From Spain: Barcelona are aware of Man Utd’s genuine Neymar interest

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is aware that Manchester United are genuinely interested in signing Neymar, reports Don Balon.

The Spanish publication claims that United want to build their team around a superstar player, similar to when Cristiano Ronaldo was still on the books at Old Trafford, and have targeted the Brazil international as the man to turn their domestic and European fortunes around.

Don Balon reports that Neymar, Ronaldo or Gareth Bale will join the Red Devils next summer at any cost, but due to his age and price of €190 million (£137.5m), the Barca star will be the most likely to make the switch to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has certainly taken La Liga by storm this term at the Camp Nou.

Nothing we don't know actually. It's clear that Barca is Neymar's first choice. It all depends on how the contract negotiations go.

I doubt Barca will let their successor to Messi leave. I'm sure they'll do whatever it takes to ensure Neymar stays

I am confident we will get him. Nowadays we really get them if we want them, no doubt this will be priority no1 for Ed. Make us proud Woody

Like our priority was Ronaldo, Muller or Bale... and we got nothing instead ?

For example...?

If we do spend crazy money, hope it's on him and not the other 2 mentioned. He'll be the best player in the world once Messi decides he's had enough.

We'd have to absolutely annihilate the current transfer record to even get Barca to consider selling him. Even then, I think Barca would only sell if we added a player like Martial to the deal which would been counter productive.

Man next summer is going to be another one of those.... ahhhh this summer it was Bale and Muller, we got told to feck off. Now we're doing it again.
I reckon we'll probably end up with Ronaldo after getting fleeced by Madrid.

Maybe Herrera or Mata, we won't sell Martial

I think I will wait for a better source before I start believing this.

TBF our interest in him has been known since the summer, what hasn't changed is that Barca do not want to sell, and I do not see that part changing one bit.

I don't believe it will happen but I do find it intriguing that the club seems to believe it.

I wish these rumours just went away, they're starting to annoy me.

We're right to be trying that's for sure.

The wage bill is currently an eye watering 73% of their income.

Now consider that Messi and Neymar's contracts are both due for renewal.

Add to that the fact both Messi and Neymar want their tax feck ups rectified.

It really wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that Barca are prepared to take a hit on one of them to get their accounts in order.

Do they commit another €80m+ securing his services or do they cash in and get the best part of €200m from United for him? In that respect we're talking about a €250m+ commitment to him.

Or maybe it's Messi they'll take the hit or...

Or they'll all compromise.

Certainly not daft getting our toe in the door, that's for sure.

As long as we don't actually intend to pay €100m+ for him, a bit of showing off is okay, hinting that we might actually be capable of pulling it off could be useful I guess.

Just don't actually spend that sort of money on one player.

While I don't see Neymar leaving anytime soon there's no certainty that he's going to be at Barcelona for the next 7-10 years. And if ever thinks about leaving we have to make sure we've got as good a shot as anyone.

Well, Neymar is in the talks for a renewal. Any chance of a transfer is non-existent. I don't want us to spend another summer chasing unrealistic targets.

Why?

If he becomes available it will be to City or PSG. We need to keep our wage structure, they don't.

You could put any football club into this headline...

Shrewsbury town are genuinely interested in signing Neymar..

Galway United arw genuinely interested in signing neymar.

What feckin football club in the world isnt genuinely interested in getting the most exciting young player in the world.

I'm with you mate, I don't think it will happen myself, but I'm not doubting our interest is real.
Just like Hummels, Bale, Muller, Ramos etc

Woody needs to talk to neymar's dad about the commercial push of united.

Depay sold 3rd highest shirts, neymar will break records. Just offer him some of that pie.

Rather that money went to dividends, aye.

Brilliantly constructed strawman, well done! I CLEARLY suggested that we shouldn't spend money on footballers at all. No doubt that was the gist of my post.

Sport Witness said that don balon were a british based site masquerading as spanish for the tabloids to quote 'spanish sources...'

We'd be daft not to be. I'd rather we tried for these players on the off chance one comes off, since this is exactly what we were after when the whole 'value' thing was going on. "Why aren't we flexing our financial muscles?" and "Michael bloody Owen??" etc, etc.
