Liverpool played well again. Enjoyable game, lots of needle with Costa. But overall if you don't take your chances, what do you expect against a team like Chelsea? Fine margins over the two legs, ultimately came down to Can giving a stupid penalty away in the first leg.
I don't think it's fair to say that about Can. It was a really poor mistake (firstly letting Cesc past him, then fouling for the penalty) but that wasn't why we went out. We dominated the whole tie apart from the second 45 minutes last night, but we went out because we didn't take our chances.

Yep I agree with that. Also agree with the post just above, think Gerrard held you back to a certain extent in the second half.

Perhaps i was overly harsh on Can. He did play really well over the 2 legs but unfortunately in tight games football comes down to individual mistakes and he just needed to control himself better. Fair point about you not taking your chances. If Gerrard puts that one away in the first game or Henderson puts his header in last night, Can's mistake is forgotten.

Played well again last night, just don't have goalscorers in the team. If Sturridge can stay fit and find the form he's shown so far at Liverpool, they'll definitely be close to top four at the end of the season. Even their defence and Mignolet have improved recently.

Since the start of last season.

Coutinho took 142 shots, scored 7 goals and created 88 chances, playing with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling.

Eriksen took 110 shots, scored 15 goals and created 120 chances, playing with Kane, Lamela and Chadli.
Half of last season Coutinho spent playing in a midfield position rather than as a number ten.

Do you have the stats for how many chances Iniesta created in his peak years at Barcelona and how many Mata created at Chelsea?

Was going to mention Iniesta. He's the best example of how relying on stats alone when rating attacking midfielder is laughable.

Coutinho does need to work on his finishing, though.

Barrett, Hunter, Joyce and the rest of the Liverpool journalists saying we want Danny Ings.

Would definitely take him as a third choice striker assuming we could buy another Sturridge-level forward in the summer. Would be happy going into next season with Sturridge, a new signing, Ings and Origi as our striking options.

It's a tad underwhelming in some ways but this team needs a finisher. The rest of the play is coming good but the dynamism in front of goal is often invisible.

If he comes in and scores 5 or so goals before the end of the season then that's worth it.

He's joining Burnley on loan for the remainder of the season if he joins.

He's scored more goals than all of our centre forwards in the league this season. Put together. (Granted Sturridge has been injured and has only played three games.)

If Ings is brought in with another top level centre forward then this is a good piece of business. If Ings is supposed to be our top level centre forward then this is a bit shit. I think it'll be the latter and we'll have Sturridge, Origi, Ings and Lambert next season.

Jeez. Not sure how you're happy about that, I'm praying the rumours are nonsense.

Again, it depends on the context of the move. If he is the only striker we bring in, then my opinion on the move changes. We need him and another and to offload Borini, Balotelli and Lambert.

In other Liverpool related news, Ojo is off to Wigan on loan according to Sky. Sturridge definitely will be in the match day squad this weekend as well.

I think Lambert will be gone.

Ings

I just went on his wiki to see how he got on in previous seasons. You know a striker is prolific when there's a detailed account of every goal he has ever scored on his wiki page.

Why do they need him though? There is Leo Sterling, Coutinho who pisses on Iniesta and Sturridge who is the best forward game has ever seen. I think it will be unfair on all other teams if they get Ings as well.

Who do you suggest though? There aren't many strikers around on Sturridge's level when fit, and even if we find one who's available, it's questionable that he'll want to join us.

Someone like Lacazette. Granted, he's not on Sturridge's level, but he's quickly becoming a top class centre forward.

I think he'll want his next move to be a step up rather than a sideways one.

So City or Chelsea in this country then. Maybe Arsenal at a push.
City don't need a striker, Chelsea might replace Drogba with him and possibly Arsenal. Can't see United in for a striker so yeah, just Arsenal and Chelsea really.

That would be superb, I think he'd be a perfect fit at Liverpool. Other ones that directly come to mind are Simone Zaza, Paco Alcacer or Mauro Icardi. I'd be delighted with one of those three.

How good is Ings? Looks to have a pretty good record overall and seems like a very good finisher if highlights are anything to go by. Liverpool could do a lot worse than sign him on a free I reckon.

What a fantastic result. Solid first half performance, but that second half performance was lovely to watch. Sakho, Sterling, Henderson, Lucas, Mignolet and Skrtel all played really well. Sturridge and Ibe both looked bright when they came on. Lallana and Can had average first halves, but both looked good in the second half. Markovic and Moreno were both decent too, but weren't great in the final third.

And then there's Coutinho. What a player. Two fantastic assists, but even excluding those, he was bloody brilliant. He's a joy to watch.

Three clean sheets in a row in the league.

Loving Suarez making Rodgers tactics look passable. And Suarez making Sterling look world class, and Suarez latching on to Coutinhos passes. And of course Suarez making Sturridge look better than he would be without SAS.

If Suarez left we would be totally fecked. Right?
