It's no coincidence that England's best tournament under Hodgson was Euro 2012, where they played negative football. Alright, they did also have a leader in defense in Terry, something they've lacked in both Brazil and France, but still, they made the quarter-finals and lost on penalties to Italy by being negative. Not great, but at least better than being knocked out after 90 minutes by Iceland.
There was no round of 16 then so technically they didn't actually go further in terms of rounds - just less teams.

Basically Hodgson won 3 from 11 in tournament football - having seen the rubbish he served up in his time at Anfield, this comes as no surprise. The man is a bluffer - because he articulates himself quite well and is English he fooled everyone for 4 years. I mean how the feck did he retain his job after the WC in Brazil - it was beyond shite.

Terrific game and terrific performance.

Feel sorry for Ramsey. Soft card and I do fear for them a little without him.

The whole team were excellent but Joe Allen was MOM for me. Pleased for James Chester too.

Well congrats Wales. This is probably the worst day in the history of our national team but we completely deserved it. The worst manager we've ever had did exactly what I thought he'd do, ruin our team. Fellaini... You always deserve to lose with him. Too drunk to say more right now.
Fellaini for Carrasco

Oh man.

He only fooled the FA in fairness. He was a unpopular choice from day one.

By the way thanks to all the Caf posters congratulating us and supporting us, probably hurts for the English ones too so much respect for you!

And yeah half our team were born in England, but why don't you take out Sterling who's Jamaican, Welbeck (who would have been in the squad) who's from Ghana, fact is these players chose to play for this team, if they didn't feel Welsh then they'd have done what Shawcross done and decide not to play international football (we asked him but he refused).

These guys are not forced to play for us, hence the heart and passion they play with, and who said only Williams would get in the English team?

If we're judging solely on talent then there's Williams, Bale, Ramsey, (possibly Allen) and the traffic cone that was brought here by a drunk Welsh fan to play in goals cos even that would do a better job than Hart in goal, that's half a team, judging on talent alone, then you factor in will, passion and mentality then you realise player like Drinkwater and Townsend should be there instead of Wilshire and Sterling.

At Euro 2012 England won their group ahead of France, drawing with them and beating Sweden and the host Ukraine, before losing on penalties to Italy. A much more solid tournament than the last two, which have been a shambles.

That was me! But I meant he was the only one who qualifies for England that would get called up. Allen, Bale and Ramsey are all Welsh from youth level. And I would take Bale and Ramsey for England if I could!

Anyway I was not criticising them. Ashley Williams's celebration was crazy. He obviously loves playing for Wales I was just hijacking the Welsh success to gratuitously make a point about the standard of English football in general. I apologise for spamming the thread too much.

yeah they played better fro sure - but my point was they didn't actually go further. A sad indictment in itself.

Holy jesus ! I just can't believe where we're at right now, un-be-lievable Jeff.

I'm sorry but the passion, togetherness and team spirit we've displayed throughout this tourney has just been exceptional. Anyone claiming otherwise for me is wide of the mark - I've seen no other team display such character consistently. That, coupled with Coleman's management thus far has allowed a pretty average collection of players to play far far better than their perceived individual worth. Really shows the difference a competent manager can make.

I don't know where to begin today. Defence was outstanding as per usual. Robson-Kanu (Despite being unemployed) looked sharp throughout. Christ, we managed to put 3 past Belgium without one-man-team Gareth showing up for the majority of the 90 ! Bloooooooody brilliant lads, overjoyed!

I'm guessing it'll be King in for Ramsey against Portugal, or perhaps Johnny ? Either way it'll be bound disrupt the dynamic a little I imagine. Both solid players, but can't quite see them offering what Ramsey has in the unreal form he's been in, we're going to really need Bale to turn up if we're in with a chance of breaking what seems to be a pretty formidable defence.

Anyway, not even thinking about Portugal at the minute - WE WON ! Wales. In the Semi's. Pinch me quick because this dream is starting to get a little ridiculous.

Waaaaaaaalesss!

I think it's superb what Wales are doing in this competition. Shame England players and management were nothing like their Welsh counterparts. Even though it was disappointing seeing some of the Welsh team cheer on England's defeat, I am happy for Welsh supporters.

 second time we've had a run in tonight then! Either way I agree with your point considering all you're hearing of the press/punters saying the youth set up is crap, the coaching is turd etc, it's clearly not, it's what your FA want their coach to do and pick the biggest names at all costs, and to be honest that must bug the hell out of you as it bugs me and I'm not even English, what on earth is Wilshire, Sterling don't in that squad, when Drinkwater and Townsend are left behind puzzles me, you seen Townsend fight for Newcastle for 5 months, and Drinkwater for Leicester all season, that's what the English team lacked, you had enough talent, you just needed a little more fight when the going got tough, that's where Drinkwater and Townsend would have proved worthy I reckon! Again sorry if you think I'm attacking you tonight!

Or even Michael Carrick, a real actual midfielder! Anyway I shall leave this thread to the Welsh. Enjoy the weekend!

That Robson-Kanu goal really was magnificent. Sold three players at once, they'll be talking about it for decades to come.

Considering that the long and hard English season is regularly used as an explanation for why England fail in tournaments, how the feck are Wales, consisting of PL players, doing so well?

I'm still too angry to rationalise what happened here. Not that I want to belittle Wales, they're an actual team, something I'm incredibly jealous of. I've been supporting my national team for several decades and it's been one long walk of shame. When we've finally got a decent group of players we still manage to embarrass ourselves. I've never seen a true national team in my lifetime and I doubt I ever will. Everyone involved should hang their heads in shame. They don't fecking deserve the support they were getting the last several years. Even 10-15 years ago I never felt this bad about our players. We will remain irrelevant in international football, as we've always been. In fact, we're simply irrelevant as a country. feck off Wilmots, feck off Belgium, feck off Flanders, just feck the feck off.

I'm Irish but tonight I feel Welsh!

Made up for you guys - considering what you've had to come thru to get here its fantastic. You have nothing to fear on Wednesday - you're organised and performing to such a high level.

We play for each other in the welsh side simple as. When Belgium took the lead, did we hide? Nope. The problem is the fa for England they are too impatient and want immediate results, the whole England system needs gutting.

According to Belgian media, Courtois and Wilmots have had some sort of physical altercation after the match. :nervous:
I really don't like Courtois, he seems to moan and whine a lot and get into arguments with everyone.

Danny's parents are from Ghana but he was born in Longsight, so he's just as English as Ashley Williams ;)

Sorry, the pedant in me couldn't help it. I actually get your point and think you're right about people like Wilshire being in the side over others that had far better seasons than him. Wales have been pretty excellent so far, especially tonight, and thoroughly deserve to be where they are now. They've made the most of what they have and you can't even argue that Bale has dragged them through on his talent alone. He's had his moments, but it's been a team effort above everything else.

Both Lukaku'so were shit, as was Denayer. Hazard seemed uninterested and lazy, De Bruyne reminds me of Gerrard.

yup. To be clear: England have issues. Their EC was a deserved failure, and Wales have been brilliant and fully deserve to be in the semis.

I think the major problem with Belgium is that Wilmots is terrible manager
Wilmots is a problem, but they also look like a bunch of arrogant individuals for me - Courtouis, Lukaku, Hazard... Maybe if Kompany was present he would've molded them together with his leadership and calmness, but without him they are mentally weak

One of my issues with him is that he's too quiet on the pitch! I wish he'd be more of a dick during games.
