carrick
    Rooney-Mata-ADM
    Falcao
    What I expect
    DDG
    Jones-Smalling-Rojo
    Valencia-Carrick-Rooney-Blind
    Mata
    Falcao-ADM

I can live with the formation, but if he does play ADM up front and Rooney in midfield, it better damn well work.

The frustration is that, personnel wise, it's a good line up, but I worry that the formation will result in the usual paceless, unpenetrative performance.

I'd love for us to set up as follows, but I know we won't:

    Dave

    Tony V Jones Smalling Rojo

    Carrick Blind

    Mata AdM Rooney

    Falcao

    No doubt its 3-5-2
    DDG
    Jones Smalling Rojo
    Valencia Carrick Rooney Blind
    Mata
    Di Maria Falcao
Its this. Means a Striker in CM again, and a CM as a striker. Meaning both of them wont be at the best either. Rooney will keep pinging balls to Valencia in that position. This formation makes me really frustrated as it can be so much better!

He played it with Ajax as well(I think) .

I have no idea why he's got such a big problem having Valencia as rb, Fergie played him there and he was more than ok in that position.

Because we have no natural full backs and a weak, constantly changing, centre back partnership?

Why do people just ignore this? I hate the 3-5-2. But there is a logic to it.
Do you know something the rest of us don 't about the fitness of the squad's fullbacks? Fergie and even Moyes would be starting at least one of them.

And Van Gaal's the one faffing about with the CB situation

If thats 3-5-2 and Di Maria as striker again, jesus wept
That would be a travesty, surely he can't make the same mistake again and play Rooney in midfield and Di Maria as a striker at the same?

I was hoping for Di Maria in Rooneys midfield position and Rooney as the second striker.

compare to mine only mata io fellaini to start, obviously lvg is more aggressive than me! but i would still insist to start fellaini so to free up rooney, and allows carrick more freedom in play. mata is really not useful in build up play

So Di Maria upfront or in midfield?

I'd expect to be Rooney in midfield and Di Maria upfront.

It's going to be another long boring afternoon.

Blind as wingback instead of midfield, Rooney and Mata in midfield and Di Maria up front?

    If that's true then it's a comedy.
    Sadly it's probably the case.

However, everyone should keep in mind it took Holland the better part of a year to start looking good in a 352.

Well Rafael is constantly injured and now has a broken jaw, and Shaw has been on/off injured all season, so yes.

We should still win but it may not be nearly as pretty as we'd like. Hopefully Rooney is up front with Di Maria in midfield, but i've got a funny feeling it's the same again.

If we can't get the 3 points here the knives will be getting sharpened, and rightly so. We're not making best use out of the quality players we have.

I wish he'd just feck off with this 352 bollocks! He's becoming as infuriating as Moyes.

Absolute shambles of a side if it's 352, is Van Gaal actually an experienced manager? or has he had memory loss and forgotten competely what a balanced side looks like?

That Man Utd 11 has 1 central midfielder and potentially 3 No.10's.
    Unless we are shaping up to look like;

    DDG
    Valencia Jones Smalling Rojo
    Di Maria Carrick Blind
    Mata
    Rooney Falcao

we have zero chance's of putting in decent shift.

In order for man utd to function, we need two neutral midfielders to protect the defence giving freedom to Valencia and Rojo to push forward and support our attack, there is a distinct lack of movement up front, then to make all worse, we have protection for our disjointed defence that endlessly does long balls and back passes as a result.

If we line up 352, Fellaini has to replace Mata asap, because how in the hell are we meant to be balanced with rooney, mata and Di Maria ?

    3-5-2, so shocked.

    -------------------------------------DE GEA-----------------------------------------

    --------------SMALLING--------------JONES----------------ROJO---------------------

    VALENCIA------------------------------------------------------------------------BLIND

    --------------------------CARRICK------------ROONEY--------------------------------

    --------------------------------------MATA-------------------------------------------

    -----------------------FALCAO------------------DI MARIA------------------------------

Would be better if Di Maria and Rooney swapped.

Quality forward playing in midfield and world class midfielder playing as a forward. lol.

No, not because he likes it but because he wants to show he is a genius. The more it is criticised the more he will want to play it.

Di Maria up front does not work. We spent so much money on him only to use him in a position where we don't even get the best out of him. I'm predicting a narrow win.

3 five fecking 2 again. I'm so pissed off. Van Gaal's basically waiting for a good performance so he can justify using it. We've only looked good in it against Newcastle, so why he continues to use it I will never fecking know.

I won't even mind that much if he plays Di Maria in centre midfield, but I guess he'll be playing up top again, with Rooney in centre midfield.

Good to have 3 CB's against Charlie Austin as the lone striker. Austin is a fantastic player with the ability to win games on his own, can see him sign for a top 3 club in England or Spain at the end of the season.
