Some people misunderstood my post.

We must buy the next Messi, Suarez, Neymar and so on.

NOT a 16 year old who we hope that in 5 years he may become a Messi.

We have to pay top money. But we can do that because we are the richest club in the world.

Now, I'm really confused.
What confuses you?

We must buy top players, for top money, 50 million plus. We can not buy Messi himself, of Suarez. But we have to find players as good as those.

Yes, we must follow City, Real, Barca and the like and spend A TON of money.

That's the only way to compete with those guys.

We have not been doing that. That's why we only have 2 Champ. League wins in 30 years.

Guys, we are not going to play like Barca or Real without spending as much as Barca or Real is spending.

It is as simple as that.

We are the richest club in the world. Why don't we demand to spend more than everyone else?

Everybody is going to be looking for the next Messi though. It's probably best to look for the next Messi's understudy. But then what if the likes of City are after him? The only way to be sure is to pre-sign every male foetus so that we dominate the footballing world.

We simply have to pay more than City and Real and get him.

It is really simple.

We have lost so many top players during the past 5 years because we tried to get them for as little money as possible.

Barcelona signed Messi when he was 13/14.

If it was simple to buy the best players in the world I'm sure we would.

We lost Hazard for a few million.

We lost Pogba for a few million.

We lost ....

Well you know, it is a long list.

If we want to compete with City, we have to spend MORE that City.

And we should forget our stupid "philosophy" that money do not buy success.

Regarding the number of CL titles. Fair enough we should have won more under Ferguson but you have to remeber, the majority of Ferguson's teams were built for the league not really for the continent. Also it wasn't long ago we were outperforming Real Madrid and Man City in Europe. We reached 3 finals in four years (should have been 4/4) Maybe if Ferguson strengthened our midfield, we could have taken Barcelona out in the 2009 final.

So we should wait for an established star then buy them?

You talk about it like it's an auction.

OK. Messi is just an example.

They did buy Suarez and Neymar.

I mentioned Messi because he is the best player in the world with Ronaldo. We have to aim to get the best players. At age 22-25. And yes, they cost a lot!

We spent a lot more than City last summer...Angel Di Maria is one of the best players in the world before he came to us.

A player of Messi's quality might come around every 50 years or so. Maradonna is the only player that u can compare to him and he is arguably the best of all time and Messi is a threat to that title.

The closest player to Messi's talent right now is probably Neymar and he cost Barca in excess of over 100 million and turned down Real Madrid in the process.

Easier said than done.

That's what I said in my OP.

Di Maria is a start. But he is not enough.

We have to spend big. For a couple of years, at least. We are too far behind Real and Barca in means of talent. We have to pay a lot to get there. There is no other way.

This just keeps getting better and better. You're a genius @nick2004 - call up Glazers with your ideas and I'm sure they'll get you a job.

That's my point.

We should have paid 120 million for Neymar.

There is no other way to compete with those guys.

For one I agree with you.I always suggest we shouldn't buy too many players but we should aim for the best for most first team player we buy.

Di Maria though is a good start, imo he was Madrids best player last season and he has lots of talent.

Guys, it is not reasonable to have Barca buying Neymar for 100 million and we buy Herrera for 30 million... and somehow we expect that Herrera will play as well as Neymar. He may do once in a while, but not day in and day out.

If you want a front line as good as Barca's then we have to spend 100 for "anti-Naymar", 100 for "anti-Suarez" and 200 for "anti-Messi".

Yes, it's a lot of money. But that's the only way to do it. That's what Real Madrid did.

If there is some other way, please tell me what it is. Because I don't see any other way.

Why don't we just score more than the opposition on a regular basis, preferably every game?

That is just not sustainable, the club would have to take out huge loans for that and have to pay massive interest on those loans on top of already existing loans. Also u must have a balance and have midfielders and defenders. U cant just buy all the best attacking players and expect to win straight away.

This isn't Fifa and it's not as simple as just buying the best players in the world.

Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world and are making record revenue every year and are only getting bigger. Man United are already in a bit of a financial mess with the loan the Glazers had to take out to buy the club so the club cant be forking out 100-200 million every year on players.

Just because Real and barca are doing it doesn't mean Man United can.

Become a scout!

Scout South America, find us the next Messi, Neymar, Aguero etc:

Then bring them to United, job done!

Perhaps you are not well informed. We are almost on par with Real and above Barca.

Well that is not taking into account the loss of CL football, that is from the previous years revenue. If United dont get Cl football this season they will fall even further behind.

Also did u not hear what i said about the loan the Glazers took out? Dont u think if United were in Madrid's position they would be doing it as well?

To iterate it again:

Barca's front line of Messi, Suarez, Naymar costs well over 300 million.

And they did buy all three of them. (Yes I know that they bought Messi very young but that is not the point.)

If we want our team to play as well, we should demand to spend 300+ million.

There is no other way.

Or perhaps there is also the Arsenal way: fight every year for 4th place and be happy with that.
