Anyone else think we should be doing this more often? It looked very promising the both times it happened this season, and with Rooney constantly dropping deep anyway that position could suit him.

How about Herrera/Mata as the #10, Hernandez as #9 and Rooney sat on the bench?

Rooney is shite and fecking undroppeable too. There's no way i'd put him ahead any of Hernandez, Januzaj, Herrera.

Drop him, as a 10 he'll not only don't score but will feck up our play too.

I think the idea of Rooney as a #10 is even more terrifying. Rooney should be dropped.

What did Rooney do at 10?

Like that drunkard waffling lunatic Paul Merson said, Rooney is better facing goal. He only suits being the #9 in a more direct system, where he will latch on to counter attacks and early balls in. If he has to wait for the ball as a lone front man, he will be largely ineffective.

I'd rather Mata or Herrera behind Hernandez, but Rooney won't be benched this side of Christmas.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to drop Rooney too but he's unfortunately undroppable. If we bring in a top striker to replace Chicharito in this proposed lineup it could work quite well.

Feck off with these daft ideas about changing Rooney's position, he himself isn't cutting it.. there is no tactical issues involved. Why are people so blind at times, I wouldn't even trust him to give my nan a good time in his current state.

Hernandez as a striker, Mata as a #10.

Rooney is a millstone around the team's neck at the moment.

Back to 2011? I'm in favour of it to be honest, if we don't get any other attacker that is

Jesus, are we really going to try to find another position for Rooney every time he fails at the latest one? He was a 10 when his poor form started and Sir Alex decided he was done.

I thought Rooney played ok today.

Hernandez missed our best chance. Hes done nothing to deserve a start.

We should start with this as it is best balanced and we have nobody else really making that #10 position his own. Hernandez gives us the pace and movement up front that we need as well.

I'd rather try out Pereira as #10 than play Rooney there. I'd also rather play Januzaj or Mata there.

Rooney spends as much time dropping off as he does at #9 anyway. No point in him being the lone striker.

Mata and/or Herrera would compliment Chicha much better than Wayne imo. Rooney needs to be benched for a game or two.

And Memphis missed a great chance last week against Villa. Hernandez should have done better with that chance, but it happened so quickly and he has not played much for a while now. Let's not rush to judge him.

If we drop Rooney to #10 he would spend the whole game in the fecking penalty box.

Must get a new striker this before the market closes. Chicharito has shown he's still a decent option, but Rooney and Chicharito as the only strikers isn't cutting it.

If we try out another striker, Rooney should be benched and not unnecessarily played as a #10. Our current 3 behind the striker looks very promising.

Teams won't sit as deep as Newcastle did after Hernandez came on, the absolute state of the first touches of this pair if they play together is reason enough to not even consider it.

What about Rooney's games says that he should be starting as a number 10? Januzaj is playing better than, along with most other players.

If Rooney doesn't sit on the bench then this has to happen.

Play Rooney at 9. No! Play Rooney at 10. Rooney could be useful at midfield. Rooney sucks in midfield, he should be back at 9 where belongs. No, Rooney should play at 10.

How about, Rooney on the bench? It's clear he's past it, except for the odd match where he decides to raise his game, and then people on here going "See? See? I told you he would come good and that he's an important factor in our team! etc. etc." before going back to mediocrity for another 10 games.
