Constantly at the STD clinic.
He's gone regardless. Not sure what is with the 5000 hypothetical threads.
There are many possibilities. I am sure LVG would think it's harsh if he gets us to finish third with the FA cup and he still leaves. As a fan that wants LVG out, I too would look at it a bit harsh on paper.

LvG would be deemed to be not sackable and see his contract out.

He'd probably just about deserve it too.

The problem with LvG is consistency. Our optimum level is really high and our worst is absolute horse shit.

He doesn't deal well with expectations. He seems to thrive as the underdog. That is never a good thing as a Manchester United manager.

How would you feel?
Happy. I would feel happy. Let's be clear, this would require 9 wins in a row since we lost 3-0 to Tottenham. But yeah, I'd be delighted.
What would the board feel?
Happy. They would feel happy. Let's be clear, this would require 9 wins in a row since we lost 3-0 to Tottenham. But yeah, they'd be delighted. I think they would also understand that this was by no means a result of a successful transfer policy, but instead a result of De Gea not leaving, and the emergency of Lingaard, Rashford, Smalling and co.
What happens to LVG?
Well, he would rightfully point out that we finished third and won the FA Cup. Whether that was enough to save him, who knows. He has 1 year left here at a maximum. What would be the point in keeping him that extra year? I don't think it will be enough to "save him" personally. But then, it's not really about him "saving" his job in this case. If the right manager is available, a manager the club wants to lead in 5 years time, then yeah, he'll be gone. Maybe it's less about Van Gaal, and more about Giggs.

We'll all be happy and reset for the start of a new season.
They will be obviously see it as progress from previous seasons. Doesn't mean it's success, that will be determined at the end of season review.
For every manager a trophy is some sort of success. So LVG should be happy he is at least won one of the trophies available this season.

It's optimistic to think we'll manage to come 4th, as most likely it'll take us winning 4 games for starters.

But the idea of us passing both City and Arsenal? Getting silly now.

The frustrating thing is I believe that the team we are seeing now even without Shaw and Schweinsteiger would have been real contenders

We had a good first 1/3rd of the season and looks like we are on for a good final 1/3rd. If you look at where it really all went to shit in the League and CL it was during December/January when we had upwards of 15 players out.

In my opinion even under van Gaal this team with a 'normal' level of injuries would finish top 3 next season

I'd pay for a banner to be flown over the stadium of our last game 'LVG GET THE FECK OUT!'

It was poor management leaving us so scarce at both centre back and centre forward though.
Who else would have gone into a season with basically 2 strikers, and 3 centre backs?

That he stumbled across a few very talented youngsters when desperate shouldn't be used as a reason to praise him, it should be more a case of, "You had them all along and didn't bother using them?!"

Third and FA Cup win then I'd feel happy to give him the last year.

Im one of the rare ones who thinks we will have better managerial options in 12 months

LvG should go no matter what, I don't want to see his methods getting too ingrained here, but if he got 3rd I think we'd be stuck with him.

Like who? There's only Simeone and Pochettino worth thinking about if we don't get Jose.

Before the thread closes ask yourself if we can afford to miss the chance to appoint Jose

Can we ban all hypothetical threads till the Summer i.e.
  • Should we get Mou even if he doesn't do X, Y or Z.

  • Should LVG stay if he wins the FA Cup/Finishes 4th

Them. Maybe one or two will become available by then. And there's going to be a manager who will sky rocket his reputation in the next 12 months. A year ago, the idea of Pochettino being United manager would have been stupid. In 12 months there will be a new Pochettino who seems a ridiculous option currently

It might happen but there are no guarantees, Poch and Simeone both took time to build their reputation, it wasn't an overnight thing. I also don't see either of those leaving their current clubs.

He has to go. I've made my mind up on this, even if FA Cup and CL, he has let us down too many times.

He still goes. Boring football and he failed his objective of having us challenge for the title. Obviously, they've both been good, but it doesn't look good on the other managers of top teams when Spurs and Leicester are the top 2.

Obviously it would be great but I would still want to replace the manager. Whats the point in keeping LvG when he would max stay 1 more year, when we have our main option available this summer? Doesnt matter who the manager is, even fergie. If lets say Klopp (or whoever you're most ideal guy was) was available in 2012, and we all knew fergie would retire in 2013, then it would make sense to try and get Klopp or whoever in in 2012 because thats the long term option, and its not worth missing out on for just 1 last season with LvG.

He's gone whatever happens.

Perhaps if we had got out of our Champions League group, finished third in the league only to Manchester City and Chelsea, the likes of which we also gave a good spanking on our way to the FA Cup then that might have been acceptable.

3rd place is not happening, but even if we pull off a miracle, hopefully Woody spills a lot of blood after watching Leicester City win the league title.

Probably best to just listen to the news that he is sacked* / has resigned* and not write it down in that case!

This kind of approach could have led to Martinez and Rodgers being seen as the new(old) Pochettinos in 2014.

Mourinho trumps them all for me right now and Simeone is the only other one around that level but he won't be available I think. 10 years of success should trump anyone who has a decent 12 months.

Would be the perfect way for Jose to come in and take us to 1st.
