This is hilarious. However, United and Madrid are both too big to not force this issue through. There's no way Madrid are not going to get their man on the account of a transfer window shutting. Dave will be there when all this settles, they've got enough friends in high places.

Did we Coentrao them?

Whether we did or not Madrid only have themselves to blame, trying to skimp out on a few million. Hopefully they'll get that transfer ban and De Gea realises what's good for him, if not let cnut rot.

What a fecking mess :) It really is hilarious. If Real fecked up and the deal does not go through then De Gea has some tough choices to make. He needs regular playing time for the Euros next year. If Real are hit with a ban until 2017 the situation gets even more complicated.

Hilarious stuff, for us not for de Gea, United or Real but oh so funny. The blame game in the media is fun too. Honestly though if any club in Spain can weasel in a deal it would be Madrid so i'm pretty sure they'll get it done some time today.

Well they never came in with that offer so its not up to us. And we couldnt risk starting the season with him incase he left, it made sense to start with Romero.
Because we were publicly stating anything but a world record fee for a keeper or one of their big name players and we wouldn't do a deal. It was ridiculous. We could easily have had this sorted long before the competitive football started but we've postured aimlessly and ended up with a keeper who doesn't want to be here, who we just have to hope manages to sort his head sufficiently to give us most of a season before we lose him for nothing.

With regards to the rest, I agree picking Romero has been right for now. I was referring to the idea that we may continue to select Romero for the rest of the season, unless De Gea signs a new contract with us.

This season and the transfers have been absolutely ridiculous! Was quite happy to see him leave and get this sorted and now it seems it is just going to drag for another season with media having enough to write about LVG-DDG relationship going sour. Navas would have been a welcome addition to our squad.

Now let's just hope DDG get this last season form for us and has a blinder of a season again and we can start concentrating on getting our targets sorted and close this one way or the other in January.

What does FIFA do in this matter? Is LFP legally bound to follow FIFA's suggestions.
That is if FIFA says the deal was in time, does LFP allow it because FIFA said so, regardless of when they received the documents?

So I've just skimmed through 900 or so posts in this thread and cannot see anyone mentioning that this needs to be sorted before 6PM tonight otherwise PL will not accept the signing of Navas on our part.

Considering all the red tape bureocracy at all these governing bodies who are supposed to review and decide on this transfer I am willing to bet that there won't even be a meeting regarding this before that time has well and truly passed.

We'll have him cup tied by then. They'll have Navas cup tied as well. IMO there's 0 chance of it going thru in January. Its now or next summer.
Is that really a big deal? Real have played a different keeper in the CL in the past as well.

De Gea and Madrid :lol::lol::lol:

Feel sorry for Navas, but then he should have seen it coming as well.
I won't feel sorry for anyone if this doesn't go through. While I don't want players kept against their will and feel they should be allowed to move particularly when they want a move so bad, all De Gea has to do was to sign a contract of 3 years at least sometime last year. It would have strengthened our position too and Madrid won't have fecked around till so late. For his move, whether purposely or not, he put United in a very bad position for negotiation.
As far as Navas is concerned, he preferred staying there anyway and I think if he is still there at end of all this, he will go about his job professionally.

Saw a tweet saying that De Gea camp says De Gea was offered a new deal but LVG pulled it because he preferred Navas? Think that's bollocks personally. Don't see how LVG could of planned this a year ago!

Anyway, blame game already going on. Real Madrid blame us for sending documents to late, then we says we've got proof our end of things were done OK, then they say we sent it in wrong format and then say it was password protected. Sounds like someone at Madrid fecked up, as it's there responsibility of getting it to the Spanish FA, and they are trying to pass the blame.

He wants o be the spanish #1. We can help him by playing regularly…. But at a cost.
He signs a new contract ala ronaldo and then leaves in the summer.
Even offer him a release clause. It was the reasonable course of action for everyone about 9 months ago, but better late than never.

Feck Madrid, and if as the Guardian reports De Gea is 'distraught' at the thought of having to play for Manchester United and the 80,000 fans who cheered him every step of the way, even when the media, not just here either, including the Spanish papers, were trying to paint him as some Taibi reincarnation, feck him too.

First bid for him at all is the last day of the transfer window. Maybe De Gea should think on that for a while.

He really does come across as a bit of a vagina. Just an observation.

He's probably distraught because we are not gonna play him. LvG will have the perfect excuse to not play him now with his move falling through at the last minute. Hopefully, he is able to sort his differences with Valdes as Romero gives me the jitters.

Perhaps not too bad for them, but how are we going to manage? I can't see us accept a reduced deal in January, and Real can just wait another 6 months and save more money.

Dig up stupid!
Didn't expect to wake up to this, absolutely hilarious!

Hope it all falls through personally, they've tried to squeeze the price right to the final day so it's their own fault

Navas doesn't matter for me as we've had cillesen lined up for months

Having said all that I expect Madrid will be granted permission anyway

Agree ..United handled this poorly.
How? We told them we won't sell for less than x amount, they failed to meet those demands at any point during the summer. When a deal looked like it might happen on the last day then funny enough it goes tits up. Their PR machine goes into overdrive blaming us for this that and the other, we simply say we did everything on our part to make the deal happen. Yes United have an unhappy player but guess what his dream move didn't happen because Madrid didn't pull their finger out.

If I remember well, this sort of crap happened also with the Conceicao deal during Moyes times. Now we're both in a mess. Real will have to live with a keeper whom they tried to force out and we have to do the same with a keeper who would have loved to leave United.

People keep saying this but I don't get it.
1) United have tried to get DDG to sign a new contract for over a year now (and a lucrative one at that) but he is not willing to sign.
2) Madrid offered shit money for him so United thought it would be best to keep him for a year and let him go on a free next year.
3) As soon as Madrid offered a decent amount, United were willing to let go of DDG but the deal could not go through.

The only thing that could have been avoided was LVG not playing DDG even though LVG put up a decent argument for it.

Honestly this is a mess, but not sure what we can do. We can't make DDG sign a new contract. We can't make Madrid table a bid. We were clear we wanted good money if he was to leave. When that offer finally came in we were willing to do the deal.

Wish this was sorted but oh well.
