This is a carbon copy of the game in which Wilson scored 4 ,City had all the ball and we killed them on the break

I'm not surprised. We have two defensive midfielders in Grimshaw and Reece with Rothwell the only one capable of playmaking in some form.
Yes. Replace James and Grimshaw with Pearson and Pereira and we'd be a lot better in the middle of the park.

The City left back looks like a player. Defensively it's difficult to tell, but he's very rounded and positive on the ball.

just what i was thinking during the game.....but to be fair in that game we changed the system to the back 3 at HT and we dominated the second half....dont think there is a possibility of that this time as we are playing without midfield.

That was clearly intentional by Joyce. Not a joy to watch but Wilson's chances proved that it's working.
Yeah I hate that. What's more important is to get the young players some time on the ball so they can actually play. Especially when our best prospects are Januzaj and Wilson. Having them defend all match is a waste for them. Then again, I care more about letting the players express themselves than winning a game at that level.

The more I see Wilson's finish the better it gets.

I don't get the need to try and predict the trajectory of youth team players on here.
Even if you watch every game played, your ability to judge is reduced if not watching live, and even more so if you don't see them train.
With all of these criteria met, I bet even Joyce wouldn't say he knows for sure.
Players develop differently.

Thorpe should leave and get his career started elsewhere, always seems pretty solid, and clearly not going to make it here after being passed over for McNair in his spot.

This is U21s not U12s.They need to get used with every kind of tactics to get the results, how to mark their man properly, track back, quick counter,etc...I don't like Joyce's style but he knows what he's doing.

I mean, can't you work on that during practice like the first team does? I don't think that style is necessary at this level. The majority of the first team learns how LVG wants them to defend during training.

Its difficult. On one hand you could argue developing a players natural talent is more important than their tactical discipline. On the other there is a sound case of having competitive football at this age is more essential (Madrid and Barca B cited as a good example).

A carbon copy of that 4-1 win really, except for City didn't even create many chances of note.

That's the difference in individual quality on display.
